Thank you for this DIY. I've also noticed my MY w/ HW 4 front camera seems more sensitive, especially in the morning driving into dawn sun w/ FSD. Also, it was nice meeting you at We,Robot😃
No way I'm taking all of this apart....
@@sushisoup6840 you could pay service to do it for $1000!
I can see that reaction. The world is surrounded by people who take zero risks. Be brave. You might end up more knowledgeable. That's not a bad thing.
College educated or managerial?
You can only break it, and you're going to the shop at that point anyhow.
Tesla is like Legos.
@@techgeekteslaI read somewhere else that Tesla mobile service will do it for $150. No idea how accurate that is.
@@techgeekteslais it really 1000
@walterwhite1 check to see, I doubt it’s $1000, but the service center near my house charges $239/hr. just for labor.
I've never had the sunlight issue until this update. TAKE CONTROL WERE ALL GOING TO DIE. If the fsd can't see it means I can't either.
Nothing ruins a nap in the car like that alarm.
I feel you.
Tesla should have engineered a simple tilt down cover for cleaning the glass in front of the cameras. This is way too difficult.
Thx. I need to do this after 6 months ownership.
Just did this and surprisingly easy with right tools! Recalibrated cameras and omg FSD is way more smooth. Big change for me so far on 12.5.4.1. Thanks!
I did end up stripping the right screw when retightening even though I had correct t10 size. Idk how I’ll get it out next time I go to clean it.
Are you on HW4? Which Tesla model?
@@JoseDiaz-f7o yes hw4 model 3
You can put a rubber band between the screwdriver and the screw to get it out. I used that trick all the time on stripped screws on computers when I did repairs.
Beautiful one-handed operations‼️ I assume much easier if I don't have to film while dismantling. 😂
Mine is a week old. No dirt in there. It was still hard breaking with an oncoming car with high beams on a two lane road.
That was easy, thank you. The car popped up a warning to do this job.
It’s now recommended maintenance by Tesla - and I am not even remotely surprised. It gets quite a film on the glass AND camera lenses which really affects camera vision in poor lighting conditions.
I did this a year ago on my 2019 and there was a huge improvement. I’ll do it again sooner rather than later.
My M3 is not even 3 weeks old and my glass is super dirty from plastic off gassing. I believe it should be clean when I accepted the car on November 9th. The manufactured date was 6/24 so I suspect it has been sitting in the sun while waiting for a buyer. I also found a ton of leaves behind the hubcaps as well as a bunch of dirt and debris under the wipers and in all the crevices. Service is making me wait over 3 weeks for an appointment to clean and quoted me $1,438 to repair. Not impressed with AI service request without any human interaction. I could disassemble it myself but the point to me is that a brand new car should be new, and clean!
same situation for me - build date 6/28/24 picked up 11/20/24 very dirty and front camera in same state. I appreciate the discount on an in inventory vehicle but the delivery of a dirty new vehicle with 8 miles and various issues (led light bar on dash misaligned and passenger seat has a void in the foam) was very disappointing as a first-time Tesla owner.
Thank you for this how to. I will be doing this soon since mine i fogged up to high heavens.
Great content as always!
Google must be in my head, it recommended this video the day after I noticed it was dirty in there. Also getting more camera warnings with 12.5.4 (just got 12.5.4.1)
Wouldn’t a waxed windshield be a bigger problem? This enclosure seems to be closed pretty tightly, with very little room for dust/dirt getting in there.
@@z4zuse moisture and air finds a way. (Insert GIF of Jeff Goldblum saying “nature will find a way”)
Seems everyone who gets their front windshield tinted ends up with moisture in that compartment. I only got a strip at the top and still had that problem.
The Tesla onboard cameras need to go into polarized lens mode as soon as it detects sun glare
Thanks for doing this. I have been wanting to gain access to the flocked cover in order to remove visible lint debris I can see through the glass.
edit: I did this job today. 11/18/24
No, I don’t think the front camera or glass surface area issue, but it’s bug software or by default warning , because my model Y new which I bought 5 months(June to October)ago 2024 which started trail FSD 1 month version 12.3.6 then I continued subscription with the latest update 12.5.4.1 and it was still hit this alert for driver take over by the sun light sweeps directly through it. So it is not necessary to take it out to clean!
Y'all think you may invite dust and moisture by exposing the inside? Not to mention accident damage prying and using Channel Locks to gain access; risk associated behavior? I'll pass.
LoL
No, I don’t believe it’s dirt etc. my M3 is brand new and the camera is very sensitive to sunlight . When exposed to bright sunlight after coming from a shady stretch of a road, it can trigger the wiper.
I have seen quite a few Tesla owners dismantling many parts of their cars and noticeably with very little benefits or improvements. Usually they end up spending lots to prove very little.
Did you see anyway of adding an infrared sensor/light in there for the cabin camera? Would love to enable that functionality if possible.
IR light, not sensor, unfortunately there is an IR filter on the lenses of all pre 2024 model 3 cabin cameras, so adding IR light will not help.
Tesla does this cleaning for $51.60
