I'm here now and Sitka is stunning!
Before the city tour, I heard a returning passenger make a derogatory comment about her experience. I totally disagree and wish I could have lived there myself. The extreme cost of living would have made that impossible but the charm and sense of community spirit was inspiring. What a treasure! Thoroughly enjoyed the historical dances and raptor sanctuary. A highlight of my cruise experience there May 2023.
I haven’t been to Alaska yet but, from what I gather, Sitka is heavy on education and museums while Skagway may be more shopper-friendly. Perhaps that person was disappointed in that. Hoping for this year.
I will be visiting Sitka Alaska in May 2024 and I’m really looking forward to my visit!

I’m confused about the Castle Hill view of Sitka Sound, there doesn’t appear to be anything like that on Google Maps.
