  • In today's video I am going to show you how to build a proper rivnut tool!
No more struggling with alternative methods to insert a rivnut. This is a proper tool that does not break the bank like the ones you normally buy from your tool store!
So round up those pieces of scrap metal and get creative!

Simple is preferred, but a more versatile build would have the two blocks be pivotable around parallel horizontal axes running normal to the main plain of the tool, with each block having different diameter holes (e.g. 6mm and 8mm) running perpendicular to each other and both perpendicular to the axis on which the block pivots. These two blocks could be colour-coded. Another suggestion: make the mechanical advantage of the tool adjustable i.e. make the plates with the two pivots variable in length, to suit the varying diameters/masses of the rivnuts.

Avery useful video, but what are you doing between 4:14 and4:50 its completely off camera where are you putting the washer you're talking about ?

My apologies George, my filming skills were still very rusty at that time. At 4:48 you will be able to see the washer that I put between the rivnut and the tool. the washer is there so that the rivnut is not partially pulled into the tool, as the hole is bigger than the m6 bolt I used to hold the rivnut in place. The hole in the tool is bigger so that it can accommodate larger bolts and rivnuts. I hope this helps a bit. Thanks for your support!👌

@@DIYwithDeon Thanks I suspected that was the case. I shall be stating mine in the morning. Another thought is that maybe I can convert my heavy duty pop rivet puller to do the same job. It has a 7mm hole in the back of the rivet grab.

With regards to the info on this tool: I only used pieces of scrap metal to build it. So in my case it was some 20mm x 20mm square iron and pieces of flat bar cut to size. Then I merely bolted them together. It is a very similar design than an actual rivnut tool.
