Being a 90s kid was such a blessing and how controllers would last back then because they were made to withstand raging and all the messy food fingers when you'd have friends over, not to mention the wires that would rarely ever break. There was something about the relationship with the controller and the character you were playing as. It was just immersive without a doubt.
Dude '94 was a solid year for the SNES. It's the time period I spent the most time at Toys R Us on the kiosk playing DKC and Ken Griffey Presents Major League Baseball. Great pick guys.
1994 was absolutely epic for the SNES, and is one of my favorite years ever in gaming. I had a great time back then. I'd say my three favorite years in gaming were 1994, 1996, and 2007 due to how many incredible and different games came out during those years. Games I still play today.
This is a great new style/series! You guys rock, and I look forward to Monday every week to see what you guys cover next. Thanks for doing what you do and keep up the awesome work!
Props for including Joe and Max 2, Pocky and Rocky 2 and Ghoul Patrol. Those rarely are included on a list like this but are pretty good even though they are often overshadowed by their predecessors. All freaking pricey too!
SNES was my childhood system. I love Gradius 3, Mario All-Stars, Super Chase HQ 2, Turtles 4, Zelda, and the Final Fight series. The system has beautiful graphics and great music.
@@GamingOffTheGrid Yeah including those commercials brings me back to watching saturday morning cartoons and finding out which games were coming to stores next.
I don’t know if I’m the only one who gets depressed when I think back about the 90s! Everything about the 90s was an amazing time! The Mall, Toy Stores, McDonalds, Blockbuster, Movies, Cartoons, MLB,NBA,NFL, Wax Junk Sports Cards, BMX Bikes, Playing Football in the Street Until the Street Lights Come on, Swimming, WWF, WCW, ECW, SNES, SEGA Genesis, MMO Games (Ultima Online, EverQuest), Comp USA, Pencil Fighting, Sneakers, Basketball Jerseys, Starter Clothing, Elementary School, Middle School, High School!!! I could go on and on about the 90s!
My birthday: December 9th, 1994 was the day I got the DK SNES box variant along with Super Mario World, Megaman X and FIFA International Soccer. What a great time to be alive!
Same here dude!! Recently spent alot of money on 2 snes's, and alot of fricken games including, Final Fantasy 3, zelda, super Mario rpg, Chrono trigger, secret of mana DK Country 1,2 and 3, youshis island, Mario Kart, and a bunch others too!! Just bought a SNES Mini on Friday for $100. My collection is now complete!
Yes! When I saw your 1990 NES video last week my mind immediately flashed to SNES 94. I had a feeling you guys were going to deep dive that at some point.
So many bangers out of this era! So many memories for me playing these games, as well as still having my childhood copies to this day! Solid list fellas, couldn't agree more!
Great video lads :D I know you said in your previous buying guide video that you didn't grow up with the ps1 but man 1998 was insane for that system imo :D
I remember renting Stunt race FX & being blown away. It’s the frame rate that kills that game. Edit: How could you guys miss Uniracers? That game was awesome for its time!
I turned 12 that year and our family moved that Jan so a lot of these multiplayer games helped me make some new friends. This video was pretty nostalgic for me, but I have to mention you forgot MK2 and Super Street Fighter 2. Also, give Illusion of Gaia a shot, it’s pretty great. PS-I’m the guy that was talking to you guys at the Local H show last year.
Always enjoy the conversation, the SNES holds many great memories playing with friends. Donkey Kong County was a game changer for the system. Appreciate you guys!
omg 1994 was the year I finally got a super nintendo. I got it with my life savings of $104 and it came with both SMW and Mario Kart. The only game that came out in 1994 that I actually got back then was Donkey Kong Country. That demo in department stores was taunting me. :)
Have a fond memory or renting Chester Cheeto game and my parents renting The Fugitive w/ Harrison Ford and watching the movie while playing the game - What a time to be alive Also love Joe & Mac - the graphics, the music, and saving cave babes. Doesn’t get too much better on the SNES Great content - Looking forward to your 24 hour pledge
One of my faves from that year is also Street Racer. Cool characters and tracks and catchy music. I spent many hours playing the rumble mode with my sister
Hell yeah! This new series really tickles the nostalgia berries. I'd like to think someone went to see Pulp Fiction stoned and played DK Country the same night.
I remember playing DK Country at Sears & it blew my my fragile little mind. Begged my parents for a SNES after playing that game demo. Got one for Christmas later that year.
I was 11. We didn’t get one. Mom said that we already had a Nintendo. My best friend Dave had one until he sold everything for the Nintendo 64 upgrade. It was always really special to play at the odd friends house; though didn’t get one until my 20’s. What an awesome year for Nintendo.
Really enjoying this series. 1994 was indeed a monumental year for the SNES. DK Country, Super Metroid, Super Punch-Out, Mega Man X, Demon's Crest, etc. So many great releases came out that year. People forget how big of a deal Donkey Kong Country was. Before that release Genesis and SNES sales were pretty much neck and neck. DK Country was the title that pushed the SNES ahead and gave a 2nd wind to the SNES. It was a system seller for sure and many people who had not bought a SNES up until that point finally made the plunge and bought the console. That said I think 1995 was a low key amazing year for the SNES as well. DKC 2, Final Fight 3, Kirby's Dreamland 3, Earthbound, Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Evermore, Lufia 2, Tetris Attack, Mega Man 7, and more.
Awesome video. I love the deep dive into specific years of a console. I was always a bigger fan of Ken Griffey Jrs Winning Run vs the original, but no denying that the original is an awesome iconic classic. What an amazing console the SNES was.
This was the year I was born. I love everything almost from 1994. But i have a certain love for Donkey Kong Country, I grew up on that, while everyone was on a n64, I was stuck with a snes. Great times.
Keep this series going ❤. I know y’all not into the handheld yet like to see one with gameboy/advance or psp whenever y’all get there or even the modern era with switch or ps4 they both had some great years
Donkey Kong Country, Earthbound, Super Metroid, FF VI, Super Punch Out, Earthworm Jim, Mega Man X, Demons Crest, Adventure of Batman and Robin, NBA Jam..just to name a few.
Love these nostalgic episodes. Little off topic but..i looked up Fortified Zone based off the recommendation in this episode and it looks dope! Never heard of this one. Thanks for sharing!
I’m one of those people who would say that Donkey Kong Country 1 was overrated. I’m pretty old and I preferred the original and that’s what Nintendo put out around that time! Donkey Kong 94 for the GB was a much more clever and lengthy game. Despite being a four color screen the stages had more verity than DK Country and was over all a much more engaging game. That and Yoshi’s Island easily ate DK Country’s lunch. It took a lot to impress teenaged me in 1994. But for me Genesis still did a lot of what Nintendo took a long time to do. Great Coverage as always!
Super NES is one of the few consoles I like where I don't have a favorite year. My favorite game for it is a tie between A Link To The Past and Star Fox which came out in different years. Just give me any year in its lifespan and I probably won't complain.
I remember going to Willow Video (BC Canada rental store) and Chaos in the Windy City was never in, but the box was always there like you could rent it. I always wanted to rent it but never could.
The love for Donkey Kong Country cannot be overstated. My first playthrough was on the GBA. I was always jealous of SNES owners due to this game (Genesis household here). Played it again the second it came out on the Switch Online Service. The game is perfect and genuinely challenging.
Man, I understand the love... somewhat. I went from 2600 which I barely understood how to hook up, and set modes and all that. But once you got into it, even on a basic level, you could have fun. Then it was NES. That thing rocked. Probably the best console ever made. Everything just worked. Super Nintendo never hit me the same way. What's that rhinestone thing? A bedazzler? It kinda felt like a cheap coat of paint when they really could have expanded. But that's just me. At ten I was too young to say get off my lawn, but I suppose a curmudgeon starts early. Snes brought a lot of people a lot of joy, and that's what is important.
Yes! I was more of a Sega Genesis guy but in 94 Nintendo brought the hammer! I picked up my SNES in 93 when the price dropped to $99, and I was so happy with 94! For me it was all about DKC and Mortal Kombat II. With DKC I was wondering why nothing on the Sega attachments or more powerful systems looked as good as that. And when I first heard Aquatic Ambience, it sounded like a CD player was somehow snuck into my SNES! I was also so happy that Nintendo stopped sanitizing their game that year! MK2 was epic! Finally, I was blown away by Super Mario All Stars because it was the first time I recalled seeing a full remaster of a previous game, a trend that continues to this day. 94 was indeed the best SNES year but 92 and 95 were strong contenders too.
Never owned a Nintendo system ( don’t remember why but my family had a Genesis) yet as soon as I saw Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2 I had to buy a SNES just to play these awesome games for the holidays in 95 !
1994 was super stacked! For wrestling games, there were not any good ones until the N64 console, there were a bunch of good ones for WWF and WCW. Also Earthworm Jim was a cool game from 94, but definitely better on the Genesis.
Don’t listen to the haters, you’re a staple in my subs! Ghoul Patrol name I think was more to influence parents at the time. They figured they should market a new game because mom would say “I already bought you zombies ate my neighbor”. Different era, different marketing. We thought about new releases differently.
LOL. "Nintendo tapes" I remember that. The cartridge was a new thing. Parents didn't know what they were. But they knew VHS tapes! Must be Nintendo tapes then! Also, whatever console you got first is what your parents called every console. My first console was an NES. So my NES, as well as my Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, XBOX etc were all referred to as Nintendo.
The controller wasn't that bad for NBA Jam. I never had a problem using the Genesis controller. That's the console I had it on. Also, if it bothered you that much there was always the 6 button controller. I would argue the button layout on the SNES was better, but the DPAD on the Genesis was WAY better.
@@GamingOffTheGrid I'm sure I'm biased a bit because I was ride or die with Sega from Genesis through Dreamcast and as a kid you adapt to things quicker and easier, like bad controls. Lol. I'm so used to the Sega controller for NBA Jam.
Late to the party, but you guys rock. Did you guys ever subscribe to or collect Ninteno Power? My parents thought it was a waste of money so my buddy would let me borrow some of his issues to read. I feel like I really missed out on that. Keep up the good work gentlemen.
Never subscribed as a kid because my parents wouldn't let me. I had a neighbor who had a few that I looked at. I since have got a pretty decent collection of them. So cool to read through.
I remember news clips of upset parents that there was no backwards compatibility. Sega had the Power Base converter but no one really cared about the SMS in the US. Kind of wild Nintendo never budged and only gave us the Super Game Boy. While their handheld systems always embraced their prior generation with backwards compatibility, it wasn't until the Wii that a home console would have it.
Heck yeah Donkey Kong Country! My first SNES Game I got as a kid and as of now, the only game i've ever completed a No Death Run. Aquatic Ambience is incredible but ask me on the right day and i might say Stickerbrush Symphony from DKC2 is just as good.
Off topic: have you heard the rumours and leaks that the new versions of the x box consoles will only be digital? No doc drives any more. If this is true it seems to me there will never be any more physical x box games in the future. Would be great to hear your thoughts in a video about that.
@@GamingOffTheGrid PS. Yesterday I heard that the FIFA games are no longer available on the online stores - at least Steam as the podcast explained - due to the new rights situation between EA and FIFA. A football series gone forever digitally?
The only thing I disagreed with is that I think NBA jam was better on the Genesis mostly for the fact that it had A LOT more of the announcer voice samples than the SNES version did and it had music, which the SNES version lacked.
Back in 95 someone gifted me a SNES and I thought it was ok ehm... gotta be honest here im not much of a Nintendo fan. Then in 97 I got PS1... the more mature Lara Croft, RE games, MGS... was more for me lol. SNES was alright. I used to like the helicopter Strike games. Donkey Kong Country was the first time graphics impressed me. So I have love for the SNES even if not my main thing.
Dude I totally get it. Same boat but it happened in Gen 6 for me. I was all about GTA and PS2. Nintendo seemed like it was for babies at the time. Later in life I realized all I missed on the Game Cube and Wii. Cheers 🍻
Have you guys played nba jam 2k22 or 23, I forget the year. I think it's based off the tournament edition. I haven't had the chance to play it myself, so I'm not sure which console it's based on.
I got about 7 SNES/Super Famicom controllers

NBA Live 95
Those Kiosk were so fun! I did also! 🍻
As a Sega kid I was secretly deeply jealous of SNES owners around that time, DK Country was so rad and Mk 2 was so much better on the SNES!
I think it went both ways though lots of owners of snes and genesis wouldnt admit it! The real jealously was the people who had both! 🍻
This is becoming one of my favorite channel to watch . Keep up the good work guys!
Really appreciate it. Glad you are enjoying the vids. We'll keep 'em coming. Cheers!
This was indeed a great you for the SNES! There is so many hits and so much variety. Super Game Boy is just icing on top of the cake!

1994 was super stacked! For wrestling games, there were not any good ones until the N64 console, there were a bunch of good ones for WWF and WCW. Also Earthworm Jim was a cool game from 94, but definitely better on the Genesis.
Earthworm Jim was definitely better on the Genesis. That’s why we didn’t mention it. It will get some love in our Genesis episode :)
2002 on GameBoy Advance would be a great year on a system to cover, I would have went broke if was old enough to have bought games for it back then!
Don’t listen to the haters, you’re a staple in my subs! Ghoul Patrol name I think was more to influence parents at the time. They figured they should market a new game because mom would say “I already bought you zombies ate my neighbor”. Different era, different marketing. We thought about new releases differently.
Thats a great way to look at it! We think it hurt there sales! 🍻
Yes!!!! Love this comment. My parents called everything Nintendo. They also called the controllers "paddles!" Good times :)
@@GamingOffTheGrid thank you, sir! Your channel hits me right in the nostalgia bone. Love it!
The controller wasn't that bad for NBA Jam. I never had a problem using the Genesis controller. That's the console I had it on. Also, if it bothered you that much there was always the 6 button controller. I would argue the button layout on the SNES was better, but the DPAD on the Genesis was WAY better.
I was just more speaking to being use to the SNES controller! Im sure people on the Genesis might say it about the SNES version! Both are amazing! 🍻
@@GamingOffTheGrid I'm sure I'm biased a bit because I was ride or die with Sega from Genesis through Dreamcast and as a kid you adapt to things quicker and easier, like bad controls. Lol. I'm so used to the Sega controller for NBA Jam.
I loved NHL 94! I actually had that one on Sega CD.
Nice! All time hockey game! 🍻
Yes! You did the video ❤
🍻
Yeah they finally hooked up the consumers! 🍻
Heck yeah Donkey Kong Country! My first SNES Game I got as a kid and as of now, the only game i've ever completed a No Death Run. Aquatic Ambience is incredible but ask me on the right day and i might say Stickerbrush Symphony from DKC2 is just as good.
Thats a good one to No Death Fun! DKC2 is epic also but the original will always have my heart! 🍻
What time on Friday is your 24 hour stream starting fellas?
09/29 6pm cst. Looking forward to it. Gonna be a good time. Cheers!
Awesome! Thank you!
Super Punch-Out!! and Donkey Kong Country are bangers for sure!
All timers in our opinion! 🍻
Off topic: have you heard the rumours and leaks that the new versions of the x box consoles will only be digital? No doc drives any more. If this is true it seems to me there will never be any more physical x box games in the future. Would be great to hear your thoughts in a video about that.
We have heard and plan to discuss in the near future. Probably a couple weeks out. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid PS. Yesterday I heard that the FIFA games are no longer available on the online stores - at least Steam as the podcast explained - due to the new rights situation between EA and FIFA. A football series gone forever digitally?
I got my first SNES Christmas 94.
Donkey Kong Country SAVED that console.
Nintendo used to own the Mariners, up until 2016. Missed opportunity for a Wii MLB exclusive.
Didnt know that! Thats awesome! 🍻
The only thing I disagreed with is that I think NBA jam was better on the Genesis mostly for the fact that it had A LOT more of the announcer voice samples than the SNES version did and it had music, which the SNES version lacked.
Thats probably fair! My nostalgia pulls me to the SNES version! 🍻
1993-1994 was an amazing era for SNES
Amazing and epic! 🍻
Cheers 🍻
Nailz loved the games from '94
Yes he did! 🍻
Video game commercials from the 90's were the best!! 😎👍🍻!!
💯 🍻
I GUESS I'LL GIVE 😊SUPER PUNCHOUT A GO THEN!
Well worth it! 🍻
Just bangers
🍻
Have you guys played nba jam 2k22 or 23, I forget the year. I think it's based off the tournament edition. I haven't had the chance to play it myself, so I'm not sure which console it's based on.
We havent! We will have to look into it! 🍻
1994 was a gud year for gaming period!!!
I was a sega kid but the snes had nice gems that year!
