People always forget that Eggman is a Power Type. Just because he's a braniac doesn't mean he's not completely capable of caving in a guy's head with a single punch.
Well...........TBF he is literally the only human while everyone else is an animal and only like 4 of them have actual powers and one is a lab experiment. It's not THAT big of a feat TBH especially since everyone is basically the size of a 10 yr old.

We know Eggman is physically able in more ways than expected. In Sonic Lost World of all things, he was fully able to shatter a wall built of solid ice, with his bare hands. Dudes worked out.
Sometimes people forget that the reason why folk like Eggman and Bowser lose all the time isn't because they are incompetent, but because of the sheer capability of their rivals. This was a reminder.

Let this be a reminder that Eggman's original inspiration, as far back as his robotnik design, was Theodore Roosevelt. A man known for a family lineage of physical prowess and prodigy. A very big, very smart, very STRONG man.
Ol Teddy Roosevelt was built like a brick factory and could easily back up his softly spoken big stick. Man was a cavalryman and to my understanding a bit of an outdoorsman. It's no surprise Eggman was based off that and can easily prove it.
You guys forget his greatest feat of durability and determination. Getting shot point blank, only to be saved by his speech book and steel glasses case, then making part of a speech for 50 minutes and when they caught the guy who shot him, going up to the dude to try for a second to question him.

As someone else said, Robotnik has lost to Sonic while wearing power armor or driving mechs. Outside of that though, he's caught Ammy's hammer, tossed Sally so hard she went THROUGH a brick wall, and has beaten several mercenary groups in hand to hand, including Lupe, Whisper, and that whole wolf pack group. He does lose to Knuckles in brawls, but even then, he's no slouch, and that guy's the biggest power house the good guys have. He is Brains AND Brawn. It's just his opponent is Speed, and can casually violate physics on a whim.
Sonic has speed, strength, durability, and most importantly, charisma. He can go blow for blow with Eggman all day, but what gives him the edge is Eggman's thin skin.
@@hugoeliseu9750Not really, Senator Armstrong can casually wreck the Metal Gear he was wielding. Eggman is strong but if got jumped by the full wrath of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles he’d instantly die in the first second. His mech would at least put up a sort-of fight.

@@genyakozlov1316 I recommend watching the japanese cutscenes! They make both the stories of Lost World and Colors a lot more reasonable and in-character, plus it makes the bond between Sonic and Tails a lot more justice!
That moment in Sonic Lost World will always be iconic to me. Although the plot was in my opinion pretty barebones, there were some pretty epic moments scattered in-between. Eggman absolutely demolishing that ice wall with his bare fists is easily one of them, proving he is not only extremely smart but also very powerful when the right moment presents itself. The IDW comics showing off his strength against Starline is a similar type of epic to me, and may or may not be a great callback to that iconic Lost World scene.
What most people forget is Eggman sees his fights with Sonic as a rivalry; a test of his ability. When someone *genuinely* angers him, Eggman can absolutely obliterate them in seconds.
As Eggman himself pointed out, he could easily just carpet bomb the Resistance and call it a day. It’s not about just killing Sonic; it’s about defeating him. It’s about proving his technological and intellectual superiority. If he just blows up the entire area and wins that way, then Sonic still wins because Eggman had to resort to excessive brute force to beat him.
Eggman is so full of shit when he says that, not only has he tried carpet bombing Sonic in the past but Eggman has been throwing all the stops at the hedgehog for years. He's tried carpet bombing, dropping him from orbit, nukes, countless uncontrollable gods, several flying armadas, throwing the sun at the planet, and more. Eggman was breathing pure copium when he said he could beat Sonic whenever he wanted because he was pissed that Starline got closer to killing Sonic in one try than Eggman had in years.

An example mentioned in another comment being him able to surprise SUPER SONIC and successfully depower him. Seems to me that Eggman truly does defeat sonic, but he always comes back stronger by simply being more powerful than his ploy. Not much copium, sonic is the only one who can test him.

I kind of love how Eggman can just BODY a typical mobian effortlessly. He's all like "I know I don't have super strength or any particular martial ability, but I AM over 2 feet taller than you and you weigh as much as a small child." He even managed to catch SURGE this way in a later issue, she may have had speed and strength to rival Sonic but all he had to do was catch her off guard for a second so he could grab her by the hair and YEET her out of kicking range.
I love when the comics/games/shows go out of their way to show the differences between Eggman and the mobians. Sure they may have super powers like super speed and strength but they’re also far more shorter than Eggman and far much lighter meaning that the dude can basically rag doll them if he wanted. Doesn’t help that despite his body shape the dude is actually in pretty good shape. Dude is fast and pretty strong.
@@ericb3157 No, Mobius was the name of Sonic's planet in the Archie comics and the American Classic Sonic continuity as a whole. But those things were never canon in the main Japanese continuity as they weren't implemented with Sega of Japan's explicit permission so they were eventually retconned out of the franchise. But some people just can't seem to let go of the past...
It's funny, a lot of people attribute Eggman's constant losses to Sonic just giving physics the middle finger on a regular basis. Eggman is pulling his punches, because like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and the others, he is constantly getting better through their tussles. Years of facing down Sonic's speed have likely honed his reflexes to be only a step behind the blue blur himself. Tails constantly pushes him to create better bots and more secure OS's. Amy and Knuckles push him to be physically stronger so he can stop their assaults. and Rouge tests his security systems like no one else can. Hell, it's likely he sees their little spats as little more than training sessions for both sides. He wants them all at their peak, so that when he wins, it's not because they couldn't give it all they had. It's because they did, and it wasn't enough. Keep in mind. Sonic and co, are still practically kids. Rouge is the oldest, at 18, and Cream is the youngest, at 6. Sonic himself is 15, and Tails is 8. Fast forward 10 years, and imagine how much more powerful they could all be.
This interpretation would be inline with his Egg Records in Sonic Frontiers as he introspects that Tails and Amy would be much bigger problems if they were to ever cut themselves loose from Sonic.
He even admits this itself. He could carpet bomb them all and call it a day. But what is the point in that? Where is the satisfaction in that? It's not enough to kill Sonic, Eggman has to prove he's _better_ than sonic.

I've always been fond of the "genius who is a physical powerhouse" concept. Villains are much more of a threat when they can STILL body you after their fancy gadgets break or fail.
he's twice the size of nearly everyone that isn't human. Even then Eggman is huge. Hand to hand fighting most of them is like fighting a superpowered child. They might be able to do things you can't but most of them can't resist a 6 foot tall man suplexing a 3 foot tall person.
It's times like this that make you remember that Eggman is a genuine threat - he's a genius to the extreme and this proves it in the best way possible; it only falls flat because of his own obsession with Sonic and a mix of his Ego coming through at the worst times, letting his emotions take over his decision making. When he's not confronting Sonic, you can really see what he's capable of - he's got an inhuman level of strength without having to rely on his mechs alone. He can hold his own when the situation calls for it.
If you were sitting around tinkering constantly with and making new robots and machines, you are gonna get strong. Also having some pretty good reflexes when you recognize that something's about to go wrong, given machines dont give alot of warning.

I love how this shows just how intelligent Eggman really is He's always paying attention to the world around him, even when you think he isn't cause he *knows* how important even the smallest details are. The reason he never truly beats sonic has nothing to do with a lack of foresight, but because... in a way, he's always holding back out of respect for him. He doesn't *want* to actually defeat sonic because he finds Sonic gives him purpose... but Starline? he was just an annoying self entitled fanboy in the same vein as syndrome. Sonic is also like the perfect counter to Eggman, as the archie comics put it, Sonic is the X of an equation which is why Eggman kept failing at beating him, he's too chaotic for Eggman to make this kind of plan work, in this situation for example, Sonic wouldn't try to repeat the past and use the exact same tecnique He used to beat the robot previously. To put it simply, Eggman is very good at making plans to perfectly predict his enemy's plans and defeat them, Sonic doesn't really have a plan to be predicted
I always thought the carpet bombing thing was copium. I'm not saying it wouldn't do damage, but there's a difference between damage and death. Sonic would outrun it, Tails would just hack the device doing the bombing, Knuckles and Amy would chuck a boulder into it so hard it explodes, Shadow would Chaos Control a bomb into the reactor, Etc.

In some of the old archie comics, there would be times when Eggman would be shrouded in shadows, usually before revealing some horrible twist of something going perfectly to a secret plan. Whenever that would happen, it means sh*t got serious. One can only imagine the shock old readers of Archie had when this menace showed his hidden face again. And your voice acting perfectly nails the feeling here.
Eggman earned his infamy. Also the fact his nemesis is a speedster should tell you of his capabilities. I've no doubt that the good doctor has developed his passive awareness just so he would never be caught unaware by the blue blr.
0:40 holy crap, I thought eggman was just scratching his head, but instead he put the goggles before starline even noticed. I also didn’t notice he put it on until i saw starline trying to hypnotize dr ivo robotnic in the next panel. Nice attention to detail and smart on ivo’s part.
This reminds me of the moment in lost worlds where eggman shattered a massive wall of ice with his bare hands out of sheer frustration. And this display really convinces me that he definitely could strangle a Zeti with his bare hands if he wanted to.
The thing with Eggman is that, when he doesn't showboat and go big and genuinely gets serious, he is an incredible threat to face. He is a genius inventor, a megalomaniac with a drove to do whatever it takes to win, and a showboating ring leader who will make a spectacle out of it all. However, the moment he drops the showboating, you are left with a very driven, very intelligent and very ruthless Dr. Robotnic.
It's horrifying when a peaceful man teaches you why they choose peace. You just accept oblivion when the theater kid with an army looks you in the eyes and starts whailing on you.
Facts. Drop the showboating, Sonic would still probably win more than half the time. But what lets Sonic win so often is the fact that he can play off Eggman so easily. He can annoy him, let him make mistakes, and use his showboating to get an advantage. But drop the arrogance, and you are left with a very smart, and ruthless enemy in a giant robot.
@@xandercrosby3757 Not only that, but Eggman can be unlucky at times. In Sonic Adventure, he fired a missle into station square, but it was a dud. In Sonic Adventure 2, Eggman held a gun to Amy and would've killed Sonic if he didn't use Chaos Control woth a fake emerald. In Sonic Forces, Infinite spared Sonic, when Eggman wanted him dead. In Sonic Unleashed, his Egg Dragoon prototype was designed to counter Sonic, but not the Werehog Sonic. Vice-versa, in Generations you can argue that the Egg Dragoon used in Generations was built to defeat the Werehog, not Sonic in his normal form. Not to mention Metal Sonic, Gamma, Omega and the Hard Boiled Heavies betrayed him. So Eggman's luck can play a role in his defeats as well.

Truth be told, even with Sonic… he’s an actual threat. It’s just that Sonic is legitimately that good at what he does. Still… as much as Sonic and Eggman has clashed… they’re lucky they’ve never pushed the other one too far (outside of the Metal Virus incident… that was DARK)… because if either Sonic or Eggman went fully off the deep end… the world would be screwed.
Starline was so obsessed with turning Mr. Tinker back into Eggman that he unintentionally succeeded in creating his own downfall. The world either live in peace or Starline could succeed with Mr. Tinker remaining, but instead he brought the monster back and tried to best the very person capable of understanding Starline’s method and madness to a razor fine point.
This is one of my favorite Eggman moments ever! The intimation, the dialogue, him proving he's the superior one here! And your voice acting gives me chills! 100/10! Imagine instead of fighting, Sonic, Tails, Kit, and Surge were just watching this go down! Dang!

For all the trials and tribulations of the games, the outside media actually tends to be okay to stellar. After issue 160 Archie got good after having to run damage control on everything Ken Penders touched, that same writing team is now working on IDW.
The IDW comics are REALLY great, especially due to Ian Flynn working on them. And it seems like Sega has started giving him more freedom in the recent comics.

The actual title of the comic is simply "Sonic the Hedgehog" which is confusing since the archie comics also had the same title. The comic began its run in 2018, so some retailers may have it listed as Sonic the Hedgehog (2018).
THIS is why Eggman's IQ is 300, sure Sonic is able to foil his plans or being attacked by creatures he tried to use for his own gain (like Perfect Chaos or Dark Gaia), but when its outsmarting another genius competing his intellect and knocking them to the ground unconscious? The man's a legend. 0:39 Best part was where Eggman came prepared, reminding Starline that he was the one who foolishly showed his inventions to him, and when he tried to stab him in the back by using the glove, where in reality, HE was the one who did the backstabbing all along and Starline didn't know. People tend to forget that Robotnik was based on, among other things and people, Theodore fucking Roosevelt. That man was a legend in real life and Ivo has no shortage of that badassery.
Robotnik is basically 6'5 and weighs 400lb in a world where almost everyone else is either a 4' nothing cartoon furry or a normal human. He's the Kingpin/Wilson Fisk of his universe, and I really don't think he gets enough credit for that. So it's nice to see him just absolutely clown on somebody with his bare hands. Eggman can be cartoonish at times, but I still think he's overall one of the most competent and dangerous villains of his archetype.
He could easily be a Smash character, this part shows it, he may not be the character with the most extraordinary set of skills [physically speaking] with so many superhuman characters, or already armed, or straight up beasts, but he clearly measures up, or are you going to tell me that Eggman won't measure up, but the Villager will? And I'm only talking physically, I haven't touched on the topic that Eggman can easily be someone armed with so much technology that this scientist handles, yes For some reason he is the archenemy of fucking Sonic, *Sonic himself,* known for being someone who has been able to defeat deities with not much difficulty (with some exceptions, of course), now, there is a comment that I like, and it is that: "People tend to forget that eggman loses all the time because his opponent is a hedgehog who breaks the laws of physics" (from @OmiGundam777), who, personally speaking, is right
He said it himself - if he just wanted Sonic dead he'd carpet-bomb the hedgehog until he was ashes. But that's too *easy* - he *needs* Sonic to know he's beaten, he needs to rub it in his face. He wants to validate his ego, prove that he's the big shot, so he 'plays the game'. Unfortunately for Starline, he doesn't get that courtesy.

It really does put into perspective how huge of a threat Eggman is. He's often not taken seriously because we usually see him from Sonic's perspective. The reality of the situation though, is that he's one of the most powerful entities of his world, fully capable of conquering it if not for the likes of Sonic and Shadow keeping him in check. He's not only singlehandedly capable of outsmarting and outgunning entire militaries such as G.U.N. but even has physical feats such as outrunning Sonic on foot in Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and Sonic 3&K. He may look like he's out of shape and give the impression that he relies on his mind, but that's all just part of his intellectual façade to get others to underestimate him. Dude's a genuine menace and he revels in it.
The delivery on "I've made my mistakes. One of them was tolerating you for this long." is _fucking terrifying._ You've made Ivo sound _feral._ As a side note, your Dr. Starline sounds eerily like Vic Mignogna.
On my second watch through, the "I knew your obsessions with my past exploits would give you logical tunnel vision!" That's Eggman putting the pieces together, and coming up with "This platypus is like looking at myself in a mirror. And how do I lose? Fantasizing about winning." And just went out there to make his mirror image fail in a way he himself has failed so many times before. To make a POINT. And to spell that out, Eggman's always aware of how and why he's losing- even if he can't beat that cause in the moment. (Because as everyone seems keen on, he loves fighting Sonic and wants cinema over winning, causing him a lot of loses.)
People seem to forget the reason Eggman loses is because Sonic is a Speedster that breaks the laws of physics. The reason Sonic almost loses sometimes is because he becomes too arrogant sometimes and let's his guard down.
I love that you can see at the start Eggman doesn't have his goggles on yet but whilst he's walking to Starline as he monologue he brought his hand to his head, Starline wasn't able to notice cuz of how intimidating Eggman was but that meant he even knew "and now that he's backed in to a corner, he's going to use that little glove of his." Yes, he's a genius but I love that it really shows here cuz Eggman is Sonic's rival, he would know what Sonic can do and what he's capable of. He knew Starline but never fought him yet he knew what he would do next and even had the perfect way for Starline to not notice it.
Thats the thing with Eggman, you can try to outsmart him or imitate him all you like He will always find a way not only to break you physically, but mentally too, to the fact that he could've very well have plotted the whole thing without you even knowing it
Imagine Starline interact with Snively and Breezie. Snively is a toady looking for a chance to replace his uncle while Breezie respect Eggman and uses the teachings he gave her to build her casino empire. She even know Eggman despise robot versus robot and likes to enrage him and reminds him the reasons he can't carry out his threats.
I feel like idw eggman ( and normal game eggman seeing how that are practically the same person ) would have carpet bomb breezies casino without worrying too much about what would happen to basically his empire since he does not care about what he destroys
@@mighty4024 That's true but the casino is one of Eggman's businesses that Neo Metal Sonic had given to Breezie. Breezie always send some percentage to her boss, which he needed it to fund more materials for his robots. If he destroyed it, his income will drop and the civilian will become too afraid to visit other casinos, thus Eggman will be bankrupt and has no way to rebuild his army.
This is why I love the IDW run. Eggman is still a funny character, but when they want to make him intimidating, they are not afraid to go all out. This is one of the best, one sided beat downs I have ever seen, and all Eggman had to do was let Starline play himself.
There's something really cathartic about Eggman kicking someone's ass bare handed. No mechs, no contraptions, no glorious scheme, just throwing These Hands
Dr. Eggman is most certainly capable of killing his opponents. He's so intelligent and wise that he purposely keeps Sonic and his friends around as a driving force to continue his plans. A brilliant thinker looks to all manner of things to invent and needs outside influence to stimulate. One does not kill a golden goose, or in this case, hedgehog.
Actually Eggman had a rant about this in the series He could carpet bomb sonic at any time, leveling everything around the hedgehog in the process. He could essentially just nuke him. However if he did… it wouldn’t be his genius winning the day. He wants to win HIS way, to make machines that outmatch Sonic in a face to face confrontation. His finest creation is literally meant to be a better Sonic. This pride is what drives him in every aspect of life. The atom bomb already exists. Using it to level a city? Something the world can already do. It takes a true mastermind to harness an entity like Chaos and drown the entire city just to build a theme park dedicated to their own greatness. This pride is ultimately WHY he never wins because for all intense and purposes he could play a LOT less fair than he does.

He wants to win via HIS intelligence, he wants to prove he can outmatch Sonic with his creations and his schemes. Think about it. Eggman has the ability to amass a military might no other country can surpass. He casually made a tractor beam able to draw in planets not even from our solar system in Sonic Colors. He very well could just begin secretly building missile silos full of nuclear warheads that eclipses any other world power in number before just erasing the entire country he did it in the moment Sonic steps up but WHY would he do that? Any question you can think of for why Eggman hasn’t done some obvious route to beat Sonic, any way to cheese the blue blur no matter the casualties (and, considering Eggman erased all of time once, he is very much okay with those), is because it would be cheating his way out of his one true challenge

He did an amazing amount of physical activity in that show specifically although I hate how boom made him look fairly fit but made him overrelient on tech eggman is an adapter type of genius much like mcu Tony stark because that Tony is actually good for the most part point being almost every version of eggman is extremely cunning, methodical and of course evil only ever helping if it threatens his life plus we gotta take into consideration he mains his brain but when he wants or has to the man will throw hands
To me it ACTUALLY makes cense that eggman is able to dodge starline's attack. He is SO used to sonic's speed attacks both on him AND his Badniks using spindash. The fact that he could counter that kick makes total cense.
Duuuude, Seeing only Eggman's silhouette with his smile and eyes glowing is sick tho. You can tell he ain't no push over but loses because his opponent is a speedy hedgehog who defies physics.
That Starline voice is actually perfect though, I cannot commend it enough! This dub is incredible in general but the voice acting is the absolute highlight
Friendly reminder to everyone that while Eggman is constantly portrayed as a bumbling oaf compared to Sonic and crew, this same man is more than capable of outwitting AND outmatching any other military force just as easily, if not more so, regardless of that fact. Case in point, Sonic X. Would often be seen either dancing around police drones, blasting through military complexes, even (metaphorically) throwing hands with the same baddies that Sonic and crew were up against, which particularly included beating the tar out of one of their leaders before making the offer to join forces with them to begin with.
Seeing IDW give Eggman the respect he deserves is amazing. He's not an idiot, or a weak man. He's an overconfident genius, who uses tech to make himself stronger. He only loses to sonic because he's overconfident, and Sonic defies all logic.

I’m just obsessed with these shots of Eggman in complete shadow, only his eyes and teeth visible like his logo. He’s instantly recognizable and intimidating, I don’t read these comics but the art in them is in a league of its own
Bro eggman is freaking huge, compared to the average human he can body most people with a stomp, kick, or punch with his huge hands and feet. Just because he uses his brain more often with his inventions doesn't mean he can't throw hands against his enemies. Sonic on the other hand is just far too fast for him to get a good much less direct hit against, not to mention when sonic uses the chaos emeralds he then doesn't even have the power advantage anymore.

Let this be a reminder that Eggman's original inspiration, as far back as his robotnik design, was Theodore Roosevelt. A man known for a family lineage of physical prowess and prodigy. A very big, very smart, very STRONG man.
Ol Teddy Roosevelt was built like a brick factory and could easily back up his softly spoken big stick. Man was a cavalryman and to my understanding a bit of an outdoorsman.

As someone else said, Robotnik has lost to Sonic while wearing power armor or driving mechs. Outside of that though, he's caught Ammy's hammer, tossed Sally so hard she went THROUGH a brick wall, and has beaten several mercenary groups in hand to hand, including Lupe, Whisper, and that whole wolf pack group.
He does lose to Knuckles in brawls, but even then, he's no slouch, and that guy's the biggest power house the good guys have. He is Brains AND Brawn. It's just his opponent is Speed, and can casually violate physics on a whim.
Sonic has speed, strength, durability, and most importantly, charisma. He can go blow for blow with Eggman all day, but what gives him the edge is Eggman's thin skin.

That moment in Sonic Lost World will always be iconic to me. Although the plot was in my opinion pretty barebones, there were some pretty epic moments scattered in-between. Eggman absolutely demolishing that ice wall with his bare fists is easily one of them, proving he is not only extremely smart but also very powerful when the right moment presents itself. The IDW comics showing off his strength against Starline is a similar type of epic to me, and may or may not be a great callback to that iconic Lost World scene.
What most people forget is Eggman sees his fights with Sonic as a rivalry; a test of his ability. When someone *genuinely* angers him, Eggman can absolutely obliterate them in seconds.
As Eggman himself pointed out, he could easily just carpet bomb the Resistance and call it a day. It’s not about just killing Sonic; it’s about defeating him. It’s about proving his technological and intellectual superiority. If he just blows up the entire area and wins that way, then Sonic still wins because Eggman had to resort to excessive brute force to beat him.
Eggman is so full of shit when he says that, not only has he tried carpet bombing Sonic in the past but Eggman has been throwing all the stops at the hedgehog for years.
He's tried carpet bombing, dropping him from orbit, nukes, countless uncontrollable gods, several flying armadas, throwing the sun at the planet, and more.
Eggman was breathing pure copium when he said he could beat Sonic whenever he wanted because he was pissed that Starline got closer to killing Sonic in one try than Eggman had in years.

I kind of love how Eggman can just BODY a typical mobian effortlessly. He's all like "I know I don't have super strength or any particular martial ability, but I AM over 2 feet taller than you and you weigh as much as a small child." He even managed to catch SURGE this way in a later issue, she may have had speed and strength to rival Sonic but all he had to do was catch her off guard for a second so he could grab her by the hair and YEET her out of kicking range.
reminds me of a scene where he caught Tails trying to hack his computer, and picked Tails up by the scruff of his neck, like a small dog!
I love when the comics/games/shows go out of their way to show the differences between Eggman and the mobians.
Sure they may have super powers like super speed and strength but they’re also far more shorter than Eggman and far much lighter meaning that the dude can basically rag doll them if he wanted.
Doesn’t help that despite his body shape the dude is actually in pretty good shape. Dude is fast and pretty strong.

But those things were never canon in the main Japanese continuity as they weren't implemented with Sega of Japan's explicit permission so they were eventually retconned out of the franchise. It's funny, a lot of people attribute Eggman's constant losses to Sonic just giving physics the middle finger on a regular basis.
Eggman is pulling his punches, because like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and the others, he is constantly getting better through their tussles.
Years of facing down Sonic's speed have likely honed his reflexes to be only a step behind the blue blur himself. Tails constantly pushes him to create better bots and more secure OS's. Amy and Knuckles push him to be physically stronger so he can stop their assaults. and Rouge tests his security systems like no one else can.
Hell, it's likely he sees their little spats as little more than training sessions for both sides. He wants them all at their peak, so that when he wins, it's not because they couldn't give it all they had. It's because they did, and it wasn't enough.
Keep in mind. Sonic and co, are still practically kids.
Rouge is the oldest, at 18, and Cream is the youngest, at 6. Sonic himself is 15, and Tails is 8.
Fast forward 10 years, and imagine how much more powerful they could all be.
This interpretation would be inline with his Egg Records in Sonic Frontiers as he introspects that Tails and Amy would be much bigger problems if they were to ever cut themselves loose from Sonic.
He even admits this itself. He could carpet bomb them all and call it a day. But what is the point in that? Where is the satisfaction in that? It's not enough to kill Sonic, Eggman has to prove he's _better_ than sonic.

I've always been fond of the "genius who is a physical powerhouse" concept. Villains are much more of a threat when they can STILL body you after their fancy gadgets break or fail.

he's twice the size of nearly everyone that isn't human. Even then Eggman is huge. Hand to hand fighting most of them is like fighting a superpowered child. They might be able to do things you can't but most of them can't resist a 6 foot tall man suplexing a 3 foot tall person.
Gotta love Eggman in the idw comics. A great blend of intimidating and entertaining. Your performance captures that incredibly well

It's times like this that make you remember that Eggman is a genuine threat - he's a genius to the extreme and this proves it in the best way possible; it only falls flat because of his own obsession with Sonic and a mix of his Ego coming through at the worst times, letting his emotions take over his decision making. When he's not confronting Sonic, you can really see what he's capable of - he's got an inhuman level of strength without having to rely on his mechs alone. He can hold his own when the situation calls for it.
If you were sitting around tinkering constantly with and making new robots and machines, you are gonna get strong. Also having some pretty good reflexes when you recognize that something's about to go wrong, given machines dont give alot of warning.

He's always paying attention to the world around him, even when you think he isn't cause he *knows* how important even the smallest details are.
The reason he never truly beats sonic has nothing to do with a lack of foresight, but because... in a way, he's always holding back out of respect for him. He doesn't *want* to actually defeat sonic because he finds Sonic gives him purpose... but Starline? he was just an annoying self entitled fanboy in the same vein as syndrome.

Sonic is also like the perfect counter to Eggman, as the archie comics put it, Sonic is the X of an equation which is why Eggman kept failing at beating him, he's too chaotic for Eggman to make this kind of plan work, in this situation for example, Sonic wouldn't try to repeat the past and use the exact same tecnique He used to beat the robot previously. To put it simply, Eggman is very good at making plans to perfectly predict his enemy's plans and defeat them, Sonic doesn't really have a plan to be predicted
I always thought the carpet bombing thing was copium. I'm not saying it wouldn't do damage, but there's a difference between damage and death. Sonic would outrun it, Tails would just hack the device doing the bombing, Knuckles and Amy would chuck a boulder into it so hard it explodes, Shadow would Chaos Control a bomb into the reactor, Etc.

In some of the old archie comics, there would be times when Eggman would be shrouded in shadows, usually before revealing some horrible twist of something going perfectly to a secret plan. Whenever that would happen, it means sh*t got serious.
One can only imagine the shock old readers of Archie had when this menace showed his hidden face again. And your voice acting perfectly nails the feeling here.

This reminds me of the moment in lost worlds where eggman shattered a massive wall of ice with his bare hands out of sheer frustration. And this display really convinces me that he definitely could strangle a Zeti with his bare hands if he wanted to.
I mean, he is definitely stronger than a regular human, but he isn’t gonna take on a Zeti without any weapons.
The thing with Eggman is that, when he doesn't showboat and go big and genuinely gets serious, he is an incredible threat to face.
He is a genius inventor, a megalomaniac with a drove to do whatever it takes to win, and a showboating ring leader who will make a spectacle out of it all.
However, the moment he drops the showboating, you are left with a very driven, very intelligent and very ruthless Dr. Robotnic.

You just accept oblivion when the theater kid with an army looks you in the eyes and starts whailing on you.

Facts. Drop the showboating, Sonic would still probably win more than half the time. But what lets Sonic win so often is the fact that he can play off Eggman so easily. He can annoy him, let him make mistakes, and use his showboating to get an advantage. But drop the arrogance, and you are left with a very smart, and ruthless enemy in a giant robot.

Not only that, but Eggman can be unlucky at times. In Sonic Adventure, he fired a missle into station square, but it was a dud.
In Sonic Adventure 2, Eggman held a gun to Amy and would've killed Sonic if he didn't use Chaos Control woth a fake emerald.
In Sonic Forces, Infinite spared Sonic, when Eggman wanted him dead.
In Sonic Unleashed, his Egg Dragoon prototype was designed to counter Sonic, but not the Werehog Sonic. Vice-versa, in Generations you can argue that the Egg Dragoon used in Generations was built to defeat the Werehog, not Sonic in his normal form.
Not to mention Metal Sonic, Gamma, Omega and the Hard Boiled Heavies betrayed him. So Eggman's luck can play a role in his defeats as well.

Truth be told, even with Sonic… he’s an actual threat. It’s just that Sonic is legitimately that good at what he does. Still… as much as Sonic and Eggman has clashed… they’re lucky they’ve never pushed the other one too far (outside of the Metal Virus incident… that was DARK)… because if either Sonic or Eggman went fully off the deep end… the world would be screwed.
Honestly Starline is a braver man than I am, if I saw Eggman standing over me in that first panel I'd be freaking _terrified_
Starline was so obsessed with turning Mr. Tinker back into Eggman that he unintentionally succeeded in creating his own downfall. The world either live in peace or Starline could succeed with Mr. Tinker remaining, but instead he brought the monster back and tried to best the very person capable of understanding Starline’s method and madness to a razor fine point.
This is one of my favorite Eggman moments ever! The intimation, the dialogue, him proving he's the superior one here! And your voice acting gives me chills! 100/10!

Ok. now I am starting to understand why some people may be Sonic fans. This comic looks great!
For all the trials and tribulations of the games, the outside media actually tends to be okay to stellar. After issue 160 Archie got good after having to run damage control on everything Ken Penders touched, that same writing team is now working on IDW.
The IDW comics are REALLY great, especially due to Ian Flynn working on them. And it seems like Sega has started giving him more freedom in the recent comics.

The actual title of the comic is simply "Sonic the Hedgehog" which is confusing since the archie comics also had the same title. The comic began its run in 2018, so some retailers may have it listed as Sonic the Hedgehog (2018).
THIS is why Eggman's IQ is 300, sure Sonic is able to foil his plans or being attacked by creatures he tried to use for his own gain (like Perfect Chaos or Dark Gaia), but when its outsmarting another genius competing his intellect and knocking them to the ground unconscious? The man's a legend.

Robotnik is basically 6'5 and weighs 400lb in a world where almost everyone else is either a 4' nothing cartoon furry or a normal human. He's the Kingpin/Wilson Fisk of his universe, and I really don't think he gets enough credit for that. So it's nice to see him just absolutely clown on somebody with his bare hands. Eggman can be cartoonish at times, but I still think he's overall one of the most competent and dangerous villains of his archetype.
He could easily be a Smash character, this part shows it, he may not be the character with the most extraordinary set of skills [physically speaking] with so many superhuman characters, or already armed, or straight up beasts, but he clearly measures up, or are you going to tell me that Eggman won't measure up, but the Villager will? And I'm only talking physically, I haven't touched on the topic that Eggman can easily be someone armed with so much technology that this scientist handles, yes For some reason he is the archenemy of fucking Sonic, *Sonic himself,* known for being someone who has been able to defeat deities with not much difficulty (with some exceptions, of course), now, there is a comment that I like, and it is that: "People tend to forget that eggman loses all the time because his opponent is a hedgehog who breaks the laws of physics" (from @OmiGundam777), who, personally speaking, is right
Starline failed to understand why eggman looses to sonic, its because eggman wants to beat sonic in the most satisfying way, not the most optimal way.
He said it himself - if he just wanted Sonic dead he'd carpet-bomb the hedgehog until he was ashes. But that's too *easy* - he *needs* Sonic to know he's beaten, he needs to rub it in his face. He wants to validate his ego, prove that he's the big shot, so he 'plays the game'.
Unfortunately for Starline, he doesn't get that courtesy.

It really does put into perspective how huge of a threat Eggman is. He's often not taken seriously because we usually see him from Sonic's perspective. The reality of the situation though, is that he's one of the most powerful entities of his world, fully capable of conquering it if not for the likes of Sonic and Shadow keeping him in check. He's not only singlehandedly capable of outsmarting and outgunning entire militaries such as G.U.N. but even has physical feats such as outrunning Sonic on foot in Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and Sonic 3&K. He may look like he's out of shape and give the impression that he relies on his mind, but that's all just part of his intellectual façade to get others to underestimate him. Dude's a genuine menace and he revels in it.

With every time I see this scene I grow more and more hungry for an official game where Eggman just ditches the gadgets and throws absolute hands
The time Eggman showed off his physical strength for once.
On my second watch through, the "I knew your obsessions with my past exploits would give you logical tunnel vision!"
That's Eggman putting the pieces together, and coming up with "This platypus is like looking at myself in a mirror. And how do I lose? Fantasizing about winning."
And just went out there to make his mirror image fail in a way he himself has failed so many times before.
To make a POINT. And to spell that out, Eggman's always aware of how and why he's losing- even if he can't beat that cause in the moment.
(Because as everyone seems keen on, he loves fighting Sonic and wants cinema over winning, causing him a lot of loses.)
People seem to forget the reason Eggman loses is because Sonic is a Speedster that breaks the laws of physics.
The reason Sonic almost loses sometimes is because he becomes too arrogant sometimes and let's his guard down.
I love that you can see at the start Eggman doesn't have his goggles on yet but whilst he's walking to Starline as he monologue he brought his hand to his head, Starline wasn't able to notice cuz of how intimidating Eggman was but that meant he even knew "and now that he's backed in to a corner, he's going to use that little glove of his." Yes, he's a genius but I love that it really shows here cuz Eggman is Sonic's rival, he would know what Sonic can do and what he's capable of. He knew Starline but never fought him yet he knew what he would do next and even had the perfect way for Starline to not notice it.
Thats the thing with Eggman, you can try to outsmart him or imitate him all you like
He will always find a way not only to break you physically, but mentally too, to the fact that he could've very well have plotted the whole thing without you even knowing it
Imagine Starline interact with Snively and Breezie. Snively is a toady looking for a chance to replace his uncle while Breezie respect Eggman and uses the teachings he gave her to build her casino empire. She even know Eggman despise robot versus robot and likes to enrage him and reminds him the reasons he can't carry out his threats.
I feel like idw eggman ( and normal game eggman seeing how that are practically the same person ) would have carpet bomb breezies casino without worrying too much about what would happen to basically his empire since he does not care about what he destroys
@@mighty4024 That's true but the casino is one of Eggman's businesses that Neo Metal Sonic had given to Breezie. Breezie always send some percentage to her boss, which he needed it to fund more materials for his robots. If he destroyed it, his income will drop and the civilian will become too afraid to visit other casinos, thus Eggman will be bankrupt and has no way to rebuild his army.
This is why I love the IDW run. Eggman is still a funny character, but when they want to make him intimidating, they are not afraid to go all out. This is one of the best, one sided beat downs I have ever seen, and all Eggman had to do was let Starline play himself.
I love how IDW Eggman remembers he's like seven feet tall and everyone around him is conveniently the size of a small child.

Dr. Eggman is most certainly capable of killing his opponents.
He's so intelligent and wise that he purposely keeps Sonic and his friends around as a driving force to continue his plans. A brilliant thinker looks to all manner of things to invent and needs outside influence to stimulate.
One does not kill a golden goose, or in this case, hedgehog.

He could carpet bomb sonic at any time, leveling everything around the hedgehog in the process. He could essentially just nuke him. However if he did… it wouldn’t be his genius winning the day. He wants to win HIS way, to make machines that outmatch Sonic in a face to face confrontation. His finest creation is literally meant to be a better Sonic.
This pride is what drives him in every aspect of life. The atom bomb already exists. Using it to level a city? Something the world can already do. It takes a true mastermind to harness an entity like Chaos and drown the entire city just to build a theme park dedicated to their own greatness. This pride is ultimately WHY he never wins because for all intense and purposes he could play a LOT less fair than he does.

@@itxoind The point is, Eggman doesn’t want some cheap win like blowing up the entire area Sonic is in while he is asleep. He wants to win via HIS intelligence, he wants to prove he can outmatch Sonic with his creations and his schemes.
Think about it. Eggman has the ability to amass a military might no other country can surpass. He casually made a tractor beam able to draw in planets not even from our solar system in Sonic Colors. He very well could just begin secretly building missile silos full of nuclear warheads that eclipses any other world power in number before just erasing the entire country he did it in the moment Sonic steps up but WHY would he do that?
Any question you can think of for why Eggman hasn’t done some obvious route to beat Sonic, any way to cheese the blue blur no matter the casualties (and, considering Eggman erased all of time once, he is very much okay with those), is because it would be cheating his way out of his one true challenge

He did an amazing amount of physical activity in that show specifically although I hate how boom made him look fairly fit but made him overrelient on tech eggman is an adapter type of genius much like mcu Tony stark because that Tony is actually good for the most part point being almost every version of eggman is extremely cunning, methodical and of course evil only ever helping if it threatens his life plus we gotta take into consideration he mains his brain but when he wants or has to the man will throw hands

To me it ACTUALLY makes cense that eggman is able to dodge starline's attack.
He is SO used to sonic's speed attacks both on him AND his Badniks using spindash. The fact that he could counter that kick makes total cense.

Friendly reminder to everyone that while Eggman is constantly portrayed as a bumbling oaf compared to Sonic and crew, this same man is more than capable of outwitting AND outmatching any other military force just as easily, if not more so, regardless of that fact.
Case in point, Sonic X. Would often be seen either dancing around police drones, blasting through military complexes, even (metaphorically) throwing hands with the same baddies that Sonic and crew were up against, which particularly included beating the tar out of one of their leaders before making the offer to join forces with them to begin with.
The audio design, the music, the hopelessness in starline's voice, Robotnik's no nonsense rage...

Seeing IDW give Eggman the respect he deserves is amazing. He's not an idiot, or a weak man. He's an overconfident genius, who uses tech to make himself stronger. He only loses to sonic because he's overconfident, and Sonic defies all logic.

Always remember that Eggman seems silly because every single game takes place in Sonic's Perspective which Eggman is a joke.
