  • Step-by-step guide on how to replace / remove airbag clockspring on Dodge Grand Caravan minivan. This is a bit bigger project, but once you know what you are doing it can be done in less than half hour. ( 2011 | 2012 | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 | 2020 | SE | CVP | AMP | SXT | LIMITED | CREW | VALUE PACKAGE | EXPRESS ).
    Most common symptoms of failed airbag clockspring are:
    horn not working
    airbag light on
    steering wheel controls not working
    traction control light on
    cruise control not working
    cracking noise in steering wheel when turning
    To replace the clock spring on Dodge G. Caravan first you will have to remove the steering wheel airbag. It is held by two 10mm screws. Once removed, you will gain access to 13mm screw that holds the steering wheel. remove the steering wheel and all the trim plastic pieces on top of the airbag clock spring. Disconnect 4 connectors from the clock spring and remove three torx T20 screws. Remove the air bag clock spring and move the signal light switch onto the new clock spring. Make sure not to overturn the new clock spring. That's it.

    Thank you. Additional note: if you are having issues with your wheel buttons only (like, your horn works, no airbag light), it may be the last connector buddy pulled off, that is the white one just above the centre bolt. My cruise and step/reset buttons were getting very sporadic and I really didn't want to replace an expensive clockspring unless i had to, so before going whole hog I sprayed them with a wire-dry compound. Voila. I don't know about using brake or carb cleaner because they sometimes dissolve unexpected things. These connectors are tiny. Maybe alcohol or WD 40 but I had a can of the proper stuff left over from my snowmobiling days and that I can recommend. Took less than an hour (including the 15 minute game of find-the'-10mm). Good luck.

      Hi, I've never done it on the Dodge Avenger. Probably it will not be exactly the same, but very similar

    Any idea on how to reset the air bag light ?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  3 місяці тому

      You would need higher end obd2 scanner to access the module and reset it. If problem is not fixed it will come right back on most likely. You can try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting and see if that does it as well

    Any idea why steering wheel won’t come off after removing the bolt? I’ve even tried a steering wheel puller with J hooks. Doesn’t budge.

      @QuiteAlright  Рік тому

      Sorry can't help you, sometimes they are really like cemented. It should go with the good puller

      @@QuiteAlright thanks for the quick reply. Couldn’t get it off with the puller kit. But yanked the heck out of it side to side and finally got it loose. Had to stop with the 3rd Torx screw under the steering wheel - couldn’t get it off in the dark. But almost there - will finish in the morning. Your video helps a lot. Couldn’t do it without it. 👍

    My horn works , but my cruise doesn’t, my step and reset buttons have to be pressed kind of hard. I think I may try a cruise control switch first. I also have a tire monitor sensor that won’t go away, has anyone ever heard of that stopping cruise control from working?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  2 місяці тому

      Hi failed tpms sensor will not cause cruise not to work as it only monitors PSI in the tire. Failed wheel speed sensor will cause cruise to malfunction. You can test your old switch using multimeter before replacing, but from experience I've seen these switches failing multiple times

    My horn and cruise stopped working. Is the clock spring the likely culprit?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  Рік тому +1

      I can't say for sure without looking at the vehicle, but most likely yes.

      Any idea if another screw is holding on the steering wheel for ‘14 Chrysler Town/Country (basically same as Dodge)? Locked on tight. Rented a steering wheel puller and still can’t get it off. Removed main bolt but seems very connected still.
