Rare 1964 Mercury Monterey Marauder Junkyard Find

- This is actually the first time I think I've ever seen a 1964 Mercury Monterey Marauder in person, let alone in a junkyard. So when this one showed up at one of my local Pick n Pull yards, I had to check it out. Although it was missing the engine and transmission among other things, there was still plenty there. The cool thing about these is that its a 4 door with a fastback look. Another thing I like about these 1964 models over the Ford Galaxie is the way Mercury integrated the underdash ac unit adding vents to the dash. This makes it look better than just the underdash unit vents alone. Hopefully some parts get saved before she ultimately meets the crusher.
I like how it says “M E R C U R Y” across the dash
Hey Benny- I LOVE how you give those old cars, a fitting tribute. I LOVE to see your videos. Thanks!
👍
Benny, that Marauder is a beautiful car. there isn't that many around anymore and too bad that one couldn't be restored. it looks like turn signals on top of the fenders and the original radio. I never knew that about the A/C Vents until you mentioned it Benny.
So very true!
Those vehicles were built like a tank.
I had a friend who bought one in the 80's but it was a two door with the breezeway back window, 390 two barrel.
Whoa Nelley, 1964 and soon to be out the door.
I'll get to your other swap meet videos, I've just been very busy on the outside and I need to budget time to watch them. LOL. There is a Buster Miles Ford in Alabama, but I don't think that's the dealer name on the back. There was a Buster Litton involved with Ford, but it was mostly aftermarket conversion/customization. I will agree that from a decoding point of view, the FOMOCO products make it easy with "one stop shopping" on the tag in one place.
We got the VIN, we win: 4 for 1964 model year, Z for St. Louis, MO (Hazelwood) assembly, 48 for Monterey Marauder four door hardtop fastback, Y for 390 V8 with two barrel and the rest is the production sequence. The St. Louis, MO plant operated from 1948 to 2006. The plant was closed as a part of the "The Way Forward" (backward) plan and was razed in 2009. That appears to be the two barrel carburetor from this vehicle sitting on the front seat. Other plants such as Metuchen, NJ (Edison Assembly, closed in 2004), Wayne, MI (still operates), or Pico Rivera, CA (Los Angeles Assembly, closed in 1980) could have also assembled these.
We got the tag, we can brag: 57A for four door Monterey Marauder fastback hardtop, G for Palomino exterior paint, 70 for Rose Beige interior trim, 10M for Tuesday December 10, 1963 production, 22 for Dallas, TX sales district, 1 for 3.00:1 rear axle ratio, non-locking, and 4 for dual range automatic transmission. Kmart Auto Centers were sold to Penske in 1995 and then and operated as Penske Auto Centers for a time before they were closed in 2002. For a time, Penske was involved with Sears Auto Centers as well, and sold products in Sears with the Penske name. I have a circa 1980 Sears engine analyzer that I found tossed out that's badged as a Penske. Actron (161 mode prefix) made those for Sears, or sometimes Peerless Instruments did as well (244 model prefix). Actron bought Peerless around 1983 and Actron is now part of Bosch and has "amnesia" with all of the former products sold by Actron. Back into the mid-2000s, you could still contact Actron for old analyzer parts, manuals and diagrams and they could easily find them and send them to you. Now, you have to hope someone has posted it online.
Whoa Nelley, Mercury Monterey and going away. Serviced at the "Big K" and not here to stay. That's it, time to quit. 390 and gotta go. Autolite soon to be out of sight. Motorcraft needs a life raft. Going to be flat and that's that. Four door and it's soon to be no more. Made in Hazelwood, and it ain't no good. "How many times do I have to say that I love you before you finally understand?" (Eric Clapton, aka "Slowhand", Forever Man, 1985), and this one is ready for the trash can. Going to get squished and many of the FOMOCO faithful, many here, perhaps Benny, but you guessed it, nah, not the Google Man are going to be pissed.
THANKS BENNY FOR GOING TO THE JUNK YARD FOR US IN THE SUN ,, I KNOW IT GETS HOT IN CA. TOO!!! GREAT SWAP MEET ,, AND MY SON MAX LIKED SEEING YOUR PUP.... WAS A GOOD CAR ONE TIME ..SAD..
This would've been a cool car to drive back in its heyday! I'd buy the driver's door just for the K-Mart sticker haha!
Never knew about the AC design on these Mercury, wonder if Lincoln did something similar. I love the pop-up air vents!
What's also noteworthy is that whoever ordered this wanted all the mechanical and AC comforts, but did not opt for electric windows/locks! Too bad there were no bucket seats, those would've been taken for restoration for sure.
No engine, no problem! This could've been something Robert Downey Jr. could've converted to electric, that would've been AWESOME!
Sweet find! The Texas heat this summer is no joke!
No kidding. It can be brutal rhis time of year in them yards
I love the fact that it once once Rollin on spokes.. 13"s I hope lol.... Snatch those adaptors bro...... There about $150-$200 a complete set. It even has a velour swirl seat cover lol.... This definitely has hit the boulevard Rollin 🎉🎉🎉🎉
thank you for taking the time to show ..have a good one.
Engine code Y is a 390 2V. Back in HS in the '80s, a teacher had an absolutely minto coral colored '64 Park Lane Marauder 2dr fastback hardtop, with a white interior and loaded. I used to stare at that car in the teacher's parking lot so often, the security guard eventually stopped telling me to leave.
Correct, 390 V8 with two barrel and the carburetor appears to be sitting on the front seat.
Clean car for as long as its been around. Don't see them too often. The galaxy seems to be more popular. Too bad it cant be saved. Thanks for showing us
I had a 1974 mercury montego.nice car.
They don’t make them anymore, so they are getting more and more rare
That was a real beauty once upon a time. A shame to see it in that shape.
thanks benny the marauder could be equipped with a 427 back then . another great find you are the you tube king of junkyard scavengers. on to the next one

I forgot to mention it in the video but I once had a 65 Monterey Marauder it was a 2 door. I also bought a 64 galaxie 500 XL 4 door. And that one was bucket seat center console car with a selectaire underdash unit.
Hell yeah, super cool as always
Too bad😢! It'd make a hell of demolition derby car though...if someone had an engine and such. As always, thanks for the videos 👍❤️
It’s always fun walking down memory lane with you in these yards. Keep plenty of water and electrolyte drinks on hand. 💪💪🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Have always liked those '64 Marauders! 👍👍
good looking car
Nice. Right on, 4143 units production. The thing is......... that rear aluminum tail light panel with the vertical ornaments ? That's a Park Lane only panel. The Monterey and Montclair didn't have the vertical stuff. Either switched, or the line guy at the factory put it on.......Monday morning.
Benny and the jets that is a cool car.
My dad had a 64 Mercury breezeway with a 352, We never got th Monterey here in Canada after 63 we got a simular Meteor here the Montcalm, Rideau500 and Rideau till 76 and was just simply Meteor after that to 81 when discontinued.
Benny and the jets that is cool about the air conditioning vents did not know that.
The last one that I saw was back in the mid 80s.
I think you're right FE 390 was the motor of that Era for them. At least on the 2dr ones
There were two styles of 1964 full sized Mercurys. The Marauders were conventional hardtops like this. The Breezeway models had the retractable rear window. I think that the Marauder was one of the sharpest vehicles that Ford built in ‘64. When I was a kid a girl in my neighborhood told that her parents bought one. It was a Monterey Marauder 4 door hardtop in silver. Unfortunately her parents had to sell it because they just couldn’t swing the payments.
Nice style
A cool car.
As rough as it looks them doors still shut well
Ah if I remember correctly this was considered an early muscle car....could be wrong don't know that much about the 60s mercs
June and already in the 100s now I’m glad I moved to ga 😂😂
I bet a lot of people mistook those vents for ash trays. Doh!
Nice, I'm surprised the rear window doesn't go down, SOME OF THESE CARS DID,.WHERE ABOUTS IS THIS CAR AT??? 👍
Pick n pull Dallas Texas. 2nd Ave location
You should do your videos early morning or late evening, so as to avoid the heat!
That’s just sad. I need to buy land so I can save these beauties
agreed
Mr. B. Here ! So sad not a fan , but that vehicle met the wrong owner ! 😪😪😪
Where is this located? I could use those fenders, as well as a couple other parts for my 64....
