Installation of the Gobi 4runner Ladder was supper easy and maybe only took trail4r and I 10-20 minutes. A few basic steps for set up then it was removing the 3m adhesive tape and sticking it to the 5th gen Toyota 4runner. After it was secure we bolted it up and the installation was complete.
DON'T FORGET to clean the sections of the body where you plan on placing the Gobi 4runner ladder.

That was so vastly simpler and clearer than the instructions they made with Windows '95.
Haha, happy to help
These videos are great, always my go to for my 4runner needs, I appreciate the work you're doing 👍
Thanks for letting me know, I'm happy to help
Great video. I think I found my ladder. Easy install
Hey, love your instructional videos! It's proving difficult to find install videos for running power to the roof rack of a 4Runner through the back hatch. Would you ever consider doing an instructional vid on running power through the back of the 4Runner and up into the rack for all rack lights? I think it would be pretty awesome with also using the Switch Pros or the sPOD. Keep up with the sweet vids!
That is a great suggestion. I will work on that!
@@SnailTrail4x4 Sweet! I would rather not run my power along the windshield arm because of the tight weather strip and if I ever need to replace my windshield I don’t want the repair guy to mess up the wires.
I just found your channel, awesome. I love it.
Thanks!
Looks easy as pie
No one makes back or side ladder for 2017 Honda Pilot ... I wonder if this unit will fit
Not sure, contact the manufacturer
Let’s say a couple of years down the road and i wanted to remove the ladder, will it damage the vehicle’s paint in anyways?
To be honest, not clue. But it's like putting a sticker on your rig, it's not really going to hurt it.
Just wondering when you going finish Samantha?
Coming in January
So it only holds with 3M ? I would've put some 3M adhesive promoter first
Can this fit on a 4th gen?
do i need the full roof rack? i’ve got the ladder, but i only have cross bars on my 4runner?!?!?
Need? I think it depends on what you want to place on your roof
So the top part of the ladder base is taped onto the body? I am heavy guy not sure if it is safe climbing up with just the 3M tape.
3m tape holds 100+ lbs per square in
Can you please tell the brand of the flat roof rack on the factory rails? Thank you!🙏🏻
Rhino rack 🦏
Is that a pioneer platform rack from Rhino??
Widdle wadder it case it wain?
Did your hatch door got miss alignment? Mine does after a yr
We haven't had an issue
What rack is that ?
Thanks for the video. It was a big help for the install. Just wondering if you found that the ladder does not seem parallel with the roof rack.? The latter is level top to bottom bit from behind it seems not to be parallel with the Pioneer Rhino Rack. My thinking is that the hatch is on a bit of a slope.
It's probably not parallel to the rack as they are two different manufacturers.
Dude you gotta climb that thing!
I have a few times.
Im having a headache with customer service I'm pretty sure they sent me the wrong part. The instructions are even wrong. Im supposed to have the version with riser and spoiler but the ladder wont reach all the way down.
just came upon your vid...is that an OEM slideout tray in the back...or something you built out
It's added, check out trail4r.com
@@SnailTrail4x4 Good info...thank you sir...great vids!
Did you need the need new gas struts to keep your trunk door up?
No, it's so light that there wasn't an issue.
What about adding fuel container?
Thanks for the video. How wide is the ladder/steps?
Maybe a foot
Thanks for the walk through!
Glad to help, thank you for commenting and your support
I have a 2002 GMC Envoy but golby doesn't make a ladder for my SUV can I use another ladder for another SUV llke a Toyota 4Runner.
It possible, the geometry for some of the angles might be slightly different and the overhang on the top section might be too long. But it would be worth a look and measure some things out to see if it would be close.
Can you do a video on how to install the rhino platform there?
+Bing Zheng -- Thanks for the suggestion. I've been talking to Trail4r about covering roof racks. I'll see if I can find one. Big thanks for the suggestion 👍
What brand is the spare tire hitch mount? Great video!!
Ridgid
Any reason you couldn’t put this in the middle of you have a roof top tent?
I don't recall but I believe the section in the middle of the door has a bigger Gap to the third brake light light wing. It still might be possible to do adjust word require some testing
No drilling? If so, great!
Nice 4runner is that a 4runner pro or a sr5? I want to buy a sr5 and install that rack, black rims and black out the chrome emblems.
+MrRgarcia112 -- This 4Runner is a Trail Premium. You should check trail4runner.com there are many great tutorials on the exact upgrades you want to do.
Lol. Everyone does mate.
Is that tape really strong enough to hold up a person securely over time?
It's been working great for over 3 years. One square inch of this 3m double sided tape is supposed to home 300 lbs
I wonder if that would fit my sienna awd minivan?
Only one way to find out
@@SnailTrail4x4 lol...true...how much is this ladder?
So is this just for show or can you actually use it what's the Weight limit on the latter
This is totally usable and the ladder has a 250 lb weight limit.
@@SnailTrail4x4 Im having a hard time understanding how 3m double sided tape lasts on uses of 250lbs weight and time wear how it is holding up now 5 months later?
Hey Hey just found you on UA-cam! I have a Toyota Rav4 2005 2nd Gen. And I want to put a ladder on it. Is that possible? Also I was thinking of putting some sort of cooler attachment on to the ladder or on to the back of the rav 4 . Any help is appreciated
It's possible, but I'm not sure this is the solution... I'm not sure about the RAV4 platform
@@SnailTrail4x4 gotcha thanks!
Great video looks like an easy install.
+AZ WESTSIDE WHEELERS -- it was a super easy install. Almost in feel worth making the video when I saw the length of it.
I would like to kow if that laddler will fit the Toyota Sequoia? If not, wich one you recomend?
Thank you....🙂
If not it would be close... There is some wiggle room. I don't know of any, sorry. You should contact Stellarbuilt he would know, or be able to make you one, haha
Soo easy,thanks
+John Diaz -- it's super simple, are you thinking about getting one?
Hey what roof rack do you have so I can look it up and get it
whats the name of the roof rack you have in your 4runner. Does that fit a gx470 ? nice ladder ..
It's designed for 4Runmers but the GX are very close, it might work. You should contact Gobi and ask the manufacturer
How is yours holding up after all this time? Mine still works but it has displaced the trunk door rubber lining where the ladder bottom rubs on it
Everything is working well, we have even added additional brackets to the ladder
I just ordered a Rhino Rack Pioneer platform as well for my 5th gen 4runner. Do you happen to know the distance between the the platform and the hatch when it's opened? I had looked at the Baja Rack ladder, but they said they need 3" between the hatch and rack. Maybe Gobi's needs less? Thanks!
I'm sorry I don't know the distance, that rack has been sold and we have a different one now
@@SnailTrail4x4 No worries, thanks for the reply. If you don't mind me asking, why did you get rid of the Rhino Rack? Ordered mine just a few hours ago, and that now I"m questioning if I made the right choice.
@@tommywarren im thinking of getting a rhino rack too, how do you like yours so far?
@@rudypimentel5128 I've only had it just shy of a month, but so far I'm happy with it. I got the 76x49 size and the full rail kit. I went from 17.8mpg to around 16.4. Wind noise isn't noticeable until I hit ~75mph on the Interstate, but even then it fades into the background noise pretty quick and I forget about it. I suspect if I take the rails off (which honestly aren't really needed in most cases) I'd see a little improvement in mpg and noise. My biggest concern with it, is I'd like to have a ladder on the back door instead of just standing on the tires and back bumper to access it but I haven't gotten any definitive info on what ladders might fit. The Bajarack folks said their ladder needs 3" between the back of the rack and the spoiler when the rear hatch is open, and with the Rhinorack, it's just slight less than 2". One other thing - the eyebolt kits Rhinorack sells are ridiculously priced. I ordered galvanized eyebolts, washers and nuts from McMaster-Carr and saved a bunch.
@@tommywarren Thanks for the detailed response. I'm torn between the rhinorack and gobi. So if you could do it over again would you go without the full rail kit? I too would like a ladder in the rear, would the gobi ladder fit with the rhinorack? I like your idea of going elsewhere for the eyebolts, is the mounting system pretty easy to use? Thanks again!
Did you update your lift shock when you install the ladder?
Nope, it is stock
So it just glues on top? Or actual screws
Tape, but yeah no screws. However it does hook over the edges.
But its not easy to get stolen right
@@krazmex09 -- Don't know I don't think about stealing them, are you going to steal ours? It's been so long I can't remember how the bottom bracket assembled. It might be tough to get the bolts off without having the door up. But yeah you can just undo the bolts on the top and if the bottom is off you could lift it off.
Obviously i meant if i buy one for 250$ plus shipping i dont want it to get stolen since in getting it for a hummer h3, which are known to get parts stolen. So i was wondering if i should apend 250$ plus shipping for a sticker ladder
@@krazmex09 -- let me double check how the bottom section hooks on. I will see this rig today actually and will let you know my thoughts.
Hey bud not level but plum ok 👍
did you have any issues with the ladder touching the rack when the lift gate is fully opened?
No, It fit great. Almost like they were made for eachother
How’s the wind noise?
OH good question, I would like to know also
no need to drill ?
no drilling required
They have ladder for 4runner 4th Gen sir?
what happened to Samantha?
Are the ladders compatible with 4Runners without a wing/spoiler?
So these are very easy to steal then? hmmmm not sure I'm sold on this one but at least you dont have to drill holes for install.
you cant get the brackets off without having the door up, unless you don't mind causing body damage I guess. But if someone is going to steal them then they probably don't mind causing body damage.
Do the 2 screws that clamp the bottom ladder support dig into the door's paint?
+williamallenfranklin -- no, the bolts on the top section have the double side tape on the back, and the bolts on the bottom push against the small piece of metal that's stuck to the door by more tape.
I subscribed before you even told me to.
Haha, thanks for the support
What's the weight limit?
I think I answered this in another comment, I believe it's 200-250 if I remember correctly.
Nice ladder.
Did you get that 3x10 toyota banner at the long beach grand prix?
+Grant Tanaka -- A good friend of mine gave it to me, I'm not sure where he got it from. I do enjoy it and it sure fills up my shop.
How does the weight of the ladder effect the hydraulic hinge of the hatch? I have seen that some people upgrade the hinge to hold the weight of the Gobi ladder.
We haven't had any issues.
Did I miss something or is this ladder held on by 3M tape? Lol
You didn't miss anything
@@MrJedi5150 Good point. Thanks
Would you mind giving the exact ladder description that you used? Since there’s plenty’s out there so I know and order the right one, thanks!.
+Jorge R -- Added a link in the description.
Thanks!
I've been putting off installing a ladder for over a year that takes 10 min to put on? oof... the shame.
You can do it! I believe in you
Similar install for a 97 Runner?
Yeah mostly, but I'm not Shure how the fitment would be. If Gobi makes a kit for 3rd gens then it would be similar
Can this be insalled on the right side or only the left?
Yes it can. I might advise you to put it on the driver's side for the sol reason of visibility. When looking through the rearview mirror or if you're turning your head you're more likely to see out the back on the passenger side
How much weight can the hatch/roof support ?
+justinfchan -- I have no idea how much the hatch supports, but time read that the ladder holds up to 250 pounds. I bet the door can hold more.
How long did it take to get that ladder? I have been reading like 6 months to get them
It was only about a month, but I called them and they had some in stock. I think we got lucky.
I am curious how it shows in the backup camera.
Doesn't really bother us
You never climbed or tested it
I guess not on video, but we did. And have climbed on it many times since. It's plenty strong and has a 250 lbs weight limit
does this work on a gx470?
That's a good question. It would matter how long the doors are, and if they are different. The mounting process would work but if the doors have a vastly different layout then it wouldn't fit correctly
Lol!!! Man with the swing out rear door instead of a hatch??? You would probably need a steel bumper with a swing out that has a ladder welded onto the swing out. That’s the only way I could think of on a GX470.
@@Seattle808 -- oh... I didn't recall that they had a swing out door. I'm not sure they would work for your application. It would be interesting to see.
Not even bolt on, its peel and stick install.
Pretty much, yeah. There are some parts that bolt to the stuck pannels.
uh isn't that scary?
Niceeeee!!!
where did you get your blackout 4runner emblems for your liftgate?

The actual word your looking for is “plum” not level. I bet your garage floor is not “level” which would make your tape line out of “plum”. Even if it is I guarantee your vehicle is out of level due to worn springs, bushings etc. you won’t see your vehicle leaning 1/8 of an inch but you will see the ladder 1/8 out of your vehicles parallel. Not trying to be picky but you sound ignorant. The best way to explain is that you want the ladder parallel to the centerline of the vehicle.
enjoy your video`s but I have always thought that these ladder`s seem like a pointless waste of money. between the rear bumper and the rock sliders like I have, you can reach anything you might want to put up top. I can`t see spending money on something just because it looks kinda cool. they also affect the functioning of the rear hatch so you need to buy HD after market pumps so your hatch door opens like it should.
does the ladder touch your rack when you open the rear hatch?
Is this compatible with cali raised roof rack?
