I have the Alox Farmer that feathers, scrapes tinder, and sparks a ferro rod BUT the Walker is my backpacking knife Tiny and light, with a can/bottle opener, a blade, and a saw It is a great knife
The Victorinox is the best pocket knife I've ever come across, and I've carried a few in my time. I've had my VO Camper for over 30 years now and it's still going strong, bombproof and invaluable. The only sign of wear is the wording "Camper" and the VO cross logo which have worn away from the red scales. In my book the Victorinox is the No.1 pocket knife.🥇🏆
Hi Rob. Interesting to hear you like to hang stuff around your neck. I would find that very uncomfortable (even the lanyard I wear often bugs the hell out of me!) I prefer to hang my SAK on a loop of leather, with a snap-hook at the knife ring. So it doesn't lie at the bottom of my pocket, but hangs inside vertically. I've used this for decades. My Leatherman Wave sits in its pouch on my belt. Cheers!
Bought that very knife quite recently for the very purpose it's name would suggest, no wasted tools. Knife is an essential, the combi tool is handy to have for opening a beer or a tin of food if you're passing through a village with a small shop and they have nothing else, and although small the saw is very sharp and a much better emergency option than one of those commando saws or something like that IMO.
My first sak was a lumberjack I got from my dad in ca. '75. The lumberjack is a walker sans tweezers and toothpick. I still have it, but it shows its age and is retired for sentimental reasons. Some time ago (2019?) I built my own fire kit, based on a polymath spitfire kit. I removed the tinder components and replaced it with some waxed paper, a bic mini and a victorinox walker. So it now holds a firesteel, a sak, a mini bik, a telescopic bellows and some (emergency) tinder Last used it over the weekend!
Rob, great video. I think I remember the Swiss army batoning... Folded at 90 degrees I think lol. Good to see you in the woods. I love all my victorinoxs. My grandfather got me hooked. Thanks for the mental floss.
Thats weird. I just ordered a walker last night. First time i'd noticed that model, i dont normally buy SAK's because most of them have things on them i wouldn't use, but i got the walker just for its blade and saw, nice and simple. Just something to carry when out walking the dog mostly. You never know what you'll find.
Hi Rob☺ nice video mate, handy little SAK, +ferro rod just right to get you a fire when you don't have your main kit, no excuse not to carry it, and I'm gonna do the same thing, cheers mate, stay safe, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart.uk.
I only discovered the Walker a few months ago, only really started liking SAK's last year, I bought a Swiss champ back in '89 and I still have it. It was used with a MOD knife then a Cold steel recon Scout back in the early '90s. "Before Scandi"
Great Rob. You're feathering technique should be made a standard for everyone on UA-cam. Probably prefer the Alox Farmer but it's gone hugely back up in price since December.
@@RobEvansWoodsman If you release the lock on the blade, you can do more than light batoning with it. I do that with the Rangergrip. It's an old Wenger version - had it for many years and haven't broken it yet. And if I did break it, so what -- it's a Swiss Army Knife, I'll just buy another. It's not like I'm in a survival situation where it's life or death.
After we all get over "survival knives" "scandi knives" and whatever fad is being thrown at us we come full circle and realised that the humble SAK is an excellent tool (when used sensibly). Thanks for watching and commenting.
Heyyyy Rob.... Decent little knife looks like!! Would like to know if U had sharpened it to your standards or was it still factory please?? How is the steel for holdin an edge in their pocket knives please?? Nice to see U again... ATB...Stay well & TY!
I bought a new pack in November which I put in my last campout video, I also have a Karrimor sabre 60-80 (old model) Sabre 45 (old model) , Berghaus Cyclops roc moded with rocket pouches (probably 100l) and a lk35 modified. Lighter packs if I'm walking Gossamer gear gorilla and a Berghaus dart 43.
I've got the two. I prefer the woodsman anorak but that's a personal choice. Quality is very good , the pilgrim smock is comfortable, full of features but I find it a little long and the chest pocket buttons are too big and fiddly.
@@RobEvansWoodsman I've not used just cotton wool but those little emergency wax cotton things they get the job done even though it was hammering it down. Lol. Was happy to have them then ☺

you have such soft wood here in south africa everything is like brick. great video
"I thought it was load of crap, this is better!" been a while Rob, glad I'm back lol.
Nice to hear from you mate.
SAK , don't leave home without it ! I like the Trekker and the Huntsman ! Bob/Grizz 🐻
I have a huntsman.
Very nice review. And nice accent. Even better than my german one 🙃
You can batten with a sak, you just have to have the handle 90° to the blade to protect the hinge.
👍👍Cheers Rob , great small knife certainly has a place in everyone's kit 👍👍✌👌🙏

Give me a SAK over a friction folder any day, I really don't understand the hype with them.

Carried a SAK Walker since they first came out, have a firesteel.com attached to it by a quick release. Well done as always.....ATB M8

Nice technique for striking the rod, teeth down on the saw blade striking at the top feathers which are nice and thin to catch a spark.
I didn't come up with that unfortunately.
Can't take the credit!

👍Great as always Rob 👌
I do like the way you don’t mince your words Rob 😆
I don't like sugar coated bull shit so I wont give it out.
Nice to see what can be done with a little penknife
I can always make the most out of a small tool 😜
@@RobEvansWoodsman 👀🤣
A SAK will stand light to moderate bat0ning, no problem. I've done it lots over the years.
I came under fire from a guy when I reviewed the Forrester, it was really light battoning, I'm just covering my back mate.

@@RobEvansWoodsman My pleasure. And yes, Victorinox makes awesome stuff. I’d take a SAK over a Gerber or Leatherman multitool most days. :)

Welcome on board mate, plenty to catch up on, early vids are a bit shit by the way.
Rob, it’s your knife and equipment, do what you want with it. Pay no attention to the trolls.
Some guys just have to say their piece mate, can't they piss off and pick on one of the "fort building crowd!"😂

Can't really understand why Victorinox isn't producing their special run Bushcrafter model. Minimalist all needed essentials in 62 grams..
I was unaware that they had developed one.
