On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

Would love to see either the F4U Corsair or the P51D with the Merlin engine fight against the Bf-109. The British Mk24 Spitfire would be cool, too.

Toxic is an absolute gun of a pilot. I'm pretty sure he has the best K/D ratio against GS compared to the rest of opponents.
As someone who had spent far too much of his life on flight sims in the WW1/WW2 eras: P51's biggest advantage is her speed. Going too slow in a P51 is always a mistake. Big 2 circle fights keeping the Mustang fast, especially if you can put that circle off set a bit because most American plans have amazing energy retention. Personally I tend to think 6 .50cals are better than 1 heavy cannon (the ability to just hose a target is easier than being precise with a bigger gun)
True. For dogfights probably the 30mm was not the best choice, for me i always have the feeling the 30mm is there for the effect on bigger targets like bombers, its not optimal for fighter engagements....
not to mention the P-51 is meant to fight at high altitude, not on the deck; unless we're talking about the A's
Cutting the engine is an immediate loss, pretty much.
Also, turning at all with the 109 should lose, if there is tobe a chance in such, the p51s faster roll might be the only way.
@@bimsbarkas p51 has a gsuit the 109 does not. keep the p51 fast and use combat flap and u can outturn that 109
@@hound83 I think the 30 Mike-Mike was more for taking down B-17's, B-24's and Avro Lancaster's. Against an agile fighter like the Spitfire or 'Stang, yea, way too slow unless you were within 100m.

There aren’t many Pacific Theatre assets in either IL-2:GB or DCS; he’d need to get into IL-2: 1946 to have a Pacific Theatre combat
@@zanaduz2018 that's a shame. Pacific Theater had some impressive aircraft, and often gets overlooked in favor of European Theater. (Wasn't as "romantic", maybe? Just US vs. Japan, instead of the world vs. a madman)

@@0neBadRabbit Keep your eyes peeled on Combat Pilot. The Pacific Theater means a lot to me more personally (Dad served in the Navy) but also the F4F is one of my favorite dogfighters of that era.
LOVE seeing more WW1 and WW2 content being considered. Some of the most intense and exciting fights happen when you have these "old fashioned" dogfights happen. Mostly because it isn't just about the technology, but the pilot CONTROLLING the technology.

Never get sick of WW2 bird videos. There's just something special about them. Much more intense than launching AMRAAMS from 60 miles then diving while listening to beeping. Though I do love those as well, the WW2 birds are the OG.

Great matchup. I love how the unique howl of the Mustang is recreated as well. That's the subject of a lot of debate over the years... supercharger, radiator, etc. Saw a video from a guy who's restored them and he said it's from the longer gun tubes of the inner most guns (not barrel lengths of the guns themselves, they're all the same of course). As a result, a Helmholtz resonance is formed at certain speeds and angles of attack. Fascinating!
You can tell when GS is having to work hard to win, and the combination of that K4 and Toxic's piloting, definitely made him work.

I would really like to see 2 vs 2 or 4 vs 4 WWII fights.
Those really can have much more realism and challenges than just 1 vs 1 fights.
A 4v4+ would be cool as it would bring tactics into play but I'm guessing bringing in other quality gamers into the mix would also bring in additional scheduling issues.

Those world war 2 dogfights were truly something different
it seems the biggest flaw of the K-4 in the dogfight is the MK108's velocity making it difficult to aim at fighters. Some K-4s were fitted with the regular MG151 20mm instead, I wonder how much of a difference that would make. Love the WW2 videos!
One iteration of K’s featured two 20’s and the 30, along with 13mm guns in the nose. All you’d need is one good pass on anything to kill it. Made them real pigs tho.

If the DCS Mustang ran the correct historical horsepower setting it would be interesting aswell. But can’t have it all? Allied planes seem to always be shacked in these so called “Sims” I wonder why is that not the case for axis planes only allied planes in sims other then IL2 GB?
The mustang in DCS is missing over 200HP! How is it you’re stuck at 61” of manifold pressure when by the time the G6 came out it was running 72” and 75”??? British mustangs ran 81”! So wtf is the DCS devs doing? Let me guess “balance”.
I also think six 50 cals is a much better armament solution when the pilot needs to fire spontaneously without a guarantee of every hit connecting-you can afford to spray a bit with the 50 cals and see what happens-not so with the 60 rounds of 30 mm.

Most competitive fight I’ve seen on GS channel. Fun to watch. Too often you just crush your opponent. Fun to see you sweat!
Pilots in WW2 never got into turning fights with the BF and ME 109s. They always went vertical and powered up like you did toward the end of round two.
Keep the WW2 content....much more exciting than shooting a missile from 912 miles away
last one was way more intense than all dogfights from modern jets. No wonder people still like dogfights in movies so much
GS - According to the movie Redtails - I think if you kill the throttle, pull hard on the stick with full rudder the Mustang will stall and the prop will pull you around quickly. I remember seeing that on the movie and again a pilot from WW2 (The Blue Nosed Bastards of Botany) described the same maneuver. Maybe try that when the K4 is on your tail.

10:50 here is the advantage of wing guns against nose guns.
You can take some distant hard shots way easier because of the bullets spread.

I truly thank you for these p51 K4 duels. I have been flying years ww2 fighters and the k4 is actually impossible to defeat. Average pilots on this plane throw me off the sky with no effort. I keep my hopes high in practice and practice. I watch these videos over and over till get every single tip you put on them. Thanks and please more!

It was the pilot who made it look that good. The 109 actually had a slower turn rate than the p51

Kurt Tank's Butcher Bird was Germany's best piston fighter. Later models, (primarily the Dora) addressed the earlier models lack of high altitude performance. And I suggest that the M and N models of the P47 were America's best fighter in the European theater.

Read a great 51 fighter pilot autobiography years ago, 1 tactical thing impressed on me was that they always engaged ideally with a wingman.
Beautiful move around 2mins in. I cant remember his name but he wrote that manual and was known for saying give me 30seconds and ill have a guy off my 6 and Infront of me, in that manual he had that move broke down step by step.

Maybe the P-51A? I keep asking the same thing myself. Being an A would really be the only answer.
Since basically forever. If you search for period climb rate data, P-51Ds normally averaged around 3,000-4,000 (ft/min) when 109s, especially later Gs and K-4, averaged around 4,500-5,000 (ft/min).
P-51 does have Cd0 advantage but not necessarily a total drag advantage. Also the Cd0 difference depends on the amount of radiator flaps opening, but the more they are open, the more advantage any P-51s will have over any 109s.
I though it was a well know fact that 109 climb rate were exceptional, p51 ain't touching it here

Always struggle flying the P51 - better plane with the attitude but in 1v1 dog fight co-alt, just a hard plane to win a knife fight in.

They need to come out with a F4U-1 Corsair. Yes, it was better than the Mustang, refer to the testing pitting the two against each other at the Patuxent Naval Airstation testing ground. There is very little information in history regarding the meeting of the Me 109 and what variant of both aircraft being pitted against each other, but the British used the F4U on their aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean.
Recreate BOLO. F-4, MiG 21, f-105 & SA2. Could also be cool to do a modern day “thud ridge” reenactment? Like f-18s v SA6 or something if the “Nam” era planes aren’t on DCS. Just something about gun engagements or old school missile fighting. It’s up close & personal. Like fly fishing vs bait fishing or something lol. Always love the content. 5:05 moment lmao. Good stuff.

Hawker Hurricane vs ME-109E-4. The Poles of the 303rd Squadron shot down many 109's during the Battle of Britian while flying Hurricanes so I think it would be a good match up.

Once you cut the engine to get him to overshoot you will most likely not have enough energy left to do anything with that overshoot (if he goes vertical).
I actually did not know the P51 struggled so much with the 109(K4) so much. I did notice GS mention the altitude is this the allison engine P51? Wasn't there a Merlin??? Supercharged powered P51 that was much better?
P51 receives a lot of attention for reasons that aren't it's dogfighting ability. It has high altitude and long range. It's advantages are sticking with the bombers as escort. Down low, it's usually outclassed by most axis fighters in dogfights. K4 was essentially the peak of the 109 series, and compared favorably to the P51 in all but range. But, by the time the K4 was in production, the Luftwaffles didn't have many experienced pilots left. Much like the Japanese, the equipment was better than the operators could handle at that point. This scenario doesn't keep those in mind, thus the K4 will outperform the P51 in almost all ways.
