  • I’ve been sitting on this video a few weeks now so I have a good opinion on both products.
The Coast HP3R is a nice little light I charge it once a week and as long as I don’t leave it on it hasn’t died on me yet. The small form factor is nice and the rubber bite guard is great addition for these small lights.
The MagMaster Pro really comes in handy once I remembered that it was there. I do get stuck to the side of forklifts now and then.

Funny story: When I was working on conveyors, I got one of those belt magnets. I was walking through a narrow passage with a coworker. The magnet grabbed the conveyor next to me and stopped me dead in my tracks and I fell right on my ass. Out of frustration I threw it in the garbage, and I couldn't get in there because the magnet kept grabbing the lid.

@@Heizenberg32 I get that, but it is possible the flashlight just took too perfect of a fall to stop working and possible that the next one would be more sturdy. Personally I would do it because you can use it other places that it wouldn't get beaten up as much.

Thanks for preaching the good word about Coast, Wes. As much as I like Milwaukee, I'm not a fan of their lights for quality, longevity and warranty fulfillment. They're also kind of pricey. Coast has a great warranty, low cost and easy to get serviced if you ever need it.

I've got a Streamlight ProTac 2L-X that's been a true EDC for over 5 yrs. During that time, its been dropped hundreds and hundreds of times, occasionally from over 10' onto concrete. It's been swimming countless times in the lakes, rivers even ocean of the PNW. Recharged God only knows how many times between 2 18650 batts. Has more worn spots than anodizing at this point, and continues to impress me.
I bought another & put it up for the (distant, apparently) day this guy finally dies.

Had it on the underside of my trucks hood and slammed it shut forgetting it was still there, it was still on and working. A lil' super glue and as good as new. If you want a light that will work for years in harsh environments. I had the best luck with a maglite xl50 or xl200 it requires 3AAA batteries though. I used one for a few years in a urethane plant, constantly exposed to high tempature, dropped it many times including at least a few times from a ladder. Chemical exposure as well. I still have it and it still works but the lens is fogged over from chemicals now and the rubber over the on off switch has torn.
In my new career, water distribution, we use bushnell pro 1000L. They're lithium battery and rechargeable. They've been subject to extreme cold and hot, being dropped, tossed around, in the mud and muck and still work.

Does it ever seem like we're making stuff too complex? Why does a flashlight even have the ability to fail? The wiring diagram is what you get when you look up a stock image of a circuit. It's the most basic electrical thing there is. If you replace the bulb and batteries, a flashlight should last until the materials decompose to dust.

It however didn't survive me misplacing it in the parts washer (the dishwasher style). It somehow made its way into the tank and didn't find it till about 6 months later when we drained it for a good cleaning. After that... it no workie lol. I was thinking the same. I tried pushing and holding it for a while and got nothing. The manual says nothing about it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Kinda leery about magnets on the belt. Don’t want to kill my cards of phone.
Like to see if it magnetizes the tool over time.

The IP in IP rating actually stands for International Protection, this is because the standard that defines IP ratings which is IEC 60529 states so. It is a really common misconception that IP stands for Ingress Protection.

This is why I buy flashlights from FLASHLIGHT companies.. not grab all tool companies wanting a profit.. I love Milwaukee and won’t ever leave them, but flashlights and certain other things I stick with a real source.

I love Milwaukee and easily have more than $12k of Milwaukee tools and packout. That’s said, when it comes to flashlights I only trust OLight and Streamlight. OLight makes a “Baton 4” light that is cheaper, lighter and objectively better than ALL of the rechargeable lights sold by Milwaukee.

I really like the olight arkfeld or whatever its called. Pocket edc light but still bright. I got the flashlight with a uv light. I use the uv light for cleaning up crap and finding leaks. The regular light is bright. The other option is a flashlight with a green laser. I find the uv one to be more useful in my life though. Only thing i dont like is its not got a user replaceable battery. The new arkfeld pro might but not sure.

That’s what’s nice about the streamlights. The 10 tap allows you to make it do what you want. Mine is set so the first click is low beam, second click high and no strobe. It cost about the same as the broken one in this video
