Wow this is a really good video. I know exactly what I need to do and what it will look like every step of the way, I'll be trying to sate my craving by following this recipe soon 😋
Looks amazing! Would be great to see some recipes where you knead the dough by hand rather than use an electric mixer; just for those that don’t have access to one :)
Thank you for making this video! This is one of my favorite Vietnamese snack and I don’t get to eat it often because I can only find it in Chinatown and they are sold out quickly. Now I can just make it anytime I want and share it. Thanks again!
Love this recipe! I’ve been making this. First time not all was hallow. This morning’s batch was a total failed. But the afternoon and night batch was a success! What I did wrong was I used a small pot and the oil temp was too low. I think I’ve mastered this recipe. I was wondering if I wanted to make two batches can I just double the recipe? Thank you so much for all your recipes! I love them!

I tried to make like what you show. My took longer to rise and went fried them they all have crack, they tasted good , but only thing I thing they need is maybe a tsp of vanilla.thanks I will try again with vanilla, let you know how they , i hope the will not have any crack on one side.
Hi Aimee, love your recipes! I followed your recipe for banh mi and they turned out so successful every time. I will definitely try to make banh tieu soon. Thank you so much!

Hi Aimee - I just want to double check with you before i start . How much sugar needs to be added to the yeast mixture? Please advise and thank you so much for sharing this recipe! Raquel in LA, CA
Thank you so much for the receipt, I bought a bag of these from the local Asian market before and I’m obsessed!! But the store never had it again grrr... I will definitely try this!!!! P.s. if it is possible, would you mind using tsp/tbsp/cup instead of grams in terms of measurements. That will be a lot easier for home cooking😊. Again, thanks for sharing the receipt with us!
@@AimeesCooking I made them yesterday, and since I used all purpose flour, I had to add a little bit more water, but they come out perfect! Look forward to your new posts!

Hiii... I've tried many other recipes. My problem is that when I go to fry it.. it's still remains flat 🤧 and not hollow. I'm thinking where am I going wrong? Tried 2 different yeasts.. letting the dough rest over night.. Some doesn't rise.. tried about 3 different types of flowers? I need help lol 😫
Please clarify the amount of water required . The above recipe shows 220 ml which equals 220 gr. In the answer to one of the comments below you mentioned that the total water amount needed is 130 gr. Thank you very much
Hi Aimee, I follow the recipe but the dough is very wet, it does not wrap entirely around the whip. It sticks to my hands, everything that touches it. Wonder what I did wrong?
I’ve made this recipe 3 times now. I haven’t done it without the water but my yeast is for sure instant. Is your hand oiled when you’re demonstrating the dough consistency and when you make it into a ball? The dough always looks like it could be ready but will always stick to my hands when I touch it and try to do the stretch test. In the video, your dough looks so perfect and non sticky. I knead it past 8 min and same results
Hello I’m confused the measurements unit The abbreviation of Gram is G or Gm If your measurement in Gr- grain, It’s supper small if converting to gm. How many tsp of yeast ? Thank you
The water is part of the liquid measurement for the recipe. I would recommend to proof the instant yeast anyways (though I know it’s not needed) so that it will help rise faster and to know for sure if it’s still active.
Yum! I love eating those things...not to sweet and delicious. I wonder why no one every makes them pandan or with other flavors? Or since they look like pita bread after they are fried, stuff them with some kind of bean paste like mung bean with coconuts flakes and then sprinkle on that heavenly combo of ground peanuts, sesame seeds, salt, sugar...you know what I mean. I know the original is amazing, but surely some Vietnamese culinary genius has experimented? :)
I had the same problem too. It took a very long time to rise. Yesterday I let it rise for 3 hours, but I think it was still not double in size. I’m making it again and we’ll see. The taste is very good though.
Sweet dough takes longer to rise. Make sure the yeast is good. Not just active but strong, like majority of the percentage are alive. There should be a thick layer of foam when activated.
I just made it again and this time I activated yeast first even though it’s the instant type and not active. The yeast worked fine, but for some reason it still took about 3 hours for the dough to almost double in size. Besides that, the results were good. They were hollow and tasted very good. Thanks a lot Aimee. 😃

@@AimeesCooking Aimee, question. Does the taste depends on the type of cooking oil that you used? Can I use coconut oil? Thanks for your answer.

Thanks for sharing this recipe. In old time people in Hong Kong also made the same donuts but a bit thicker. Recent 20 years, no one made it anymore.

Thank you for the recipe, my only problem is I don't have a stand mixer. Can I ask how to mix them before hand kneading?
You can use a wooden spoon and mix it until it’s not too sticky then go in with your hands.
Here’s a secret coming from a Vietnamese myself. Put some ice cream inside the hollow donut and boom! So good.
Can I use milk instead of water for my dough? Same amount or less or more?

How much sugar did you use in the water and yeast mixture? Did you just take a spoonful from the 130gm listed?
I removed about 20 gr from the total amount, 130 gr.
