I don't care what anyone says, as a black man I, and everybody I know who watched Tropic Thunder, found Robert Downey Jr's character to be the best part of that entire movie.
Not a single person I know was offended by RDJ playing a black man, hell I was even impressed how well he pulled that look off tbh.
That movie is pure gold and is considered a damn comedy classic as far as movies are concerned.
Fuck anyone who tried to say that movie is racist, RDJ's scene in the trailer was the reason my entire family even went to the movies to see Tropic Thunder.

Truthfully, as a biracial person, I would’ve loved to have seen the true depiction of the Agoje warriors and Dahomey in film format. It could’ve been an interesting way of depicting and sharing history that most probably aren’t aware of. It could’ve been from the perspective of a slave taken from their village by the Dahomey and the terror they faced by being enslaved by people who they assumed were on their side. There could’ve been a very real, visceral, fearful and human perspective and take on this portion of African history that most people don’t know or don’t want to know. Much like how 12 Years a Slave showed the horrors of history. Stories are how we learn and grow to never make these mistakes again and take those who committed them accountable so that they can improve and grow.
Instead we are being spoonfed agendas and history os being chickenscratched and overwritten to satiate the needs of people who want to believe that they are right.

I think part of it is how America gives so much emphasis on race. Every news piece and every study and report has to involve race like black and brown, Asian, Hispanic, etc. compared to white. Movies and TV shows featuring Chinese families are celebrated as "Asian" representation instead of Chinese Americans. South Asians are grouped with East Asians as just Asians while Middle Easterners and North Africans are grouped with whites on the census. Race division in America has nothing to do with culture and heritage at all and that's what makes minorities overlook their heritages. Now everybody wants to dress in European costumes in American productions about historical European stories and fantasy because if white Americans can do that so can we. Lupita is from Africa so she is different. I've read comments by black people from Africa and they are perplexed by the race swapping trend in Hollywood. People across the globe are perplexed too. Like why would Asians be in like Bridgerton or House of the Dragons for example. Only minorities in America don't see anything wrong.

THERE ARE NO PROSPERING MARTIARCHIES EVER! Not in history, and not now! All of this strong woman bs is just that. It's a male power fantasy applied to women! Women try to be men but they fail, and then they wonder why it doesn't get views, why it doesn't work, why they wake up sad and alone drowning in a bottle of wine and a handful of Xanax at 50, with 50 cats to eat their corpse 4 hours after they meet their sad pathetic inevitable lonely death... Women should stop trying to be warriors, and be mothers! They should stop running laws and countries and they should run a house! Women always had immense decisional power through their men. Man always listened to women. Man always simped for women... It's in our nature to try to offer them the best we can... This isn’t recent, it’s been going on for half a century. It is largely a corrupted derivative of the New Hollywood Quentin Tarantino is referring to. We are just in a dark wave of this. As I say time and again though, Hollywood has immense competition that it barely acknowledges - it’s here, it’s TikTok. While the production values aren’t up to modern Hollywood standards unlimited, it’s virtually unlimited and free - and most importantly, there are a lot of creators who can tell a story, albeit a short one. We’ve come full circle - they’re the Nickelodeon that kicked off Hollywood in the first place 120 years ago. These grab the attention of people and would be a massive threat even if Hollywood made the best movies ever - and the most astute insiders of that industry are beginning to realize it. That, by the way, it why awards shows, keep losing viewers - people aren’t interested anymore in watching an industry show anymore, Hollywood long ago lost its magic. It’s just another industry whose glory days are over, and is facing a permanent decline. This current wave of woke merely exacerbates this.

Love the video! Totally agree! However, one thing, the Peter Pan and Wendy thing was actually the original title of the story. I think it may have just been called Peter and wendy (the novel version anyway). Other than that awesome video!

I’ve seen three movies since End Game, two Spider-Man movies and Black Widow. The habit is so broken that I doubt I’ll every go to the theatre again, unless it’s a one screen vintage theatre in a small town and a great movie.

Your point on how universally tangible lessons make movies great is so spot on. You can do movies with minority led casts, you can tell minority stories, but as soon as the lesson of these stories is to demean anyone who doesn't fit within that minority the story is a moot point. Personally, that's why Everything Everywhere All At Once did so well this year and it feels like one of the first true great Hollywood films in a long time. Because they're an example of doing a story correctly by evoking a universally relatable issue of parental rebellion and worrying about not having done enough with your life by way of the specific setting of an asian immigrant led laundromat. The setting to a great story should be niche, not your story's lesson.

While I don't entirely disagree with this, Hollywood has always changed historical narratives, the main difference between then and now is that they have always changed narratives to create American war propaganda and to make the US come out looking squeaky clean and heroic. Take Argo for instance, they make it look like the operation was all US lead, writing Canadian involvement almost entirely out of the movie. Americans changing history is not new. No big deal, but when you consider how people 'know' history because of what they 'learn' in movies it makes you think. They have always and will always make war propaganda first and foremost which makes me question the whole 'too woke' narrative as an over simplification. But personally I will always want to watch movies that are politically incorrect, shocking etc... But also, who is actually coming for Tropic Thunder, I have never heard of this... likely a small but loud group who don't get it.

Indeed. The sad feeling lately that it seems to be more fashionable to be safe and boring for the sake of appeasing the potential mobs that come out if you dare have a product that has even the slightest bit of offense. Indeed I too feel there have been very few movies from the last 5 years that I have really enjoyed because of it.

I never watched Tropic Thunder because I couldn't stand Ben Stiller. Now it seems like all the comedy actors I couldn't stand before are the based ones today, and now I must go watch Tropic Thunder just to stick it to the woke. 😎
