@@dsullivan6842 about once a day I get a serious hankering for chemistry knowledge. It's like a chemical dependency... I come watch this Mannich Reaction video and I'm good to go. Chemistry lessons: it's what chemistry students crave.

You're the best because you delve into more specialized topics, many of the great UA-cam channels cover mostly ap level.
Thank you for everything you do professor Dave.

R stands for "remainder of molecule" btw because these are considered functional groups to be added to other atoms/molecules

There is a show called Invincible and in season 1 episode 4 there is a scene with a villian making a clone. In this scene, he goes through a bunch of "lab setup" and then gets a drop of his blood(won't say how because it's awesome)and injects it into the clone lump thing. The next scene is a very rough close up of mitosis or whatever it's called, I do not know. I would like you to break down that scene because if that show is that popular, it is, how accurate is the example they give? What I get from this channel is a personal drive to exterminate misinformation and I love it. Thank you, Dave.

@@ProfessorDaveExplains Sorry, I didn't want to be cynical or anything.
I'm just wondering if - for example, you could spot an error in a year from now if I changed a few atoms here and there and introduced a random molecule somewhere ? I'm not sure how the whole process is discovered in the first place or anything - I'm in computer science and math, I'm not used to this. I know how to debug a program, prove the correctness of an algorithm, and so on, but I don't understand how you can derive this "Mannich reaction" from simpler chemical facts. Sorry if this sounds silly

Um, so there are these people called chemists. They do chemistry, and make all kinds of new substances, materials, and useful products. Some young people are interested in becoming chemists, so they have to learn chemistry. If you aren't, that's totally fine, but it's very odd to act dumbfounded as to why anyone else would. And don't call it "word soup" just because you don't understand it. That's also infantile.
