I have that second star puzzle thing, and I got really good at it.
I figured out that if you just pair up 3 pieces and make 2 halves, the two halves slide together without having to force anything.

I have that puzzle in wooden form that was my fathers. My father bought many different 3D puzzles back in the 80's when I was a kid.
