Juneau is a unified municipality located on the Gastineau Channel in the panhandle of Alaska. It has been the capital of Alaska since 1906, when the government of the then-Alaska Territory was moved from Sitka. Downtown Juneau is nestled at the base of Mount Juneau and across the channel from Douglas Island. As of the 2000 census, the City had a population of 30,711. Downtown Juneau sits at sea level below steep mountains about 3,500 to 4,000 feet high. Atop these mountains is the Juneau Icefield, a large ice mass from which about 30 glaciers flow; two of these, the Mendenhall Glacier and the Lemon Creek Glacier, are visible from the local road system.
This video begins as we sail into Juneau's harbor on the Sapphire Princess. After disembarking the ship I take the tramway to the top of Mount Roberts for fantastic views of the Gastineau Channel and the city of Juneau. Next I journey out to Mendenhall Glacier before returning to the city and sailing away.
I visited Juneau in July 2012 and fell in love with the beauty of the nature. The Princess cruise
trip was a memorable experience in discovering Alaska. I advise it to everybody who likes to travel to off the beaten tracks.
I went there like 2 weeks ago and it was literally the most beautiful place I've ever been.

I was just there two weeks ago. I was on a 2 week cruise on the Zaandam. The trip to the top was the highlite of my day. Our ship looked so small in the harbour.

Mendenhall Glacier at this time of March 2015 is completely fozen. Shallow water no movement. Wonderful views. Great experience of mother nature.

That cable car reminds me the cable car built to reach the summit of Sugar Loaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro. But apparently, the one featured in this video seems to have a much steeper line.

I used to live here. And as pretty as it is, it's very wet. And that means that although the temps aren't that cold, they penetrate to the bone. I personally prefer living in Anchorage. Not quite as pretty and technically colder, but much more pleasant.
I'm hoping to get a job as a tour guide with the Princess Cruise in Juneau for the year of 2011. :)

morris brix TV yep, Eaglecrest ski area. But if you are going to Alaska to ski, definitely go to alyeska in Girdwood instead

Did you booked the tour before you travelled or just walked around ?
I took a helicopter tour in the morning and a whale watching tour later in the afternoon. This is what I did in-between on my own between the two tours. Thanks for watching.
