Nostalgia pura!!!! Eu joguei muuuuito esse jogo no meu Mega-Drive!! Bons tempos aqueles. Vlw!!
This would have been a good game to port to the Sega CD. The storage space and scaling/rotation would have matched up well with this game, and the faster CPU wouldn't hurt either. But nobody had time, they were busy with FMVs. Still, the Genesis version is a great game on it's own merit.
Correct! Does freaking fmv shitty titles. Ohh, this is the future! If Sega, 2nd and 3th party focus on doing GAME. Mega,SegaCD will be even more awesome. I know it was a thing of the past I wish I was Sega president at the time. I'm still a Nintendo fan, but I love Sega!
I really like this game, it has a pretty unique vibe. Glad to see that the Mega Drive port is well done bar the removal of some visual effects (but some of them looked out of place to begin with).
Aside from the lack of the sprite scaling. I actually prefer the megadrive version. There were a few extra details put in. It wasn't just a lazy port IMO.
Namco did a good port to the MD. The rotation/scaling effects that the System 2 board produced couldn't make it, but there is some nice parallax added in a few areas such as 9:00. Medusa's attack pattern is a bit more interesting on the MD, rather than being just a couple straight beams. Both versions have their good points.
A game that I wish was ported to the Saturn... the Mega Drive does a decent job here considering its limitations. The arcade version has a more SNES-style sound but some of the instruments sound very similar in both ports. Obviously, the Mega Drive can't do the scaling and rotation, and the speech is lower quality, but that doesn't stop it being an enjoyable game. The Mega Drive version has a longer soundtrack as well.
True, although the rotation on the namco system 2 board is smoother than the mode 7 rotation of the snes. Not of fan of the arcade Phelios having super pixelated bosses and some very difficult sections. Also, the japanese arcade version of Phelios does have voice samples for the cutscenes, compared to this world version that's being used in this video.
Prefer megadrive version, better gamedesign, the architecture of the levels, the level of difficulty of the set and of each small phase of level sequences, real traps to avoid, less nag. The larger screen width. I don't understand why people have missed all these massive arguments, the difficulty is one of the most important in shmup's . Look at Hellfire better on megadrive version prove sometimes the portages are better than the originals,it's not all about hardware power. The first difficulty is to calculate the difficulty with lives on ports(inexistant on arcade,no coins)...and to make this difficulty coherent in order to create a challenge which could interest the player, this one has been perfectly well calculated, you cannot deny it.
I have never seen this game before and it looks freaking awesome. I just picked up the Namco Arcade 20 and it comes with the arcade version of this game. Seriously this Player One Arcade Cab by Target is incredible and at 69 bucks you can't beat it. I bought the mini cab for my office at school. All of my kids are gamers and this sweet retro arcade cab will give them the chance to see games that were way before their time. I wish I knew about Phelios for the Genesis as I would have grabbed it with a quickness.
Arcade! Colors, animations, character design of the girl (in the version M. D per minute 4.54 you notice the difference!) A measly 64-color home system couldn't do anything against the ARCADE cards that had 256 (less powerful ones), 512, up to 4096 colors of Final Fight on Cps 1. Also they had more powerful CPUs than any home version! Only with the arrival of the Saturn and the Ps1 you could do a perfect arcade comparison, loading CD apart, obviously absent in the arcade version.
With all the missing graphics and animations, lower color palette, no scalings and lower sound quality, the Genesis version is nothing but another generic shooter. Arcade all the way.
Friend, is so stupid your argument,it's like say ,killer instinct in the snes,no fmv, lower color palette,no scalings, lower sound quality, lower res,the snes version is nothing but "another generic fighting game";no is not;both games are great in the genesis and snes hardweres;don't compare arcades with consoles;that not have sense(sorry for my inglish).
It was an early port, mid-1990, the SNES didn't even exists at that point. Also: - a SNES port would have struggled using mode 7 for background with so many sprites at once. Super Aleste, a game which pushes the SNES to its limits by using the sound CPU to help the animation, did this in level 2 but the background is not as big and the sprites are either small or repetitive (SNES has limited sprites size flexibility). - and for your information, with enough hardware mastery the Mega Drive can also pull off mode 7 effects. - lastly Phelios on Mega Drive replaces the scaling/rotating backgrounds with some sweet parallax scrollings on the clouds, not as impressive but some would say that this has aged better, not as gimmicky.

The FMV craze was a mistake. lol
I really like this game, it has a pretty unique vibe. Glad to see that the Mega Drive port is well done bar the removal of some visual effects (but some of them looked out of place to begin with).

METETELO DONDE TE ARDA
wow, compared to the genesis, there was a ton of changes made. but the overall difficulty got fleshed out, and i think genesis was slightly harder!
one of my first Sega Genesis experience. I will never forget how impressed I was with its graphics, specially the clouds part.
I remember seeing this game back in the late 80's right after Sonic came out on Genesis. It was a glorious time for gaming..

I meant the sound, nothing else. :)
So play Super Aleste/Space MegaForce for SNES. Much more sprites on screen, same scalling and rotation effects of the arcade Phelios and no slowdown.

The Game Ported In Playstation And Sega Saturn,Gameboy And Gameboy Color,Wii,DS,3DS.
Stephan Dolby why Saturn though?

People, people! Let's be honest here....Artemis is the best waifu. :)
The intro background music is missing in the arcade version.
They're basically different game with same theme and same story... I don't know if that means a good port... but for sure it's a good game.
Prefer the clouds on genesis to the bland background rotation on arcade.
I have never seen this game before and it looks freaking awesome. I just picked up the Namco Arcade 20 and it comes with the arcade version of this game. Personally I really like both versions.
Arcade! Colors, animations, character design of the girl (in the version M. D per minute 4.54 you notice the difference!) Where did you get the English patch for Phelios arcade? This was never released anywhere but Japan, so Japanese is the only text available.
arcade better version overall but the cloud stage more impressive on Megadrive!
This is one of those games that would have been better on Super Nintendo.
What version of the arcade has English text?
Can you do Panorama Cotton vs Star Fox?
Arcade and Genesis versions are equally great
This game reminds me of legendary wings on the nes
Now on Arcade Archives 🥳🥳🥳
With all the missing graphics and animations, lower color palette, no scalings and lower sound quality, the Genesis version is nothing but another generic shooter. Arcade all the way.

The arcade version is harder then the mega drive version
SNES COULD HANDLE IT
Genesis version made an effort way too much.in spite of 4M bit. Music is so greet works too.
Yeh, great game on the Genesis. Really holds its own against the Arcade version.

No mode 7 would have helped snes to run this game as Genesis does without it... You know that... We all know it....
it is not the same game after all, i like th egenesis version (especialy perboleos stage) but arcade is really impressive on a different way.
I like much more the mega drive version!
Arcade wins.
E105_Alpha Unfair comparation.
Arcade all the way, the Genesis version just plain sucks!
The Game Like Parodius
Tap Sam a little bit😁😂😀
Maravilhoso
mega drive version looks better.
MALDITO DE IMPOSIBLE EL COCHINO VIDEOJUEGO
FIrst time I see a home port showing more tit than the arcade version.
Arcade killer
The arcade version is the SHIT!!! Genesis version... not so much.
Spriggangirl why not?😂
