Boys, I'll be 40 in a couple weeks and I can remember the day, November 18th, 1987. I was 3-years-old when my 7-year-old brother got a NES for his birthday with the Zapper and combo SMB/Duck Hunt game. The memory is seared into my brain because it was life changing. I'll never forget that day or the night my sister beat SMB for the 1st time or when my bro and his bf beat Tecmo Bowl Season with the Bears. Those memories are legendary to me. I also go Ducktales for a birthday gift years later and it's my favorite game to this day. On my own 7th birthday, 4-years later, my Dad took me to a store and I bought Battletoads as my 1st chosen game for the NES and I still love it to this day. MegaDaniacs are out here, too, we love MegaDan29 and his streams!!!
The younger crowd just doesn’t get it. They didn’t grow up with it, and they have no interest. I work with a bunch of 20-something year olds, and most know nothing about it. They think N64 is old. As someone in my mid forties, I still play and appreciate it.
I am 48 and the NES was synonymous with home console gaming between 1986 and 1990 (I was 10-14). Pretty much everyone had one back then no matter where you were. Difficulty was brutal and no joke! Konami, Nintendo, then Capcom take up the most shelf space in my collection. Currently have about 60 carts and am always interested in hearing about games no one talked about during the life cycle. Appreciate the recommendations!
So, I have to comment on this one. ❤ the NES and always will. I first played it at a friend’s house when I was 5 in 1985. First game I played on it was Excitebike, and it totally blew my 5-year-old mind. I’ve enjoyed it ever since, and it will always have a special place in my heart as the first home console I ever experienced and owned.
My friends and i grew up with nes. They had a literal trailor home in town full of rental games and we played every damn one of them. Passing that controller and teaming up to beat them. Memories that will never die.
Awesome to see Dan back on the show! I never really stop and think about how many games I had on the NES as a kid but I was kind of loaded with choice. Thanks Mum! Blades of Steel was so much fucking fun. Cheers boys
I love the NES. It's not my favorite console of all time, but it is what got me into video games. I played it all the time as a kid, and think it more than anything kicked off the modern gaming industry. Sure, Atari was the first major success, but it was still mainly a bunch of poor arcade ports of high score a thons. The NES made games interactive stories and adventures that went beyond scoring points. It established the third party licensing structure. So many prominent franchises got started on the NES. The cultural and historical importance of the console should never be understated.
Passed on NES because Genesis & TG-16 just released and were obviously the rage so were my first consoles. Discovered the incredible library of games on the NES decades later and I still enjoy discovering games I missed and playing NES to this day
I am 24, have zero nostalgia for the NES but it is my favorite console hands down. Honestly, the people around my age and younger that say the NES is bad simply just don't have the patience to truly play through an NES game, ESPECIALLY teenagers and younger with all the short form videos they watch, they're too impatient to truly sit down and commit to a very difficult game.
My brother doesn't have any video game consoles in his house except for a little FC twin clone console, and my nephew is 8 years old and for a couple of years has really loved old school NES. His favorite games are Mega Man 2, Super Mario Bros. too, Kirby's adventure, etc. he plays switch at his friend's house, but he legitimately likes the old stuff. So some of it I think is about access. Anyone who only had access to original NES would find it compelling for the same reason we all did back in the day.
My first console was a gift from an aunt. Nintendo Entertainment System. It was 1987 and I was 15 that summer. I had 6 games , Including Bayou Billie, Metroid, Balloon Pop, TMNT, Zelda, And Mario bro . We rented games back then and borrowed from friend's. I'm now 53 and play NES on occasion and still enjoy many titles. Tecmo football 4 Ever.
Balloon Fight, unless it had a different name in your region. Thanks for sharing your story! I'm 40 and still play NES every week.... since about age 5
@@danbauer3669 I'm glad you said about age 5 & not I was 2 years old like a lot of comments I read lol. I was like 9 years old when I 1st started gaming.
@@tonyp9313 I'm sure some people started out real young. I couldn't honestly say my age the first time I played a game. Played a bunch of PC games before getting an NES at age 5. I learned to read at age 2. Got bored of Spot books real quick and moved on to The Punisher and Wolverine. I used to love reading when I was young. So, you never really know. I just wonder what the benefit to lying about things is. Nobody really cares that much about claims made by randos on the internet.
When I grew up I had to sell my old system if I wanted the new one gaming back in the day was expensive. Every game was a celebration because it was so expensive and exclusive. I still remember that my grandparents from both sides bought me the first Zelda together for Christmas It was really those memories that make nostalgia hit hard for me
Great colab with MegaDan! Got me thinking about some content that would be right up your alley. You guys should do a "draft" for each of the retro systems like when WWE did the SmackDown and Raw draft. You could each choose 10-20 games and see who drafts the best roster.
As someone who had my formative gaming years in arcades and on the 2600, the NES was SUCH a revelation. Truly one of the absolute greatest consoles ever. Sadly, the older it gets , I think we are going to see it get less and less respect, similar to what we’re seeing with the gen 2 consoles like the 2600 and the Intellivision.
Being 45, the NES holds a special place in my heart. It was the 1st console that was for me. Punch Out, Contra, Zelda, Mario, Castlevania and Metroid. These games hold a special place in my heart. I'd rather play these old games then playing something on my modern systems. And Kings of the Beach is amazing!!!! I remember renting it from Road Show Video in the 80's!
I grew up playing the N64. Ive never played a NES, but a lot of sagas started there ,mario bros, the legend of Zelda, dragon quest, metroid, contra, double dragon, mother/earth bound,Nes deserves respect cuz of its great legacy history.
I'm 46 and grew up with the Nintendo Entertainment System. Just fond memories of the time and this console. My main thought on this: without the NES, no PlayStation would most likely ever have been there. Great job, guys, as always! ✌🏼🤩
like many, the NES introduced me to a world of magic & wonder inside of the tv. the art for the manuals, box art & any & all magazine coverage spurred my imagination. as a child i got games second hand. so i'd make draw my own box art or manuals. the one drawing i still have from back then was something i drew on the back of my 1st grade achievement in attendance paper. the drawing was inspired by the box art for super castlevania 4. also like many, the NES was an escape from reality. escape from whatever bullshit we were going through. shit, escape WAS our reality. but all in all. the NES is a part of me i cant let go. and thats a beautiful thing.
I still play my NES all the time! I recently went back with a friend and beat "8 Eyes". Man, such an amazing game. When I'm looking to frog around I often pick up the NES. I don't think it's only nostalgia. NES is legit awesome. I have a 26 year old friend from work who loves the NES too, and they didn't grow up with it at all.
A few more from my games beaten list (mostly) : Gyruss,Rollergames,Vice Project Doom, P.O.W. , Metal Storm, Little Samson, 1943, The New Ghostbusters 2, Bonk's Adventure, Jackie Chan, Bubble Bobble, Bump N Jump, Crisis Force, Guardian Legend, GI Joe (2 games), Gun Nac, Hammerin Hero, Mighty Final Fight,Pinbot, Street Fighter 2010, Whomp Em , Wizards and Warriors. Played through around 229 NES games though some are Japanese and PAL. There's alot of great exclusives in other regions too like Wanpaku Grafiti. Jackal is one that never gets mentioned but is one of my favorites. I'm still discovering more great games on emulation. Quite a few NES ports that I like better than the arcade originals. Gyruss (adds boss fights), Jackal (extra stages I believe and wider stages), Contra and Super C (enjoyed these more on NES), Gun.Smoke (more enjoyable than the brutal arcade version and adds shops and different power ups), Karnov (must less obscure to figure out than the arcade) to name a few.
As an older gamer I have a hard time putting time in to be able to beat a game like Ninja Gaiden or Contra. But there are also games with passwords like Faxanadu, The Guardian Legend or Battle of Olympus. Games with battery save like Tecmo Super Bowl or Crystalis. With a little effort those can be beaten and not have to start from the start.
Contra isn't that hard with practice and a short game. Crystalis or Battle of Olympus (which is a hard game too) would take me more time to beat, simply because it's a lot longer.
My original NES got lended to a friend of mine, who then let another person I never knew of take it home. Well that stranger moved to New York or New Jersey and that was everything I ever owned for the NES. All types of controllers, probably over 100 plus games (some rare values) and that was back around 2002. I own an another one with a very limited amount of games, but I always come back to it. Top 10 NES games Paper Boy The Mafat Conspiracy Dirty Harry Super Mario 3 Ninja Gaiden Karate Champ River City Ransom Super Dodge Ball Baseball Simulator 1.000 TMNT
I’ve been going back to play games like Shatter Hands and Power Blade. Those games still slap. If they were released today as indie titles, they would be successful.
Not sure if these were mentioned but also throwing in Little Nemo, Gun Smoke, Yo Noid!, Gremlins 2, MC Kids, Popeye, Tiny Toons 🐐system and always will be. Great video per usual yall
Megadannnnn!!! I got an endless love for NES but it’s a problem trying to get my kids to care about it. They want nothing to do with old school games at this point. Sometimes I feel like I failed as a dad 😆 Maybe someday they’ll come around…
Hopefully they come around lol. The problem is kids today didn't grow up with that stuff. They have stuff handed to them. They want stuff that looks awesome & for the most part games being easy as possible.
I cannot ever forget NES. It's a significant part of my life. Born in '84, I came out of the womb begging for the machine that didn't even exist yet. By '89 I finally had one! I'm on my 3rd NES now, because I broke one and sold another, but it is an ESSENTIAL part of my retro gaming time machine! And I hate modern gaming SO MUCH that I will never buy a PS5.
Besides growing up with the nes, compared to today, we had our own unique experiences. Our imaginations made the games as well. When we were at home, it was tv, a book, or Nintendo. If adults weren't buying you games, you had to work at games or give up playing. Most cost $50+ which is a lot more in today's dollars. I delivered Pennysaver. And so much more...
If your parents bought you games lol. When I was a kid, I only got games for Birthday's & Christmas. Had about 10 games for the Sega Master System. Didn't own a Nintendo. Played that console at a friends houses with I would say maybe 20 I played total back in the day. That was with them owning games & renting.
Had the NES growing up and loved it. I just find myself going back to NES games less and less these days because, with what little time I have to game, I enjoy playing new games. Furthermore I never really end up going back once I beat them.
I was born in 88 but my older brother was born in 82 and until I was 8 the neighborhood I lived was full of kids my brothers age. I played when I could but you can probably figure out that my play time was fairly limited. The Nostalgia is still very much alive for that era and I keep going back because the games are so damn good! My ratio of games I beat to games I played would be extremely low until you get to around the PS3/360 era. You guys hit all the nails on the head. They can't handle the fact that a simple game that takes 30 mins to an hour to complete can require more gameplay than some modern games. They play the game. They are bad at it. They don't like being bad. They refuse to put the work in. That means the games suck.
The Master System doesn’t have the library of the NES, but it still has some great titles. Shinobi, Rastan, Time Soldiers, Spellcaster, Vigilante, Space Harrier, R-Type, E-Swat, and more. The controller is trash, but you can just plug in a Genesis controller.
Not for all games you can't. Some of them you have to play with the Sega Master system Controller. Top games like Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Bomber Raid is another.
My first console! Duck Hunt and Mario to start and then I moved onto other wonderful NES games. Hell, I even played the heck out of that TMNT game people say is bad. Great memories!
I love the NES library. I was lucky enough to get those expensive games before they became expensive like Little Samson, power blade 2, Flintstones surprise at dinosaur peak, panic restaurant, bonks adventure, kid klown, snow brothers, duck tales 2 and many others. But I've noticed when a lot of these UA-cam content creators came onto UA-cam and resellers, a lot of your NES games got so expensive and they are still shoving it down peoples throats to this day of how they're missing out on these NES games and that drove the gaming market to go up and retro collecting became hard on people who can't afford expensive NES games. People like retro Rick, pixel game squad and others kept shoving it down peoples throat and that made their fans go out and buy NES games when most of them did not know it existed and nowadays you go to conventions for a little Samson game, you will be paying over $2,000. A lot of people are forced to emulate that either choose not to buy expensive NES games or can't afford to.
I love NES, I had one as a kid and still have and play one now. I play NES at very least once a week. So many games to discover and so many good classics. I recently discovered Shatter hand, Power Blade 1&2, I played a Kabuki game recently, I forget the full title but it was awesome. The list goes on and on. PS5 games are more immersive, I have to admit that but better?? IDK about that. Great video guys. Let's keep the NES alive.
Here are some decent to great games that weren't mentioned: 1943 Adventure of Lolo Crystalis Gargoyles quest II Gun Nac Gyruss Journey to Silius Kirby Life Force Little Nemo Little Samson Maniac Mansion Metal Storm Mighty Final Fight Rad Racer
The places I get stuck are on new games that have serious glitches. I bought Spiderman 2 when it launched, but I had to wait several months for my copy to be playable past the first level.
39 year old here lol! I will say this, I don’t have a lot of nostalgia for the NES but I respect the console for its impact. However, I would be lying if I said there weren’t some absolute classics like the Chip N Dale games, Mario bros, Ninja Gaiden, contra, TMNT, etc….. Just because I don’t collect for the NES or play that console primarily doesn’t mean I do not like it, it’s just not my favorite. I would say that I’m more nostalgic for the SNES more than anything, but damn there’s some bangers on the NES! Controversial statement, my absolute favorite console is the N64, and in second place would be the OG XBOX. There is no reason to take a sh*t on the NES, especially if you’re an old f*ck like me lol, but I’d be lying if I said it was my favorite console. Hope that made sense .
And let's not forget another HUGE point that the NES is the greatest system ever. IT HAS ITS OWN CHRISTMAS MOVIE called 8-Bit Christmas. In the words of the immortal James Lipton "It is a deeelight!"
There are people that are just stupid, not sugar coating anybody… the NES has: Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Double Dragon, Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania, Contra, Mega Man, Super Mario, Zelda, TMNT, Bionic Commando, Power Blade, Journey to Silius, Rad Racer, Ghost n Goblins, Battletoads, Star Tropics, Batman… those are the ones i recall. That list alone has more than 20 games, considering the sequels. I have not grown up with a NES, my first console was a Master System, but i was too young to understand how games were. But my second console was a SNES and then a PS1.
I grew up on the 16 bit consoles as due to my age the NES was a little before my time, and I was born in Britain where the NES wasn't that popular. I never played it as a child. Even so, I can easily go back to the NES today and I often do to play classics that I have no childhood nostalgia for but want to experience as an adult. I find the 8 and 16 bit generations quite similar and it's easy to revisit games from both.
I had a NES but I didn't know many friends who had one. They had the master system instead. It's understandable because I think at the time the master system was more popular in Europe
@SkimI3oarder1 Haha interesting! I'm 38. By the time I started playing games in the early 1990s, the Super Nintendo and Mega Drive were out, so the Master System had passed me by, and I don't know anyone who had a NES then.
Obviously younger people are going to say PS5 is better then OG NES, that system just like any other system gets more and more outdated every year. I grew up playing the NES and SNES. I was 16 when PS1 and N64 came out, so I will always have nostalgia for the NES. Having said all that, I have appreciation for the NES and do consider it the GOAT, because after the video game crash in the early 80s, Nintendo is what saved gaming in America. Nintendo restored gamers trust into video games again. Most people born after 2000, will never understand how important the NES was when it came, therefore will not truly or fully appreciate the NES!
im 36 so the NES is a console i played at friends houses and my cousins and whatnot as a young lad...but its hard for me to go back to that console when all these crazy rom sets available to download or get on a retro handheld....im playing some NEO GEO or something over NES for sure
The NES is my Number One console above the Saturn 🪐 and the XBOX 360... This is a great topic guys... Respect to your special guest @MegaDan.. One game many people are sleep on is the original Rambo... It was my first NES game and I thought it was crap! 😮 I was wrong... And the 3rd Double Dragon is awesome... Most people don't take the time to play it ..
To include some more that you guys didn't list: Golgo 13, Mafiat Conspiracy, Vice: Project Doom, Metal Storm, Crystalis, Might Final Fight, Kickmaster, Monster In My Pocket, Galaxy 5000, Micro Machines, Super Off-Road, Super Sprint, Formula One: Built to Win, Gauntlet II, so many more. As for the SMS, the C64 was a bigger competitor to the NES than the SMS or 7800 was in the United States. The SMS got quite a bit of support outside US and Japan, but it still couldn't compete library wise.
@@coffeelover7687 that's what I say, too, man. What were some of the best PS3 games? The Last Of Us, Grand Theft Auto V.... What were some of the best PS4 games? The Last Of Us, Grand Theft Auto V What were some of the best PS5 games? The Last Of Us Grand Theft Auto V The only question I have for myself is, why did you buy a PS4?
@@coffeelover7687 I bought both PS4 and Xbox One for Fallout 4. Two consoles for one game. I now have 50+ Xbox one games that I don't play and don't care about and 50+ PS4 games that I don't play and don't care about. Here's another angle, is retro game collecting cheaper than modern game collecting? I think yes. I worked with a guy who said he spent 2k on Fortnight... I was like, what? I could've got 2 copies of Little Samson for that... Fortnite is worth nothing on the resale market. Little Samson goes up and up and up. New call of duty game... $70 + season pass + battle pass + fake in game currency and in the end the game is worth nothing. I paid $175 for Chrono Trigger and it has doubled in value since I made that purchase. Also, these modern games are just time Vampires. These daily reward mechanics that keep you coming back for that dopamine rush on games that don't challenge you and don't help you grow as a person. I put Borderlands 3 on the shelf as soon as I recognized this and haven't touched it since. 100+ hours, play again. 100+ hours, play again. After years of practice and memorization, I got 3 million points on Contra. Felt a real sense of accomplishment. And I didn't even get a trophy pop up. NES don't need that. Modern gaming is trash!! Sorry for the long response, it's just nice to talk to someone like minded on the subject, though I'm sure we don't agree on everything.
1,000% spot on!!! I love the NES, and I get it’s not for everyone, but all consoles from all generations have bangers and their share of shovelware. Personally the love for the GameCube is RIDICULOUSLY overrated, I collect for it, but to each their own as to what floats your boat. I just want to say I love shorter games as it gives freedom to experience the game and move onto another. Games that are more than 5-8 hours are just too much for my attention span and I personal will never finish those games. The “value” of a game should never not be measured by the length. I’m sure there are massively long games that just suck!
There are no attention spans anymore. People don't want to actually sit down and play a game start to finish anymore. Just play for a little bit, hit the save button then comeback at some point down the road. My son won't even take the time to play a season of Madden. He makes the trades and does the administrative tasks......THEN SIMULATES IT ALL and feels accomplished. I'm like dude, it doesn't count unless you actually take the time to play the games! This conversation made me think that at some point, there will be no people left who actually owned and played the NES as a kid. Happy Holidays Gentlemen. Cheers
I'll say this, I had a chance to buy the PS5 slim a few weeks ago on sale for $600 plus with online, Fort Night, 2 controllers etc. I just decided to pass up on it. I felt like The good games on it or great ones I can just play any good or great game on either my PS4 or Nintendo Switch. Here's the thing, I find the Nes a whole lot better than the PS5 because it has games they don't make now. Where as PS5 games I played games that were the same style etc since the PS3 era. It comes down to differences. Too be honest if I own a switch & awesome games are on that console, there's no incentive for me to buy a PS5 when games are very similar.
While the genesis was the first system I ever owned myself. The nes will forever be the first game console I ever played, and adventure island was the first game outside of arcade cabinets at the local pizza place
First console I ever owned; However I wasnt able to get the full experience as i only had 2 games and was 4 at the time...however I hope to dive back into the console
In an hour I can beat Friday the 13th, SMB, Wolverine and Renegade on the NES. lol. Try doing that on any modern console. lol. If all roads lead to Rome, all video games lead to NES. Without it, there wouldn't even be an industry.
Some not mentioned in the vid that I'd say are good games would be Kirby adventure, maniac mansion, adventures of robin Hood, dragon warrior 3&4, panic restaurant, metroid mario 1,2 and 3, gi joe and mech warriors. if you look outside the U.S. the ghost busters 2 game that came out in pal regions only and wai wai world and king kong 2 that came out for famicom.
Of course the SNES blows it out of the water, but if it was not for the NES and the console’s before that era…there would be no advances in the era’s development of gaming altogether that came after. The NES is something that you had to grow up in that era to really understand the appreciation and value of one of Nintendo’s greatest consoles ever to hit the living room entertainment setting’s.
@@robzo87 we fully understand and acknowledge the NES. It saved gaming (for the time, some argue it was the start of the death of arcades because of Nintendo). It’s just almost all the SNES catalog falls when you vs against SNES. All the NES games with SNES remakes are generally all better versions still. Same with N64 and SNES. SNES and Gameboy (OG-Advanced) are just the two greatest Nintendo platforms ever created.
@@RobNemeth I’m not here to argue with anyone in a negative manner. I’m just simply stating where NES got us to at this point in time. I’m glad you are one of the rare few who actually got to grow up with one of these for your generation (whatever that may be), but it does hit a little bit different with Gen X and Millennials (1987 for me). No different for you watching how the evolution of gaming has changed over the course of time as you’ve grown with each era that came and went onward to the next. There is something about growing up with each Gen during its course of history on the timeline of gaming.
You guys talked about Nes versions being better than the arcade versions, I have to agree. However if you want the arcade experience at home, Sega Genesis is your console for that.
I know I'm probably in the minority, but I try to play even those mini consoles the way the game was intended so, only save where you originally could or if there are no saves then just play without saving. I will admit though that Sonic 2 I have utilized the save state, but most games I play the way they were meant even if I have save state as an option.
Too many opinions are just parroted by people who have barely played the games and systems they're about. Watching a longplay, reading a review, checking Wikipedia, etc. does not create a qualified opinion. Some games look great and play like trash. Some look mediocre, but feel fantastic to play. Playing a ROM for 5 minutes isn't giving a game a fair shake, either. I don't like calling it a generational thing, but there are a lot of young folks who just don't respect the past at all, and just operate under the assumption that everything newer is better. There's good and bad in the past and in the now, and it all deserves a fresh set of eyes and an open mind.
I'm currently going through the NES library and there is definitely a lot of good games on it, but there's also a lot of nostalgia bias for most of it. Like Castlevania 2 straight up sucks, Ghost N' Goblins is bullshit hard, Super Mario Bros. 2 is boring and its not a real Mario game. But again there is plenty of good games on the NES library and it's crucial part of gaming history.
Don't forget the Japanese-only games, quite a few of which already have an English translation: Kyatto Ninden Teyandee Kaiketsu Yanchamaru 2 Babel no Tou Haunted Halloween ‘85 + Haunted Halloween ‘86 are nice homebrew examples. Blades of Steel and Konami’s Hyper Soccer are great sport titles.
I was born in 1985. I played the original NES games at friend's house and I remember the games being difficult. I just recently got a Everdrive and put all the NA roms on it and I am floored by how some of these games are unplayable. These games are so difficult to the point where you need 100% perfect runs and jumps in order to beat it. There is literally no margin of error. You take a hit at an early point of a level or a world and you might as well hit reset. Anything that's made by Nintendo; Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, there's a nice difficulty curve there, it doesn't feel impossible. With those games, we know that it's not a limitation of the technology in the 1980s, they made good games that felt beatable. And even some 3rd party games like the Mega Mans and the Final Fantasy's aren't that ball busting hard. What I'm talking about is something like the TMNT or Ghosts n Goblins are absurdly difficult for what feels like no reason. I know why they did it, I know the history behind making these games so difficult is because of rentals and shit. I have no problem saying, skip the NES generation entirely, pickup a Switch with NSO and play the basics there. If you're a collector, why? Skip that generation, get an SNES with Super Mario All Stars+World. No one is going to give you a high five if you have a legit copy of Little Samson or Track and Field Events, so knock it off.
Excitebike...Kung Fu Nintendo is the foundation for all of gaming. It was the explosion that first launched the industry into outerspace. Without Nintendo, who knows what we'd have today? The only thing, I can think, that may come close to Nintendo's impact would be virtual reality.
I’m 47 y/o and I grew up with the NES and loved it and still do. A lot of the games that came from the NES are legendary and still hold up like Castlevania, Metroid, Super Mario bros 1-3, Zelda, Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, Ninja Gaiden etc. Sure PS5 is the latest and greatest new shiny game console with bigger and better graphics and sound but you have to respect and give credit to the OG NES!
Noone fucking cares
The younger crowd just doesn’t get it. They didn’t grow up with it, and they have no interest. I work with a bunch of 20-something year olds, and most know nothing about it. They think N64 is old. As someone in my mid forties, I still play and appreciate it.
NES is so freaking good ❤
This channel should have SOOOO many more subs.

First game I played on it was Excitebike, and it totally blew my 5-year-old mind. I’ve enjoyed it ever since, and it will always have a special place in my heart as the first home console I ever experienced and owned.
I still can’t believe you guys haven’t topped 100k subs. Love the channel and the NES! (Just picked up shadow of the ninja!)
Hell ya! Enjoy that game. It's so damn good!
It's bullshit, these boys probably don't get that friendly algorithm other "clean" channels do.
RDR2 is an experience, Ninja Gaiden is an exercise in frustration
I like RDR2… but, i can see the weakness on you by that comment alone
RDR2 story mode is an experience. RDO sucks. Ninja Gaiden II Dark Sword of Chaos is gaming perfection.
This video can't be complete without someone mentioning Panic Restaurant. It's like Castlevania but with food. Super charming and fun.
My friends and i grew up with nes. They had a literal trailor home in town full of rental games and we played every damn one of them. Passing that controller and teaming up to beat them. Memories that will never die.
That's crazy just as you guys were saying Dr Mario I was saying Dr Mario.
Awesome to see Dan back on the show!
I never really stop and think about how many games I had on the NES as a kid but I was kind of loaded with choice. Thanks Mum! Blades of Steel was so much fucking fun. Cheers boys
It’s not even about respecting NES for graphics or gameplay etc, its history is incredible and paved the way for what we have today.
Yes sir 🤙

I love the NES. It's not my favorite console of all time, but it is what got me into video games. I played it all the time as a kid, and think it more than anything kicked off the modern gaming industry. Sure, Atari was the first major success, but it was still mainly a bunch of poor arcade ports of high score a thons. The NES made games interactive stories and adventures that went beyond scoring points. It established the third party licensing structure. So many prominent franchises got started on the NES. The cultural and historical importance of the console should never be understated.
Great video guy's I played Gunsmoke at the 7-Eleven back in Highschool! Awesome game!
Your comment makes no sense. Also, how can the nes be your favorite system but have zero nostalgia for it? U make no sense. Shut up!
Blades of steel should be a staple. super cheap and always fun.
I’ve seen and have all from 1980-Now we’re taking it way back to the NES many memories throughout the decades
Pick up and play factor is super high.
Always great to have MegaDan on the channel!!!
like many, the NES introduced me to a world of magic & wonder inside of the tv. the art for the manuals, box art & any & all magazine coverage spurred my imagination. as a child i got games second hand. so i'd make draw my own box art or manuals. the one drawing i still have from back then was something i drew on the back of my 1st grade achievement in attendance paper. the drawing was inspired by the box art for super castlevania 4.
also like many, the NES was an escape from reality. escape from whatever bullshit we were going through. shit, escape WAS our reality. but all in all. the NES is a part of me i cant let go. and thats a beautiful thing.
Bubble bobble
Double dragon series
Batman
Lifeforce
Turtles series
Let's go!
Two of my all time favorite games are on the NES. Contra and Super Mario Bros. 3, which I love even more than Super Mario World.
I love Contra but don't like Super Mario 3. I like Super Mario World that much better than 3.
A few more from my games beaten list (mostly) :
Gyruss,Rollergames,Vice Project Doom, P.O.W. , Metal Storm, Little Samson, 1943, The New Ghostbusters 2, Bonk's Adventure, Jackie Chan, Bubble Bobble, Bump N Jump, Crisis Force, Guardian Legend, GI Joe (2 games), Gun Nac, Hammerin Hero, Mighty Final Fight,Pinbot, Street Fighter 2010, Whomp Em , Wizards and Warriors.
@@Ruudos I agree. But my reflexes aren't the best. So not sure I could do it without the konami code.
Top 10 NES games
Paper Boy
The Mafat Conspiracy
Dirty Harry
Super Mario 3
Ninja Gaiden
Karate Champ
River City Ransom
Super Dodge Ball
Baseball Simulator 1.000
TMNT
I’ve been going back to play games like Shatter Hands and Power Blade. Those games still slap. If they were released today as indie titles, they would be successful.
I grew up on NES as a kid, remember telling my mom I can't go to bed yet I would lose all my progress 😂😅
Not sure if these were mentioned but also throwing in Little Nemo, Gun Smoke, Yo Noid!, Gremlins 2, MC Kids, Popeye, Tiny Toons
🐐system and always will be. Great video per usual yall
Megadannnnn!!!
I got an endless love for NES but it’s a problem trying to get my kids to care about it. They want nothing to do with old school games at this point. Sometimes I feel like I failed as a dad 😆
Maybe someday they’ll come around…
Hopefully they come around lol. The problem is kids today didn't grow up with that stuff. They have stuff handed to them. They want stuff that looks awesome & for the most part games being easy as possible.
I cannot ever forget NES. It's a significant part of my life. Born in '84, I came out of the womb begging for the machine that didn't even exist yet. By '89 I finally had one! I'm on my 3rd NES now, because I broke one and sold another, but it is an ESSENTIAL part of my retro gaming time machine!
And I hate modern gaming SO MUCH that I will never buy a PS5.
Kabuki Quantum Fighter, Vice Project Doom, Metal Gear, Smash TV, Prince of Persia 😮
@tonyp9313 It wasn't very often
@ Yeah I know that, but it does work for most.
My first console! Duck Hunt and Mario to start and then I moved onto other wonderful NES games. Hell, I even played the heck out of that TMNT game people say is bad. Great memories!
We lived and played the exact same moments in time!
I actually liked TMNT 1 and preferred it to the "Arcade Game." More challenging, more variety, more interesting.
Oh yeah TMNT 1.. The water part disabling bombs lol was like I beat the game now & didn't want to play it anymore after that part lol.
Never had a NES
The SNES was my first console, and was exclusively an MS-DOS gamer before then
Had all of the above from the beginning lol
You're missing out
I feel the same way about n64. People haven't really thoroughly gone through the library. Alot of really good games on that console.
Here are some decent to great games that weren't mentioned:
1943
Adventure of Lolo
Crystalis
Gargoyles quest II
Gun Nac
Gyruss
Journey to Silius
Kirby
Life Force
Little Nemo
Little Samson
Maniac Mansion
Metal Storm
Mighty Final Fight
Rad Racer
Basewars is an awesome baseball game, great graphics. Cabal is super fun.
Willow on NES is a gem
The best pick up and play system and it’s not even close…I play these games more then current gen 😂
Vice Project Doom is a killer game.
Yes it is! Working on a No Death Run on that one currently.
The places I get stuck are on new games that have serious glitches. I bought Spiderman 2 when it launched, but I had to wait several months for my copy to be playable past the first level.
Absolutely still the GOAT yes. Always has been and will be. The best video game company overall to ever exist.
The nes was my first console for sure but i didnt really start loving video games until the sega genesis.
I went from NES to the Genesis aswell. Never was a Super NIntendo kid but my friends had one that I played just preferred the Genesis.
And let's not forget another HUGE point that the NES is the greatest system ever. IT HAS ITS OWN CHRISTMAS MOVIE called 8-Bit Christmas. In the words of the immortal James Lipton "It is a deeelight!"
There are people that are just stupid, not sugar coating anybody… the NES has:
Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Double Dragon, Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania, Contra, Mega Man, Super Mario, Zelda, TMNT, Bionic Commando, Power Blade, Journey to Silius, Rad Racer, Ghost n Goblins, Battletoads, Star Tropics, Batman… those are the ones i recall.
Are you me? I just turned 37 and I agree 100%
I had a NES but I didn't know many friends who had one. They had the master system instead. It's understandable because I think at the time the master system was more popular in Europe
@SkimI3oarder1
Haha interesting!
Good stuff! MegaDan is the man!
im 36 so the NES is a console i played at friends houses and my cousins and whatnot as a young lad...but its hard for me to go back to that console when all these crazy rom sets available to download or get on a retro handheld....im playing some NEO GEO or something over NES for sure
To include some more that you guys didn't list:
Golgo 13, Mafiat Conspiracy, Vice: Project Doom, Metal Storm, Crystalis, Might Final Fight, Kickmaster, Monster In My Pocket, Galaxy 5000, Micro Machines, Super Off-Road, Super Sprint, Formula One: Built to Win, Gauntlet II, so many more.
As for the SMS, the C64 was a bigger competitor to the NES than the SMS or 7800 was in the United States. The SMS got quite a bit of support outside US and Japan, but it still couldn't compete library wise.
Chances are that was just a troll comment. I can count one one single hand all the games I'd want for PS5 that can't be found on PS4 or below.
This. ^^^ Reason number 272 of why modern gaming is trash.
Hell games for the PS3 are on the PS5. I didn't want the OG PS5 so why spend $700 on the pro.
@@coffeelover7687 that's what I say, too, man. What were some of the best PS3 games? The Last Of Us, Grand Theft Auto V....
What were some of the best PS4 games? The Last Of Us, Grand Theft Auto V
What were some of the best PS5 games? The Last Of Us Grand Theft Auto V
The only question I have for myself is, why did you buy a PS4?
@@danbauer3669 Actually PS4 had greats that I love. Days Gone, RE2 Remake, RE VII and Village.
AV Famicom > NES... Because of the pain in the ass at times to get games to work on the NES...
Great Romhacks! Great homebrews!
Love the channel I crave more blitz 2003! Keep up the great work boys!
It ain't about the size of the boat it's the motion of the ocean. 😂
Great video. Shatterhand is awesome.
Keep on Rockin in the Free world Boyz. Your vids are awesome and wish I lived closer to y'all . I'd come hang and challenge y'all to a game or Two.
PS4 + NES > PS5. Until PS5 gets some good games there's no point in owning one. Also those NES games will hold your attention longer than PS5 games.
Crystalis
NES is good but SNES is so much better. If SNES was compatible with NES I think it would’ve helped the appreciation for the elder.
Actually there is a device that can attach to the SNES console to play NES. There was the Genesis device to play on SNES as well.
@@tr1bes I’m talking about manufacturer intent. 3rd party devices don’t matter here really.
SEGA was definitely all over that for sure. All the way up to the Dreamcast
It's easy to form your own opinion if you play the games and don't watch AVGN.
Screw the echo chamber, bud!
For GTA San Andreas RDR i had to 💯 those twice including Nightmare. RDR2 once and 2nd time on slow burn. The rest. You ain't wrong.
Double Dragon III is awesome co-op. Impossible 1 player.
I don't think there's anything on PS5 that really compares to Castlevania 3
Can't argue that!
You spelled SNES wrong, that is ok I will allow it lol. The NES laid the groundwork for the greatest console of all time imo.
P.S. anything is better than modern gaming in general. LETS GO RETRO!!!
I may be a little biased but when it comes to pick up and play, and fun and challenging games the NES is a boss.
Don't forget the Japanese-only games, quite a few of which already have an English translation:
Kyatto Ninden Teyandee
Kaiketsu Yanchamaru 2
Babel no Tou
Haunted Halloween ‘85 + Haunted Halloween ‘86 are nice homebrew examples.
Blades of Steel and Konami’s Hyper Soccer are great sport titles.
Emulation helped me appreciate nes. I used to hate it because you can't save games.
0:52, I for one think I’m too good for the NES. Joking but only halfway
Had my facts wrong I thought the PS2 was the goat for sealing the most units 🙄 NES is still amazing 🤙🏼
NES is on the Mount Rushmore of consoles. There is no Debate.
