Dad drove a 64 Mercury Marauder 4 door. The thing was fast. Close to 400 horsepower in a "family car". When he kicked it down on the highway it would push me way back in the seat. I was a little kid, but I knew what fast felt like.
I was 19 years old, looking for a new car. My brother sold Mercs, my buddy and I went to look at them, had visions of a 427, but he detailed a 1964 just like the one at 12:15 of this video. It was all white with red interior. Four door hard top. Boy she was pretty, had a 390, 4 barrel with an automatic. I drove it home.
I had a 64 Mercury Monterey Marauder white with the red interior 390 4 Barrel in the center of the steering wheel was the letters XXV.. Roman numerals for 25. Came to find out that the Mercury I had was Mercury's 25th anniversary model in 1964 Mercury was in business 25 years I should have never gotten rid of that car I actually had that car just as clean underneath as it was on top. If you looked close at the white headliner it had thousands of little M's made into the pattern. It was loaded with chrome , under the dash, window posts. Gauges, 4 tone stering wheel ( clear on top, red on bottom, clear glass center with chrome trim) Had Mercury man head on dashboard, racing flags on fenders, 6 tail lights bezzeled in chrome and stainless rear pannel An unbelievable gorgeous grill, chrome trimmed inside around all windows, A Huge huge trunk that went from under the rear dash by back seat all the way to the tail pan. You could actually fit 4 or 5 people in it longways side by side easily. The roof was set inside the doors and fenders not flush with the sides. It had the 64 lines that looked like a convertable top Truly a beautiful car. Ohhh why. Ohh why did I sell it.?? Now im depressed from reminiscing
What a beautiful car, at least you were lucky enough to have owned one. I had a 1962 s55 Monterey convertible that I wish I'd kept, I can relate to how you feel.
@jerryparkers6123 Marauder was a body style, not a trim package I own a 64 Marauder Parklane 2 dr, Sport package,..I've owned it since about 2007 Only option it doesn't have it Cruise Control....I've own 2 other Marauders too...both Monterey's 2drs
I was fortunate to own a '64 Park Lane Marauder Convertible with a 3904V. White over white, blue interior. Bought it in '69 kept it 'til '95. Restored in the early 80's. It had class as well as muscle when called upon. Is still one classy cruiser. The car is still owned by the the son of the man who got it from me.
My granduncle bought a '68 cougar . It was a beautiful dark purple with black and chrome interior . I was a kid and he took me out in his brand new car for ice cream . My aunt warned him it might not be a good idea . He had an odd way of driving in that he would pump the gas then let it coast then pump it again . Suffice it to say I threw up in his brand new cougar .It was the nicest car I ever threw up in , Lol

Marauder were Fancier than Montereys !

Love these somewhat forgotten cars. I have an unrestored original '59 Park Lane with a 430. Largest Mercury ever built!

The only thing I didn't like about the Mercury that we had it was bittersweet pink with pure white interior
