Inside One of the Last VHS Rental Stores in America

  • Nestled in the quiet town of Chatham, New York, is Video Visions, one of the last-remaining video stories in America. Steven Campbell opened Video Visions in 1984 with Jim Donovan. At the time, they had just 200 titles. Now, they have over 26,000 that customers can rent for a few bucks a day. In addition to a plethora of DVDs, the store still stocks VHS tapes, as well as VCRs to play them. #InsideEdition

    • @theylied1776
      @theylied1776 5 років тому +30

      @LoganTheLionheart Not fake at all, I could write an entire book about my experience working at that video store. In our little strip mall there was a rivalry between our video store, the comic book store, and the Chinese restaurant.
      There was an abortion clinic directly across the street from us and the local Baptist Church would take turns protesting the abortion clinic and our video store because we rented adult movies. I hope you understand the irony of that comment?
      I have so many stories that I have from my experience from working at that video store that I can make one hell of dark-comedy about working at a video store.

    The entire vhs rental process was so cool. I remember as a kid It was cool because of the video covers. Looking at the artwork then turning them around. • @jarvindriftwood
      @jarvindriftwood 5 років тому +3

      The process was really great. The covers definitely sold movies sometimes they had more effort put into them than the movies themselves lol. I also loved all the little tricks like movies that came in bigger boxes so they grabbed your attention. And the low budget movies were "Exclusive to VHS/Home Video" instead of "straight to video" so they didn't sound cheap but limited edition.

    This brings back so many memories of my childhood..... I miss those days of going to a rental store and renting vhs tapes and later buying used dvds at Blockbuster Video. I'm relieved Half Price Books is still around, and still selling DVDs, Blu-rays and even VHS, but it's something else entirely to go to a store like this. I still own a VHS player as well as a handful of old VHS tapes; but I would pay just to get a chance to visit this particular store. The owner seems super friendly with a great community. And not to mention renting out old vhs players. You don't find that anywhere nowadays. How do I miss the 80s and 90s sometimes.

    One time we asked him what was the worst condition he ever got them back in, his reply "I got one with a burger in it and another I opened to find that someone had puked in it!"
