I'm working on a new model for myself and am trying to figure out how you moved the faces and sculpted them so that they fit in the gap in the haka head. I'm new to blender and am trying to figure out keys to make it smooth like you did before connecting the vertices.
i'm currently learning blender atm so stupid question what keys/ how are you bending and moving the neck like that to line up the vertices, you didn't include the keys at the bottom left till after you merged the mesh so i'm lost trying to figure that out
I love the tutorial thank you so much!! I have a question, when I line the vertices up and merge at center i get these strange shadows around them! just wondering if there is any advice to fix this or to prevent it from happening!
What should you do if your shapekeys get all weird? My avatar's neck moves now whenever I have any of the mouth movements or body mods and I don't know how to fix it other than going through each individual shape key.
select the vertices that are being effected, and sadly you will have to go through every shape key and press ctrl + V and "blend from shape" and make sure the tab in the lower left corner, "add" is unticked!
I keep getting these weird shadows once i merger the verts. Ik it's not the normals or the smoothing. I can only assume it's the geometry but I have no clue where to start in regards to fixing it. Using amelia head and rp base. Pls help lol
it always alwaysss takes a lot of tweaking and back and forth til it looks right c: it looks a lot easier in this tut because i already had one other attempt before this (but messed up the rig, so had to start over)
You should never ever use "Fix Model" on a rig made for VRC. It's only for models being converted from other platforms like MMD. This is straight from the CATS developers themselves. Please don't recommend things to newbies that will just break their models for no reason and make things harder on them.
@@DarcyFBX "what works for you" doesn't matter. Don't you get that? You're making a tutorial for NEW people to avatar creation. What you're doing is sloppy and harmful to people who are trying to learn. The newest fork of CATS even renamed that button to "Fix MMD Model" and BURIED it under the MMD Tools section of the plugin. Why do you think they did this? They also state in the FAQ that it should never be used for a normal VRC model. Go read it for yourself. It's very telling that you choose to be snarky and argumentative instead of just admitting that you're wrong and your methods are outdated. If you personally choose to live in the past and do things wrong then that's up to you. But don't try to pass this off as current and valid ways to merge armatures when you're making a tutorial.
@@DarcyFBX thank you for the reminder that you're a toxic control freak bitch. This is exactly why most people in the avatar community hates your guts. Grow up
so glad someone is teaching this!!. had to learn it myself a while back.
i taught myself how to do it last year and just saw a bit of misinfo about how hard it is x) so thought id share my knowledge
I keep coming back to this tutorial whenever I make an avatar, it's super helpful, thank you
@@anksonscreen glad I was able to help!! 💖

@@Zxwnng, r, s, there are many hotkeys. Google is also free to help you learn general blender hotkeys! They are the most basic ones to learn

I'm unsure what faces I need to cute out, since in the video it was already done :c im using the venus base with the amelia head
basically anything that overlaps, or if you mean the face mesh just create a circle-ish hole in a similar shape to how the neck looks!
@@DarcyFBX alright I'll try that thank you sm!! Great video!!❤️

Clear split normals + auto smoothing
@@DarcyFBX Clear split Normals helped a lot. For Auto Smoothing did u mean enable or disable?
im using akii base and dean head and for some reason they wont meet at the center pleaseeee help meeeeee
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I GET DOGGED ON MY NECK AND HEAD ALL THE TIME THANK YOUUUUU
What do you do if the verts for the body and head are different?
Merge and create tris where needed
i used amelia head + new zinpia egirl base and tried to merge them but it looks the same as without lmao I'm dead

how do i line up the vertices? i cant see/tell what tool you are using in edit mode to do that
Xray mode
My fix model always tells me it's unable to find a bone group ;-;
im sorry i dont know how to fix that D: make sure you have the latest version of cats installed! and make sure the right armature is selected
**when the vertices won't merge**
hii cutie !!
Do you make custom avatars for vtubers?
not at the moment sorry!

@@AlexysRM I will reccomend things that work for me :)
If you remove all the settings besides “remove zero weight bones” it works perfectly. Other settings are bad yes.
