    I agree! To me, the ideal day off from work was a trip to a restaurant, then a video store--browsing the shelves to find hidden treasures I'd never seen, new releases I couldn't wait to see, and old favorites I'd love to see again. Watching the movie is only half the fun--the video store trip was the true experience.

      That's a perfect day off work. It was such a special moment in time that I wish we could bring back. The video rental store, browsing, human interaction, excitement in finding certain titles, and then being able to watch them is the fun we need again.

    I am all in favor of bringing back and experimenting with video stores again. Going inside a video store was like a trip to heaven, as I have been a huge movie buff since childhood. The closest thing we have currently these days to a rental store is your local library. Seeing movies on demand is convenient and ok, but it’s not the same feeling as going to a video store.

    It was more than just going and grabbing a movie for me it was an experience... the smell.. the thoughts of not knowing what type of movie you'll come out with after an hour of browsing.. I used to bring my eldest daughter too and she remembers it as a great experience.. unfortunately my youngest two will probably never get to see it,, hopefully it changes.. I'd gladly give up my netflix, disney plus and prime for a store to open in my town

      I'll have to look into that, didn't think about RedBox. Honestly it's probably doing good in rural country areas, but probably not so good overall.

    Yes please bring back the video rental stores! Some more niche bluray titles go O.O.P.(Out Of Print) too soon, so have copies exclusive to rental stores would keep some movies around longer! :)

      @FanZceneVids  2 роки тому +1

      Excellent idea Tim! That would be great and a good way to help the video store to come back. Make some exclusive disc just for them and to keep the movie in the zeitgeist.

    I think the only viable option for a modern video rental store would be with a monthly fee starting at $10-15, that allows two rentals at a time. Memberships could be upgraded to allow for more rentals out at a time, and would also allow access to a private theater that could seat about 20 or less people. The private theater would allow for the store to have special screenings and would also be able to be reserved by higher tiered subscribers. Since the screenings aren’t open to the public, you wouldn’t have to license the screenings.

    the cool thing about video stores is that they almost always had what you were looking for. streaming services rotate their stock because of how much time they can offer the video due to copyright. and most online services offer rentals but at 3.99 its not even worth it. its almost impossible to watch the classics as either no one sells them or even has access to them. growing up with video stores was one of the best things to do on a friday or sat night. and you could rent games. it was also a sense of a community.

    I miss the video rental stores.I grew up with them and I miss it.They need to bring back the video rental stores.I can’t stand Netflix and Hulu and those streaming services.Not everyone can efford to have the internet.You can go in to a video store and rent movies cheaper.

    I loved going to video stores and trying to track down obscure titles. I have over 500 VHS prerecords, many bought in the late 1990s, but I bought only obscure stuff I wasn't expecting would get issued on DVD.

    I have a giant collection of VHS and DVDs. I lost hundreds in my last move.
    But I created my own home cinema and video rental.
    My mother lives in a retirement community. Most don't have internet and don't know what it is. Lol.
    I created membership cards for mom and her friends.
    I have a list of movies.
    They come and take movies mostly on VHS.
    I don't charge them but they mostly give donations.
    They return them. I give them another. Most of them can't afford cable. So my collection is pretty much all they watch.
    So I think a video rental place WOULD do good in retirement communities.

      @@FanZceneVids I used to have so many old movies. Some from my parents that I got rid of. I never watched them. Now I'm trying to find them at good will and thrift stores. Like On Golden Pond. The Marx Brothers. Old B&W stuff too. That's the stuff they like. Some newer. But the VHS is what they like. When I buy a box at a yard sale. I get same ones over and over. I take them to my mom's. I put the box in there community room. It's where they play bingo and stuff. I let them take whatever they want for free. Hate to see them get trashed.
      That's where I got a lot from too.
      A maintenance worker at a place down the shore.
      When the people die. Nobody wants the VHS.
      They throw them out.
      So he was selling them.

    What films would you stock the stores with broski? All the licenses on our discs are for personal, non commercial, home use only. Back in the rental days video stores bought directly from warner brothers, paramount and disney to stock their store with commercially sanctioned copies.

    • @FanZceneVids
      @FanZceneVids  2 роки тому

      Good question, and you're right about the license. If possible a lot of classic titles, some out of print and not streaming titles, and of course new titles and superhero stuff, that even though may be streaming some people don't have the service or don't want the service.

    I would love to see a return of the video rental store. So many great memories of visiting video stores when I was younger. Would definitely visit them more often than I use Streaming as I tend to watch more of my DVD collection more than I use Netflix.
    I would be more than happy if they did bring VHS rentals as well. Always enjoy finding copies of VHS in second hand stores.

    There is potential here I suppose. 4K movies require a large amount of bandwidth to stream. 8K which will eventually come out we don't have the infrastructure to stream on that so physical media is currently the only option. Then you have the "Old" demographic, The people who are of a certain age who are technophobic with modern technology. They can't operate the internet but know how to put a disc or VHS tape into their players. Then you have the trendies. The people who love old tech but were too young or weren't even born when that tech was a thing. Perhaps they want a feel for the old days of their parents, don't like modern tech or just want to live a simpler life. Then you have the nostalgia crowd. The ones who grew up using that tech and want a taste of the old days much like yourself. I know there's a market for it because I go to the largest private arcade in Europe and people of all ages hang out there like we did back in the 80's/90's.
    I personally would love to see video shops come back again. There was stuff in there that you couldn't buy (If you get what I mean) and the variety of formats you could choose from was greater. The atmosphere was better too. It was warm on cold days and cold on hot days. They always had a film playing on the mounted TV's and you could buy movie snacks and popcorn there as well. Sadly, it would be a novelty thing and would wear off quickly. Sure, renting a VHS, Betamax or even Laserdisc would be cool but how often would someone use it? The novelty feature would die off pretty quickly. Then you have running costs like business rates, taxes, movie company royalties, staff wages and the acquisition of new/old stock titles and maintaining the current stock. I honestly don't think it's a viable market and if it were the running costs would cripple the business quickly.
