I had that onboard of Nigel at Estoril on VHS back in the day, and played it really loud to record on the outgoing message on my answering machine back then. My friends loved it, but most people were very confused...
My favourite F1 driver, Nigel Mansell, went to Ferrari after the fiasco of his 1988 season with Williams. He won the first race in Brazil in 1989 and i thought he had a real chance of winning the World Championship. Unfortunately his time at Ferrari was dogged by reliability problems and bad luck. He won 1 more race in 1989 at Hungary.
There is no bad luck in braking a driveshaft in 90 Japan , no bad luck in not knowing rules for reversing in a pit stop , off course . Some of the stuff he has himself to blame .
89 was first year I watched f1. Was a Ferrari fan before I’d ever seen a race. First race I watched was Brazil and a Ferrari win. Thought to myself how clever am I choosing Ferrari as my favourite team. Well I’m still a fan today and have had my heart broken by a prancing horse many times since that first race in Brazil. But for those moments of joy when it goes right the heart break is worth it. Just waiting on our next Shumi era. Won’t be long now 🤞
@@GBURGE55 Agreed. Even as a Tifoso, I have to give the Lotus 49 (orig, in green and yellow) that honor. The Ferrari 312 of that same year 67 is a close second for me. No question the 640/641 is one great looking car though.
My dad took me to the 1985 Dutch GP. That got me hooked as a young boy, but by the late 1980s I was old enough to really understand the sport and dig deeper, but Ferrari were always my favourite with Berger being my fav driver. Still use #28 in F1 games.
IMO the reason why Ferrari wasn't able to knock McLaren off their perch (and later outraced by not only Williams, but Benetton as well) was their Italian mentality (a.k.a Ferrari being Ferrari). Some of the staff was alegedly miffed that John Barnard was working from an office in England rather than Maranello (the ultimate sin). Thus his ideas were never taken straight away and even was barred from lunch in the pit garrage. That doesn't surprise me as this is Ferrari we're talking about - L'Italia prima di tutto. No wonder their last titles were when the team was less Italian (2007 and 2008 are somewhat continuation of the Schumacher, Brawn and Todt days).
@@ClassicFormulaOne1 The best race I ever went to was the 1985 Canadian GP. Alesi tossed his gloves over the fence to me because I sang "Happy Birthday" to him. He later went on to win that day. The Ferrari 412 T2 was the most amazing F1 car I ever heard. A very close second was the Ligier JS41 with the Mugen Honda. That was freaking loud.
@@ClassicFormulaOne1 Count me as subbed. I'm diving into a bunch of your vids now. Arrows Ford. Nice!!!. I know footage is hard to find for onboards but a nice Jordan 191 vid would be killer. Gary Anderson's best work by far. Ciao.
@@chrisccc22 thank you, so many great cars to choose from! Right now I'm almost finished with my video about Lauda and Ferrari in 1977. After that I was thinking about doing a Jordan video about their 1999 car.
Mansell always had penchant for stupid mistakes . Braking driveshaft, his lollypop guy knew rules better than him , not seeing the black flag , cutting the engine off in Canada 91 . Fast offcourse . Threatening to quit anytime they rightfully penalised him was hillarious.
Great video on the greatest team. Been watching, and cheering them on since 1982. Forza Ferrari! This was probably one of the favorite non winning years for me. I probably held Berger a bit higher than he deserved, but he drove for Ferrari, so he was the greatest. Nothing really to say about Nigel. He just did Mansell things.
Thanks mate, and what a beautiful car that Ferrari 640 was 🥰 Berger had a DNF spree almost all season, unbelievable. Mansell was in top form, quite sad he missed the Jerez race due to a penalty, he probably would have won that one too because the track suited his Ferrari.
Okay, I thought there was some denigrating going on there. And Berger himself, while undoubtedly not receiving 100% equal treatment, was there or thereabouts with Senna when paired with him.
@@trappenweisseguy27 never speak bad about any Ferrari driver past, present, or future. I liked Berger, loved Nigel, and even continued to after they were no longer with the team. Was Mansell better than Berger, on his day, probably. Berger was no slouch though.

I would not mind if F1 uses these same cars every single year!
Quite possibly the best looking F1 car ever
One of the best, but not the best looking by far.

very true
The 640 as it looked early in the season before the revised air box .. IMO the prettiest F1 car of all time.
True, it was pretty handsome
Man that '89 Ferrari 640 is damn beautiful
The looks and the sound of this car... ❤
My favorite ❤️
Изумительно красивая и приятно звучащая машина! До сих пор, когда где-то говорят про ф1, показывают болид, похожий на эту Феррари!
very true, it's simply a fantastic car...and that V12 wow!!!
Your footage is very clear...a nice transfer!
I watched that 88 Monza race live.
That's cool!

I just checked it, there are no restrictions for this video, maybe a problem with your device?
Onde realmente senna perdeu em 89
Elle avait du potentiel mais pas suffisamment fiable...
Et Nigel Mansell, a laissé régulièrement son cerveau dans les stands
No DRS back then? 😅

I love Mansell but he was such a moaning old woman at times.
