  • Shoutout again to ‪@DeathRowCrushing.‬ . 1972 Mercury Monterey Junkyard Find Plus 2 Old Fords Bite The Dust. This 72 Merc was another first on the channel. Sadly this one was a nice car before running into a pole or tree sometime in the last few years. Its last oil change from walmart was recently in 2018. I do believe the low mileage of under 75k being as the interior was in extremely nice shape aside from being dirty. Under the hood was a 400 that was probably still in good shape. Interestingly, this was a factory non A/C car that had a recent underdash aftermarket A/C system installed. Too bad it didn't have much of a chance to at least be a parts car as it was quickly crushed. I also got footage of a couple of 80s Ford trucks being crushed.

    Whoa Nelley, it's a Monterey and it's going away. I did this one on GMAC's channel, but here goes again.....Rich Lincoln-Mercury became Terry Hendricks Ford and is located at 904 Stryker Street, Archbold, OH 43502.
    Yes, I have a small scar on my head from changing a universal joint on a Walker 93632 1.5 ton floor jack. I was separating the halves and the handle of the prybar cracked me in the head and I was bleeding pretty bad with it running down my face, but it cleared up quickly. When I went to the dermatologist, he laughed and asked "How the heck did you do that? You got a hard head, it healed already" and just rolled his eyes. I still have that jack and still use it by the way (it was found at the curb and used several years before I had to change the universal joint....it was made in 1984).
    We got the VIN, we win: 2 for 1972 model year, Z for Hazelwood (St. Louis), MO assembly, 56 for Mercury Monterey two door custom hardtop, S for 400 V8 with two barrel, and the rest is the production sequence. We got the tag, we can brag: 65F for Monterey two door custom hardtop, 1A for Light Gray Metallic exterior paint, CBC for Medium Blue interior trim, U for C-6 automatic transmission, 2 for 2.75:1 rear end ratio, non-locking, and 34 for Detroit, MI sales district. The Hazelwood plant operated from 1948 to 2006.
    The tag on the door tells us enough to go by. Yes, the build sheet would be nice, but it's hard to read at a distance as you stated. The 351 V8 with two barrel or the 400 V8 with two barrel were the standard engines in 1972 on the Monterey. The 400 V8 with two barrel is also listed as an optional engine, as well as the 429 V8 with four barrel as well as the 460 V8 with four barrel. It weighs about 4,321 pounds. I did that black Ford truck on GMAC's channel. That's a 1983 model with a 300 CID straight six, four speed manual transmission and made in Norfolk, VA in late 1982.
    Whoa Nelley, 1972 and over for you. Hard hit and that's it. Made in Hazelwood and it ain't no good. GMAC made it flat and that's that. 4-0-0 and gotta go. That's it, time to quit. 2V (barrel) and it's over for thee. Painted Light Gray and will it be saved? No way. It got squished and the FOMOCO "Gator McKlusky/White Lighting" (although that was a Ford and a four door) faithful are going to be pissed.

      @@ClassicRideSociety I know where three are. There is a classic wrecking yard Arizona where they have several Monterrey 2 doors and Marquis 2 doors from 1971/1972. This is where I showed my 25 year son the difference between the two cars even though they where the same body. For me this stuff is magical. They just don't make cars like this anymore. Cars back then were more interesting. You had strippo models, luxury models and everything in between. You could get a full sized car with a 6 cylinder engine and three speed manual transmission which today doesn't happen at any cost. Then odd balls likes this Monterey sold in Texas with no A/C. If we knew where to find these cars, they could get a new lease on life provided you found someone who is willing to take the leap for a car such as this one.

    Most unique video you ever posted for me. It comes with a couple of coincidences. One, that Walmart oil change sticker of 10/14 is my birthday, two my dad got one of these brand new except it was a triple black four-door and a Marquis. I believe I was around 5 years old. It's the car that made me notice beauty and vehicles and turned me into a car guy. I never knew the Monterey came with the fender skirt. I thought the Monterey was a entry level mode, missing a lot of bells and whistles. Just like the Cadillac Calais was against the Cadillac coupe DeVille. I didn't know a fender skirt was even an option for it. I thought the Marquis got the covered headlamps and the fender skirt and the Monterey did not get those two things but I guess I'm wrong. This model of Mercury is closest to lincoln. The others after this body were in design, and had beautiful rides, but the interior was closer to LTD. This was always my favorite model of mercury. You find the most unique stuff. It's weird to smile and shake my head in sadness at the same time.

  • @joe6096
    @joe6096 2 роки тому +5

    I know people insist they'd rather be in a tank like this in an accident, but trust me, the driver was feelin all not too well if they were even able to feel anything after the accident. This same accident in a modern car, with airbags, crumple zones, pretentioning seatbelts, and energy absorbing steering column, and the driver most likely walks away with just a few scratches if that.

    • @joe6096
      @joe6096 2 роки тому +1

      @GGALLIN1776 Right, the point is for the car to absorb the forces, not the occupants. In an accident, you WANT the car to basically be totaled and fold like an accordion and the engine to break away. In fact, they actually engineer suspensions and subframes to disintegrate upon impact. Trust me, my uncle has been a fire/EMT medic for 40 years. Modern cars are a BILLION times safer in a crash at 60 mph today, than a 40 year old car was at 40 mph ever was.
      Those people you say didn't walk away in modern cars were either not wearing their seatbelts or the accidents were much more severe than you lead on.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp 2 роки тому +1

      @@joe6096 Yes, but it depends on the car. You're better off in a 1978 Cutlass than you might be in a "modern" small car. Again, it varies, but size does help and does matter.
