the videogames industry is suffering the same problem with heavy focus on graphics and visuals over gameplay and story.

Then you have RDR2 which managed to have some of the most photorealistic models and environments paired with probably one of the richest stories of the American West in any medium.

To me it’s movies like Gladiator and Warrior that have the most replay value to me. The Crow is my favorite movie of all time and I’ve probably watched it hundreds of times over the years. It doesn’t need all the eye candy, it just needs to be able to draw you in with a good story. They don’t know how to tell a good story anymore and that’s the problem.

I love that Saw's in the video. That only took 1-1.2 million to put together and made roughly 100x it's budget at the box office while launching a franchise that would go on to spawn multiple movies that mostly made back all of their budgets multiple times over. That needs to be a thing again.

I still say LOTR trilogy did every single thing "correctly"... Had spectacle sure.. but had amazing characters and acting, insane attention to detail, a timeless but still interesting plot. I mean damn. No franchise has done it better.

Low budget films are doing well in the Academy Awards. A24 Studios has produced many of the past Best Motion Picture awards. I think once the dust settles, the studios that don’t go bankrupt will start to consider lowering their production budgets.

It's basically the same situation like there was in the 60's. Big spectales, big budgets, a lot of losses in huge financial problems for Hollywood. History likes to repeat itself.

Out of ten mid budget projects they can find at least one or two good writers to promote. I'm convinced writers for these studios work within a very strict template constructed by the executives on what has been successful in the past and they are also hired to figure out dialogues for their inserts, no wonder there is no creativity or common sense left. At least with more projects they cannot be as hands on as they would be with one or two big productions.

I think the writers lack creativity the previous writers had or these studios are scared to let these writers be creative and forcing them to write woke off of recycled movies that are to expensive and to long

Kinda hilarious watching people whom thought they were special, unique and talented are now getting super scared of AI. They realized writers are going to be even easier to replace by AI than any blue collar worker they told to 'learn to code.' Cherry on top is the AI will produce something BETTER. The fact this writer strike also has a ban on AI says it all.

    200 million dollar developed movie
100 to 150 million marketing/promotional budget on top
    350 million total
40% cut goes to Western theaters, 50 to 60% to international theaters, 75% to theaters in China (as per 2012 agreement)
Not to mention now you got streaming model where the residual profit is drastically less than physical media (BR/DVD)
so now you got a situation where it needs to hit close to a billion to make a profit. Not a sustainable business model.
