- Having never even touched one of these before I though I would attemp to replace the screen thats after its sat in my garage for over a year. Thankfully the screen replacement was successful and the device actually works.
Hope you enjoy the video, thanks for watching and please subscribe.
My 10 yr old knocked our google hub to the floor cracking the screen! I despise tossing fixable electronics into the garbage so I'm glad I came across your repair video and was able to repair it. Mine was a gen 2 , and I found the screen on AliExpress for $28, including shipping. I was able to use a heat gun to soften up the adhesive before prying out. The one thing different on the gen 2 vs gen 1 is there is a small pcb board with the mic and some other sensors that came out with my screen instead of staying glued to the main unit, apparently the adhesive used on the screen waa stronger then used on the main body . It needed to be removed from the old broken screen then reattached to the main unit with a small ribbon cable. Gen 1 as the video covers does not have this mic pcb and ribbon cable exposed like gen 2. Thanks again!
Would u be able to provide the link? And how hard was the repair
@tobe.03 Not really that hard as long as you have some type of a heat gun to loosen up the adhesive and take your time prying around the edges just as the video suggests. Ours continues to work fine after the replacement. I'm actually surprised I was able to buy a replacement screen and fairly easily repair this. Just keep in mind the gen 2 has another ribbon cable towards the top which wasn't something on gen 1 that you needed to watch out for.
@tobe.03 For some reason I can't paste the link into the comment after trying 3 times, sorry.
@@aaronchilders1150please keep up with this thread I may have a question in a month
Plz send me the buy link of this screen
Excellent! My hub screen just started acting up today, after many years, so I'll definitly look into replacing the screen.
It's not a bad one to do. Shout if you get stuck and have any questions 🙂
Thanks for this was very helpful. Just for tips on my experience,
1. do not pry to deeply, look at your new screen for reference.
2. you may use a screw driver to kinda break ur screen to pieces. much easier for me that way.
3. the connector has a white line for u to slot it. after that clip the connector and it will lock it in
Great straightforward instructions! Thank you for making this video and providing the link!
Glad it was helpful!
where did you buy the replacement display?
Ali Express was the only place I could find it at the time
send the link please, I want to order
You will have to look on Ali Express that's where I got it. The link I have no longer works.
Thanks for the video. But how did you heat it up. Can't go any further then not at all till I get the glue off
I have both a heat gun and heat plate. Either will do the iob
Do you think I can from anywhere get that new orange coloured cable? I think mine is torned...
Hey there,
So, I watched your video tutorial and replaced the screen on my Google Home Hub. The "G" logo with the gray background lights up, but after a while, the backlighting turns off and I can barely see anything on the screen.
The touchscreen still works, so I turned the brightness all the way up to 10, but it didn't make a difference. Do you think it's a screen error or something else? If you know how to fix it, please let me know.
Thanks!
Morning, people seem to be having mixed experiences with these screen replacements. It seems unless you have a genuine screen they don't always work. I managed to get my replacement one from. Ali Express
@@WeRepair🤦 I bet you Google did this on purpose
Without a doubt 🧐
it seems easy to replace the screen, but where you can find the screen replacement? its very hard and seems expensive to get the new screen.
can you use different brand for the screen replacement?
Morning,
The only place I could find the screen at a price point I was happy with was AliExpress, mine was a genuine one. People seem to be having mixed experiences with the re-manufactured ones ranging from a white screen to no touch capability at all, seems to be luck of the draw.
Can I just use a clothes steamer I have lying around to loosen the old screen off?
I would not advise doing that as the humidity would probably damage it. You could try a hairdryer but it might not give enough heat
What thickness stix tape did you use please? It looks to be about 5 or 6mm?
6mm is what I used, still holding nicely over a year on
Any chance you know how or where I can get that replacement screen cable? I’m trying to extend it down a couple of feet. I want to mount the display on a wall so it’s flat without the speaker similar to the echo show 5. Doesn’t look like google is coming out with anything intuitive anytime soon to make a competitor product.
I plan on making it look nice and such but I don’t know the specific cable or pins, if it is a custom solution, or one that is available to everyone! Any tips would be great :)
Sorry I have no idea, sounds like an interesting project though
Super interesting ! As many other owners of the Google Home Hub have already experienced... the device remains blocked on a grey screen with a white G during the boot, after an automatic software upgrade sent by Google... a problem known by Google but for which they propose no solution and no replacement if the device is older that 1 year... Do you think there is a way to fix it?
I have done this process 3 times now and never had that issue. I guess I just got lucky.
My 1st gen nest hub screen has burnt out for some reason. Please share from where you purchased it. Thanks.
Ebay was the only place I could find it.
@@WeRepair Ok..Is that 1st gen nest hub what you replaced if so then could you please share the link. I am confused which is the right one. Mine is 1st gen nest hub. Thanks.
@@gautam2Dot This is the only one I could see www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224952682239?hash=item34603986ff:g:DjwAAOSwRVZiX4SG please check its the right one for your device before purchasing.
@@WeRepair Really apprecitae it. Thanks.
Where did you get the replacement screen?
Ali Express for this one.

Hello so I have a google nest hub and I found it sitting after some years and when I try to plug it in it won’t turn on or show any single of turning on.
Could be anything at that point. I would start with power, either replace the plug or get a volt meter to test if power is being drawn and go from there
what is that tape you put on the ribbon?
That was kepton tape as it was what I had handy, but any good sticky tape will do the trick.
Will screen replacement be the same in Gen 2?
I suspect so but it's not one I have done before so don't hold me to it
The one in the video is definitely a gen 1. I figured it out the hard way, gen 2 has the mic cable coming from the top
what did you use to heat up the old screen? thanks and cheers from the Philippines!
I have a heat plate but a heat gun will do the job as well.
@@WeRepair thanks!
Como se apaga el google nest hub tirando de la cable de alimentación por hacer eso se ha malogrado mi pantalla
where did you get the screen mine is 2 please thanks it cracked me
Ali Express was the only place I could get it
Can you please provide the link to getting this screen!
Only place I could find it was Ebay.
@@WeRepair okay thanks!
Hi mate. I did this replacement but the touch screen does not work now. Have tried reconnecting everything again etc but nothing has worked so far. Any idea what went wrong? Thanks!!
Its one of two things, I have seen people use certain 3rd party screens and the touch does not register (as far as i can tell its a google firmware thing) alternativily the screen you have is duff.
@@WeRepair thank you! Will contact the seller I got it from and see what they say!
@@HHlah No Problem, hope it works out.
Hi,I tried to repair mine as the backlight isn't working. Do you know the pin?
I dont sorry
I did exactly the same as you and the screen is black still. I don't know what to do next... very disappointed with myself.
is it possible if given an hdmi output plug?
Not as far as im aware.
@@WeRepair can you test by making an hdmi plug so that it can be connected to a led tv

How much was the new screen?
£12 on ebay
I have a 2nd generation hub which needs a new screen - can you tel me where you ordered yours from and what exactly did you heat yours on? Thanks
I got mine from ebay but I have also found them on Ali Express
Is 2nd gen have the same issue?? I wanted to buy a 2nd gen if there’s no display issue. Mine the first gen just die only after 1 year.
It sucks
i noticed air bubble on the screen whay is so ?
Probably a manufacturing issues.
Man, your video miss out the most important part, is to how on earth that screen is being removed.
It had been removed previously by the looks of the state I received it in. You need to heat it to 80 degrees and leaver it out carefully. It's just stuck in.
Very informative thx
Most welcome ☺️
Easy! Thanks!
You're welcome!
I just absolutely mangled the outer plast white edge . This absolutely does not just pop out after heating
And now I just heated it so much I broke it. Awesome. Great video. Fml
A new Hub is cheaper
It is but I cant bare to put these things in the bin if I can help it.
