WOW you sir get a like! I just recently decided to get my old 360 out and it started Red ringing. I knew it had to do with the old power brick but I was afraid it was completely bad. After going through NUMEROUS videos and searching for replacement videos online I come across yours. Turns out the connection is just loose between the xbox and power brick and so when I held it into the xbox when powering on it worked fine and continued to do so! I wish I could give a super like or something for you actually knowing what your talking about! Thanks a lot sir!!!
Had a Falcon revision 360 in 2008 that was able to display the 4-light Ring. Doesn't really matter if the console has HDMI or not - what matters is if the console's default video output is via the AV port (aka you don't use HDMI for anything). If you use HDMI for video, then yeah, you should never get the 4 red lights even if the AV cable is being used for audio.
I just knew that this channel is the one that I needed to summon in order to fix the RROD ( red ring of death ) of my xbox 360. Thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooo much 👊🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋😎
Thank you so much, my console red ringed today and I got really scared. I watched multiple videos trying to fix and nothing was working. Thanks to your video I realized that the power bar was the problem! I am so grateful for that. Thanks a million
Thought my xbox was a paper weight. I never thought to look at the power supply since it did turn on. Saw the red light and bought a new. It now works. Thanks!
you're such a smart kid. I was having a 4 ring of death and the issue was my power cords not plug in completely. I almost throw away my xbox360. Thanks for this video tutorial.
I’ve had an Xbox 360 for 11 years now and it red ringed like this. I just checked this video and this prevented me from having a f***ing heart attack. Thx so much!
in his case, its the power supply. Because the tray wont open, that means its not getting power, and if any other parts were messed up it would still have power.
Just had a similar experience. (2007 model) Had the red ring (3 red). and disc drawer would not open, you would hear it try to open, then it would go red ring. I tried the eject and sync button, the red ring went away, leaving the normal green center/ power light. Disc drawer opened, and closed twice, in response to pressing the eject button, then wouldn't open (the red ring did not come back) 5 or so more eject button presses, and the drawer opened. I loaded a disc, got the Xbox home screen on the screen/tv and a "reading " message on the top left icon/button, then shortly thereafter an "open tray" message on that icon/button. The tray was not open, but the tray still functions, if I use the eject button. But as of yet , the red ring has not re-appeared. So that's where I'm at. A little progress but not quite back yet. **UPDATE** Had it playing a music CD, flawlessly. It tried to play a movie/DVD, after 2 or 3 seconds, the screen seized/locked up and displayed a checker board overlay over the entire screen, then went REDEYE. I got the REDEYE, gone again, with the eject, sync button method. Tried the music CD again, it played it the first time, but on the second try, it did the checker board overlay that it had previously done with the DVD, and went REDEYE. Also had some other weird anomalies. I tried using the console in the vertical position/orientation, it would lose connection with the monitor/TV, but would work in horizontal and, upside-down vertical position. Taking a break on this console for now. Gonna watch some more UA-cam diagnosis videos.
I am sitting here at 2am wondering if I could get my old xbox to work and I find you. I have yet to try your method but I will edit this to say if it works
thanks for the good video bro makes the red ring seem less terrifying. waiting for an auction 360 to arrive and a 2nd hand power supply. preparing myself for a red ring
Correction to know. Orange doesn't mean a problem on your brick, it means it is on standby mode, which is that the console isn't on, so it isn't a problem..
thanks for that video, which actually made me fix my console, it had a red light on the power brick for about a year and after plugging it out and back in its working now, thanks!
Thanks for the video, I had the three fields RROD and a red light on the power supply. Got the 0-0-0-1 code and tried with a different power supply that I borrowed from a friend. First try - same thing, second - also same thing. On the third try however it booted just fine, then I tried it again with my original power supply and now that works too. So now I don't know what to think, but I'm glad it works.
Watching for the fun of it. My Xbox froze so many times yet I never got a red ring. I thought I would each time but when I turn it off and back on it normally starts up lol
Great tip about the power brick staying orange when the console is turned on means it's bad. Thought my Resident Evil 360 had gone bad even though it hadn't be used in a long time. Hopefully a new power brick will get it working.
If you have a retro xbox 360 (AV only), and you get the 4 red lights, you need to check the connection. The inside of the AV adapter might be broken. The way I fixed it, I just unplugged it and plugged it back in. If this doesn't work, try the hammer method because it can also mean your Xbox is bricked.

Hi. I have a fat Xbox 360 (arcade version with a 20GB HDD and no HDMI) which I didn't use for some years because I also have a Xbox360 slim with a Kinect sensor. So, some weeks ago I tried to connect the fat Xbox which was fine when I put it away, and I got the 3 RRODs! I already opened the console and thought I would need to heat the chipsets but now I think that the problem might be with the power suply. If I press eject with the console off, the tray doesn't open. The fans start to move but stop less than a second after. Same thing if I power on the console with power button. The led in the power supply is fixed yellow all the time. I can't remember if it should be green after the console being turned on. Are there any repairs for power supply? Or should I get a used one? Do you think that the power supply is causing my 2 RRODs? Regards.
I forgot to say that the power supply lights green for a second but as fans stop and 3 ROD blinks it goes orange again. It is green for less than a second. Only if I had a friend who could borrow a power supply... But all of them already sold the fat xboxs. The only ones still with xbox 360 have Slims....
bro, thank you so much, i was just about to get rid of my xbox 360 because of the red ring of death, but it just turned out that it was a problem with the power brick and not the console itself. thank you, your a lifesaver.
it does make sense cause the pins get dirty and may need cleaning with contact cleaner the power pins are cheap as well the plug needs to be seated tight
Also common misinformations I keep seeing are that rrod related to gpu (e74 or 1022)is caused by heat inside unit or since ms did not make X-Clamps press heatsink way it squeezes graphic chip. It is not. If very lucky it is caused by bad av cable. If it's gpu related then it is caused by cheap low quality lead free solder used on early xbox 360 models and it was heat and cooldown cycles that caused it to come loose evetually not overheating. Seen same happen on phat ps3 and some older desktop/laptop graphic cards. For it only good fix is get chip reballed by professional or proper reflow. Towel or fan jamming trick is not reflow and it works by warping mainboard and making temporaly contact and also causes permanent unfixable damage to mainboard. Replacing X-Clamp with bolts will temporary fix cracked bga connection but also causes board to warp and risk for gpu to crack. So better not believe or try online tricks to fix e74 caused by graphic chip and better rather take it to professional for repairs.
The reason that the power failure occurs is because on the power cord there is 6 pins and there is a 12V 16A rail, 5V 1A rail, and the two last pins are used for signaling the power supply to turn on I think that when you loosen the connections from the power cord the pins that signal the power supply to turn on get disconnected, causing the power supply to shut one of the two rails off and disconnecting power from the disk drive, etc and that is why the power light starts blinking because if the DVD drive is dead the power light blinks (sometimes) Sorry if this is long
I removed the hard drive last night when my console did this, but it didn’t seem to have any effect. I left it unplugged until I could get back to it today, and removed the hard drive again and the console booted. Powered it down, reattached hard drive and booted fine! Which is strange because my power supply was doing exactly what a faulty power supply would do. Glad I didn’t buy that one on eBay!
Thank you so much! This video is a really good reference. I got a old Xbox 360 (Model just like yours) and I thought it was the Console, but its actually the Power supply.
Dude just put it away in a closet and spend a couple bucks on a newer model. That old model is a useless pile. You have more financial leverage owning a 12 pack of quilted toilet paper.
I was playing forza horizon, then it suddenly freezed then crashed leaving my tv screen blank, I look on the xbox and it has the 3 red lights. We tried what you said, but the ring seems to not go away. What to do? 😇
This video is designed to help diagnose the issue, and what is causing the RRoD. If the error code leaves you with a hardware issue on the console itself, then you'd have to do your research as to how to repair or replace the system.
It's not the model number or version of the dvd drive the motherboard on the dvd drive is married to the board of that specific xbox so you would have to swap the motherboard with the new one
Thanks dude! I followed all the steps and was able to revive a 2006 phat xbox I got for free from a friend that just bought a new one after the RROD. The only difference was that i removed the xclamps and used a screw and washer repair kit i bought years ago
Manny Castillo no problem! Glad I could help! Plus 360 games are dirt cheap now so for pretty much the price of 1 new game and you got a full collection! Enjoy!
Hey man, could you help me out? I pressed the sync and the eject button three times, but instead of having 1 flashing red ring, it had 3 flashing red rings. Does this still mean that the power supply is messed up or is the system toasted? Thanks :)
Xbox 360 they can put red wing if they if they get ring Wings they might die the battery if it if it don't works then try to unplug your things then if you turn it on again it will not come red ring but when you do a video about that then it will get rid of ring and the man was doing Red Wings but don't put Red Wings it will my dog battery for every a lot lot lot lot times then when you turn it off
sorry about this but your xbox might have some components fried if it wasn't in a power surge protecter... soooooo yeaaaa ask somebody for a replace or something I guess
I've got a 2008 hdmi falcon model that I bought online for £4 and a couple quid postage. I think the previous owner didn't plug it in properly and didn't check the code. I remember it it arrived and I tested it and the system worked first time and it has never got rrod just the plug issue. I got it almost 3 years ago. Still works
Thanks I got one out of the dump when I went in to the Electronics Ben I seen a Xbox 360 and the control for it was there and the and the chords for it was there and there was was to games for it one was in the case and the other one was in the Xbox I popped the front off and stuck. a paper clip in a hole to open it it and the game was in it the power brick has a Orange light on it now I can buy a new one for it and I can use or sale it
Video was helpful, thanks I have red ring, I did what you did to get the code. 2 of the lights came on for the code. I know you mentioned overheating with 2 red lights. By any chance do you have any recommendations on what I can do to fix it. Thank you
You can also learn this too by reading the manual for the system it looks like he did good on you laddie because he’s exactly right but I never understood the code thing at all
3 rings and 0001 code can be also caused by blown caps like in one of my consoles. PSU is good, i checked it on another console and it worked without any problems
I have never got the RRoD. However, my Xbox 360 has been acting weird, so I feel like I may get it soon. Edit: After watching this bid, I thought hmm, I am gonna play Xbox 36p now. And I turn it on to find those STUPID 3 red lights. Right after I said I was probably gonna get it soon. Edit 2: I watched this, got the code, and found out my Xbox had a circuit board malfunction that caused the system to red ring. Luckly I was able to get it fixed. But the console STILL gave me 3 red lights. WHY!! Edit 3: Ok, my 2nd RRoD was a completely busted power supply unit. I replaced it. Then power it on but have me 1 red light. Should I just buy a new Xbox? Edit 4: Ok, RRoD 3 was caused by a disk drive error. A part of a disk get stuck in the drive, causing my RRoD 3. Now I turned it on, and...... WORKING AGAIN. However, I lost some apps (circuit board fix caused this, I think). The total cost: only $348.59. Total time: About 2 weeks.
I have never had the RRoD on my 360, or anything like that... But I have had my controller (white) go into (i guess) the RRoD, none of the lights were green on my controller, instead all 4 were red, but then I took out the battery and put it back in and I've never had that problem again... If I had screen shots of it I would of shown proof of it, but since I was like 8 or 9 at the time and I didn't have a phone or camera, I don't have any proof of it happening.
The power brick thing isn't quite right. If there is a power problem in the console (e.g. capacitors, mosfets,...) the power brick will also turn orange 😉
I still see a LOT of misinformation on this issue, I have "repaired" a LOT of 360 hardware when the console was still relevant. There is absolutely no fix. Only measures you can take to extend its life, a re-ball will by far last the longest, maybe a year or two, but eventually, every Xbox 360 manufactured before 2009 will suffer a catastrophic CPU or GPU failure. Preventative measures such as mounting a heatsink fan or altering the X-clamp setup can help. But this issue is created by a design flaw with the chips used. Originally was thought to be caused by heat, but it wasn't, the issue was caused by the type of BGA used. It doesn't like getting hot, then cold repeatedly, it results in cracks in the solder. This is why applying heat by either wrapping it in a towel or using a heat gun directly on the affected chip appeared to fix the issue. For collectors who want an original "fat" 360, the "Jasper" board revision is the one you want, by this point in 2009, Microsoft had fully solved this issue
Agreed. All my jaspers are still going strong. Falcons are okay in a pinch, but definitely stay away from Xenon and Zephyr boards, though I do have a Zephyr that's good, but it,nevrr gets used
Really the only fix for a gpu issue it to swap the gpu. Also, overheating the console does not reflow the solder, the console will not get hot enough to melt the lead free solder and even if you could I'd kill your xbox. The problem is the underfill. And late falcons are also reliable
1 red light: E74 2 red lights: Over Heating 3 red lights: General Hardware Fail 4 red lights: AV Cable is unplugged I tried to match the amount of rings to the amount of words I put.
Back in 2014 my Xbox 360 red ringed. The power supply light was red- but I didn't understand what that meant at the time so I replaced the whole console.
Intellitech Studios man can you help me... I have 3 flashing red lights (rrod) and one green(at the center) but sometimes console works perfect and sometimes have 3 red lights. Its not the power supply and I think its cooling and I think to get more faster fans for more cooling. It is good idea?
Hey what about if you have and Xbox Slim and it's not the power like how to we check the code if we have a slim also what about error codes that show up on the tv I have HDMI so it's not that cause I got error code E74 E79 and I think E64 or something 2 of those I got on purpose by unplugging the cord a bit and taking out my hard drive it's E79 that I don't know what caused it...
Ok I'm missing something when your doing the diagnosis. You push the sync button & the eject button in order to start the sequence of giving you the code, but what are you pressing off camera, to switch from one digit (or whatever) of the code to the next? The code seems to be 4 "digits or characters" long, what are you pressing to get from one to the next please?

My working 360 has orange light on psu so not sure that info is accurate.
+Mike Clarke the psu is always orange when the console is off, if it's on with the orange light is where the problem is
Well that's really useful for diagnostics when the console won't turn on, good job microsoft no wonder they lose billions every console they release.

bro, thank you so much, i was just about to get rid of my xbox 360 because of the red ring of death, but it just turned out that it was a problem with the power brick and not the console itself. thank you, your a lifesaver.
it does make sense cause the pins get dirty and may need cleaning with contact cleaner the power pins are cheap as well the plug needs to be seated tight
The video that keeps on giving. Just fixed an Xbox 360 that was modded thanks to your video.
Not true. The cause of the red ring is flip chip failure because of the wrong underfill being used, not the solder
thanks this is the only video of many that was actually helpful. it was bad news for me but at least i know. 🙏🏻
tried starting up my xbox but it had 3 red lights, the 'brick' is showing red so now atleast I know what the problem is.
Thanks for the video.
Same problem
What’s the difference between the red or orange light?
I am still struggling with red ring.. Any advice for me... I have even opened and cleaned the box but still showing red ring
The reason that the power failure occurs is because on the power cord there is 6 pins and there is a 12V 16A rail, 5V 1A rail, and the two last pins are used for signaling the power supply to turn on
I think that when you loosen the connections from the power cord the pins that signal the power supply to turn on get disconnected, causing the power supply to shut one of the two rails off and disconnecting power from the disk drive, etc and that is why the power light starts blinking because if the DVD drive is dead the power light blinks (sometimes)
Sorry if this is long
My xbox flashes red lights.
I turn it on.
It turns green
Then it flashes red 8-10 times.
Then shuts off.
Orange battery.
My Xbox has the 3 red light but I hear no fan spinning when power on the console?
Unplug for 20 min. I tried on mine. It worked👍
Check the power supply
I removed the hard drive last night when my console did this, but it didn’t seem to have any effect. I left it unplugged until I could get back to it today, and removed the hard drive again and the console booted. Powered it down, reattached hard drive and booted fine! Which is strange because my power supply was doing exactly what a faulty power supply would do. Glad I didn’t buy that one on eBay!
Thank you so much! This video is a really good reference. I got a old Xbox 360 (Model just like yours) and I thought it was the Console, but its actually the Power supply.

Link to my video on Comparing Xbox Dashboards!
Great information, was able to use the code to determine my rrod was caused by bad connection at RAM, now to learn how to reflow the ram.
+Mark Burlingame glad I could help! 👍
Intellitech Studios, Thank you very much bro! 🤟🏻
@FordTaurusfan 2020 U need somebody with a reflow or reball station.
@@IntellitechStudioswhere do you read the code please ? Thanks
If I have a orange light on my power brick and I have 3 does that mean I change the brick or no
If it’s red it’s glitched or your power brick has gone bad
It's not the model number or version of the dvd drive the motherboard on the dvd drive is married to the board of that specific xbox so you would have to swap the motherboard with the new one
This video needs to be at the top of the search results
It is
Thanks dude!
Enjoy!
The bolt mod isn’t a real fix
I have 3 rings of death and my fans are not working:(helpp pls
this guy is brave and smart
We was going 10 year solid till today and you helped thank you .
Really struggling here
Hey man, could you help me out? I pressed the sync and the eject button three times, but instead of having 1 flashing red ring, it had 3 flashing red rings. Does this still mean that the power supply is messed up or is the system toasted? Thanks :)
The code that you get will tell you the issue
I have no idea why this was in my recommended, but I’m not disappointed in the slightest
I think I am kind of lucky,I have a original Xbox 360 made 2009 and a Slim made 2011 and NEVER had the RROD
Hylian Link In the Castlez indeed
I have always Feared the RROD but I liked the video so I one gets the RROD I can come back to this video.
Xbox 36
Xbox 360
Xbox 360 they can put red wing if they if they get ring Wings they might die the battery if it if it don't works then try to unplug your things then if you turn it on again it will not come red ring but when you do a video about that then it will get rid of ring and the man was doing Red Wings but don't put Red Wings it will my dog battery for every a lot lot lot lot times then when you turn it off
what can i do if i have error code 0102?
My Xbox just turned off while I was playing, and it went to the Red Ring of Death. It turns out it was a power surge.
sorry about this but your xbox might have some components fried if it wasn't in a power surge protecter... soooooo yeaaaa ask somebody for a replace or something I guess
that happend to me on a jasper then i just unpluged it and pliged it back in and its working fine.
Cheers for the video, came in very handy all these years later :)
Code is 0020 what’s that?
GPU_RST_DONE signal missing after seqUnReset time passed, replace GPU
I've got a 2008 hdmi falcon model that I bought online for £4 and a couple quid postage. I think the previous owner didn't plug it in properly and didn't check the code. I remember it it arrived and I tested it and the system worked first time and it has never got rrod just the plug issue. I got it almost 3 years ago. Still works
The only time it did that is when I smacked it when it kept freezing on black ops 2 and it still works
I don't even have an xbox but this guys ranting is so oddly entertaining
Thank you for making this video, I got a refurbished original xbox and I'm definitely using this guide just incase it happens
I found a 2006 Xbox 360 on eBay that said rrod and it had no av cables so I got it and got av cables, and it worked!
Easy RRoD fix: Get a PlayStation
I'm jk, I like both.
OOOO this wor- *ps3 shows yellow light*
Thanks! This was helpful. Turns out my old xbox had the AC jack to the powerbrick loose.
Thanks I got one out of the dump when I went in to the Electronics Ben I seen a Xbox 360 and the control for it was there and the and the chords for it was there and there was was to games for it one was in the case and the other one was in the Xbox I popped the front off and stuck. a paper clip in a hole to open it it and the game was in it the power brick has a Orange light on it now I can buy a new one for it and I can use or sale it
Nice!
Video was helpful, thanks I have red ring, I did what you did to get the code. 2 of the lights came on for the code. I know you mentioned overheating with 2 red lights. By any chance do you have any recommendations on what I can do to fix it. Thank you
HIS FACE IS PRICELESS
You can also learn this too by reading the manual for the system it looks like he did good on you laddie because he’s exactly right but I never understood the code thing at all
Thanks for this video, I have an Xbox 360 E that has never had RROD but this is very accurate and helpful for anyone that does get it
When it comes to overheating the thermal paste might have gone bad and you might need to open it up to apply new thermal paste to it like mine
3 rings and 0001 code can be also caused by blown caps like in one of my consoles.
PSU is good, i checked it on another console and it worked without any problems
Also the PSU had a red light when i turned on the console with blown capacitors (2 capacitors blown from what i remember)
Who is watching from 2020 yall the ring of death is back i found it on my xbox series x but what ever he said worked for me thank you!!!!!
Crazy, glad you got it worked out!
Lmao it would have been cheaper to just buy a new xbox and take the old hard drive memory unit and put it in the new one
The n64 should be the one on the top shelf. Move that junk over.
Elvis Preston old ass boy
thanks it really helped
i had a 360. red ring and it was just a power supply issue and i didn't know that i almost bought another 360
you saved me❤
I have a xbox 360 halo edition with 2 red lights what's wrong
overheating, try cooling it down and allowing plenty of ventilation.
It’s *hot*
Ventilation power is low allow XBOX 360 system to cool
OJ Fargo overheat?
OJ Fargo Simply overheated.
Thanks for making this this will be helpful for my Xbox 360 s
1 red light: E74
2 red lights: Over Heating
3 red lights: General Hardware Fail
4 red lights: AV Cable is unplugged
I tried to match the amount of rings to the amount of words I put.
Smart!
Back in 2014 my Xbox 360 red ringed. The power supply light was red- but I didn't understand what that meant at the time so I replaced the whole console.
lol i missed the old start up screen
Team FORTNITEYT you're gonna love the next video
Intellitech Studios man can you help me...
I have 3 flashing red lights (rrod) and one green(at the center) but sometimes console works perfect and sometimes have 3 red lights.
Its not the power supply and I think its cooling and I think to get more faster fans for more cooling.
It is good idea?
Fresh what's the secondary code? The video refers on how to get a secondary code and I can determine what is wrong

What you see is exactly what you do. I'm not pressing anything off camera. The code changes based on what your Xbox is doing.
Can I message you somewhere I really need help
do you have discord?
Intellitech Studios guess he doesn’t have discord
I guess so

@@lilmeme3851 what's your issue?
my xbox 360 gets the code 0003 but it doesn't turn on the console and doesn’t take out the dvd. do you think it's the power cord?
Yes if it's plugged in properly then it's the power supply
