I BOUGHT AN AIRPLANE! Some Assembly Required

  • I found a lonely 1977 Cessna 152 at the airport and decided to NOT part it out. (I know, I know, shocking)
    Her name is Peachy
This is the start of a mini series for Peachy. Yes, the squawk list is long, but worth it for such a LOW time C152. So many things to do that I don't go over in the video, including ADSB.
And yes, I know I said "SO" a lot, so there is a counter.
As always, stay till the end to watch the bloopers. It's always a good time making fun of myself.
If anyone is looking for parts, give the Fast Aviation crew a shout at 888-519-5171 or email me at rachel@fastaviationflorida.com

I’m in the process of restoring a 1968 Mooney M20C. I’m retrofitting a Lycoming IO-360 A1A, fuel injected motor in it. Good stuff!

That’s awesome! I’m a fan of fuel injected vs. carb.

I'm in the process of purchasing my first plane. Salvaging planes is FAR from what I do for a living, but I would absolutely love to. I look forward to following your channel!

Love me a 150/152. I have most of my training in one. Such a great plane. Also those Blue Angels fly low and loud! I live on a 3 mile final for 9L at KSFB - so got a good view of them last time they were here!

That’s awesome! I’m on the half mile final to 9R! I love having airplanes fly over every day. 😀

Looking forward to seeing it all back together! Finding a good 152 feels like finding a needle in a haystack at this point.

Agreed, I have not found one in the 15 years I’ve been doing salvage with less than 5k TT on it. Most are used for training.

I can’t wait to see what you guys do with that sweet little 152. I spent a lot of hours tooling around, and punching holes in this guy in a 152 that I rented frequently. I got nowhere fast, but it was definitely one of my favorite airplanes to fly. Take care, and I can’t wait until the next videos!

I didn’t hear anything you said, but I sure was watching😉. Im the guy who contacted you recently about my old bonanza, whose wing ran into a turkey during flare to a landing😡

Interested in knowing the cost to purchase and the cost overhaul. Just splitting the case will be expensive with new bearings, plus the cost to overhaul all 4 cylinders and the cam shaft. How do the lifters look? If the wings have that match too corrosion, I hope you pulled some inspection plates before you took ownership. Even at 0 cost to buy your going to have a hard time making any money on this one IMHO.

Those are some good points. I’ve parted out multiple 150 and 152’s and found 152’s are much more valuable with parts-but also as a whole with low time. I feel that a lot of videos I’ve watched of people overhauling or going through an engine don’t talk about the cost. I think it would be a great point to really be open about the cost of the engine to bring it airworthy. The cost of an overhaul and avionics are one of the main reasons why people part out airplanes, among other reasons. I am going to do whatever is the most economical and put more elbow grease into it rather than the “quickest” route-which is usually more costly. Thank you for this comment-I will be making a video about the cost going through the engine. In regards to the wings, even if they’re BER, replacing them will be less than $5k if I had to purchase them but since I have a salvage yard, I can do some wheelin’ and dealin’ with other salvage yards locally.

@@Aircraftsalvagequeen I might have to call you for Piper Pacer parts. I have a 1950 Pacer that hasn’t flown in 24 years. Last annual was in 2000. Engine looks good with cam, tappets, and lifters, just need cleaned up. Top overhaul was only 100 hours ago. Full books and matching numbers. But it’s like an onion. Every time I take something apart I find another thing that needs fixed. I’m planning on doing a complete recover now. Parts are hard to find!
