Ok, so TONS of people asked for this early, so here it is! It was a bit of a beast to edit but I LOVE THIS BUMPER... so far.
We also ran some tests to see how it all worked out and got stuck while filming!
Oh, and I also did some other stupid stuff but LEARNED a lot!

I like how you’re showing your shortcomings. So often we pretend to know everything and this is just a breath of fresh air.
😆 The struggle is real! 2 things:
1) I respect you for showing your struggles, and being honest with yourself and the viewers.
2)It is a good looking set up, though the led lights seem a bit weak to me.
Anyway, good job. As a man near 50 that has always worked with his hands, I can only imagine how daunting some of these tasks could be to a person lacking experience and tools. I respect those unafraid to ask questions and try.
In case you weren’t aware, you NEVER want to get sand in your synthetic winch rope if at all possible. It degrades it so quickly and you will end up destroying it’s weight rating.I am a huge proponent of synthetic winch rope(dyneema)but it has to be cared for.Every time you come back from a trip-I have found a quick and effective way to handle this-fill a plastic garbage pail with soapy water and spool the Cable into it-wash it with your hands and stir with a broom. It works great-all the sand will be on the bottom and not in your winchrope.
When u pulled the glock 17 out, i was sold on subscribing. Guns and cars. Thats life
Jason I love your videos, you're not shy about showing the struggles that 90% of us have when DIYing modifications on our vehicles. A safety tip for the winch while spooling line back in, give yourself plenty of room between where you grab the line to provide tension and the fairlead entrance. Many people have managed to suck there own hand into the fairlead. If at all possible use a second person and have them grab by the hook or hook tag if you have one. If you're alone just give yourself about 6 feet or so until you spool in enough line and the hook tag is available to grab on to. Stay safe.
rbuste I appreciate that!! I don't think I was grabbing it hard enough for that to have happened but I can see how it could happen under the right circumstances. I also should have been wearing gloves. I'll get better the more I use it!

I just want to say that I really appreciate that you show your mistakes in videos. A lot of people would immediately edit that out and hide it forever but showing mistakes really does help a lot of people to avoid them in the future.
One thing - don't power out the winch for long periods. There is an internal brake inside the drum that the motor pushes against in reverse, which heats up the drum. Normally not an issue but with synthetic line you can melt the line on the drum. Any time you need to run a significant amount of line, use the clutch, it'll be much quicker as well.
Bumper and light bar look great.
I love the Dremel tool! the cool thing is you can use it with a power converter which allows you to do cuts in the field. Great video, 4-5 hours is a great estimate when you are in a shop and have done it before...ALL DAY is a good allotment of time for any big project.
Nice vehicle, nice steel bumper, and nice glock! 👍🏼
Love how you got the kids hanging with you, I love doing that too lol
Jason , I give you so much credit for doing this at home but not only at home but at home awhile your kids are around ! Mad props and it looks fantastic 🤙🏻
I appreciate you tackling upgrades that I would not want to attempt. Well done.
AMAZING rig!! Also - LOVE that you leave in the little hiccups - a great way to learn for EVERYONE and acknowledges it is a great way to learn. Really like watching your problem solving!!
Wow, great, funny and informative at the same time.... And yes, the Glock fits too....
After seeing the quality of this video and all the time you put into your edits it is obviously a passion of yours and that really shows! Thanks for the great content man. Subbed!
Great vid! I can appreciate how you get the family involved. It's great to see them enjoying the adventures with you.
Dude that bumper looks totally sick and the functionality it adds while still being subtle is awesome.
awesome! proud to be a 4runner groupie for life!
What i like about Jasons vids. Its nerdy and shows the human error we all experience at one time or another. A lil more in Jasons case. Pneumatic tool looking for cord. Good stuff.
Oooh yea, nice look! Nice weight. No poser mega cattle bumper BS. Love it.
It's awesome to see that you have a few little helpers to join you in your fun.
Looks good! Love that you have your kid help you. The best memories I have are working with my dad on his Toyota. Awesome video. I just bought a 4runner so this videos definitely help.
Hey, Justin Hudson from Blue Mountain Beach here. I came across your video as I’m planning to install a similar bumper on my 4Runner XP Gunner, and I noticed you have a Grayton Beach pass on yours. Thanks for the great video, neighbor!
Probably one of the first video i watched of you. Welcome back.
Just got a 4Runner of my own. 2015 SR5. Very talented video editing here I enjoyed it
Awesome, one of your best videos! Your kids are the best!
Great vlog as always. love your style showing mistakes that others would edit out. Its greatly appreciated.
Another great video.... man, you certainly are a patient individual. I would have looked at the directions and thrown in the towel. All that, AND filming. Got skills brother!
Hey, Jason. Fellow Utahn here, just started following your channel. Very cool rig, I recently bought a 2010 Trail Edition w/ 3” OME BP51 suspension. The first trail I’m going to tackle will be Elephant Hill, got overnight permits for the end of September. Can’t wait.
I was impressed how you just whizzed yourself thru this for a first time project, even more so when your project was a success, then..."The Winch"...I don't know...a smart guy like you should have caught that a bit sooner, other than that, thank you for the entertainment, I know I couldn't do what you did, that was impressive, thanks!
Lot's to learn but at least you are trying! Good job!
Love watching you work with the big guy giving you directions and correcting you... great team!
Highly entertaining. Ive done so much stupid DIYing my truck. Keep it up
Great video and content. I enjoyed watching the progress throughout. Keep it up
Couple tips...
Don't use your torque wrench as a breaker bar. If you only ever use it for lug nuts, it's probably fine, but if accuracy is important, overloading it can damage the tool. A small pipe on a quality ratchet is slightly better, double box end wrenches (you can lock an open end into a closed end to double the length) is a little better, but a proper breaker bar is best.
On learning how to use a winch and stuff... Join a local 4x4 club, plenty of guys that can help you learn in a safe environment. That winch line could have snapped a ball joint, axle, or the line itself!
Pulling on that log you really didn't need a line weight due to the lack of serious load, but being a new rope, there could have been a factory defect that you didn't see, so it'a always best to play it safe no matter how small the pull!
Keep the video's coming! I look forward to seeing you at Expo East!
You are prime example of the type of dad i want to be!!
You are champion! Great job I would have panicked half way through that install lol! But it looks amazing great job!
Thank you for making this video! i enjoy watching it, nice work!
Great video. Always feel inspired after watching your videos. Waiting for a similar bumper, 4 weeks to go. Thanks man!
I am super stoked about it
That might be the best bumperette winch combo i have seen. Be careful when you winch. A great but deadly bit of kit.
Subbed. Awesome video. That is how a video should be with all the mistakes and just everything put into it. Getting your kids involved. Good stuff my man !!!!
Breaker bars are a much better solution for tight and seized bolts than a torque wrench. Won’t break as easy and much less expensive to replace if it does. :)
Great walkthrough! Thanks for posting!
Funny vid man, nice family you have. Bumper and lights looks super on there.
Congratulations!!!, great job!!!, and great taste. I'm dreaming with the day I can buy a 4runner....
Andres Patricio Obrador I predict your dreams will come true! 🍀
@@Chief_5 wow!!!, thanks for your good wishes!!....
Great vid man. Love how you showed some of the mess ups. Looks like a bigger job than it appeared at first. Also know how much work it is to edit that vid. Nice job again. Andrew Apple pie for the win!
Thanks for sharing your experience with this bumper
Real nice job, Jason! Love the look of the new gear
Excellent, passable family car, for all occasions. Only the pressure in the wheels had to be reset to half when driving through the sand.
I LOVE the look of that bumper! Great job!
Very good video. I think the bumper looks great and I think you hid your excitement well.
Love your videos as always. When I work on my truck, I always triple what the vendor's suggested installation time is; mainly because I spend a lot of time reading and trying to figure out what the instructions say and double check everything.
Wow Sam the cooking guy is into overlanding!
Nice.....did a good job....love it
Hey, check out the Deadman Winch Anchor system. You can find it on TrailRecon vids, and maybe even make your own. For winching when you have no anchor points.
Found your channel today. Was looking for info on the TRD Pro and your stuff popped up. Im in Central FL, going to drive a few options later today. Very excited about the transition from My current Range Rover to the PRO
Jazz hands... awesome
Jason never spool the winch out using the remote you will burn the brake clutch in the winch, turn the lever to free spool and pull the winch rope out then return the lever to winch in using the remote. love your show your awesome
Thanks! Appreciate the tip! Makes sense! Ya know, this whole thing is pretty cool - all I have to do is just do what I think makes sense, and if it's not right, everyone tells me the right way to do it! Pretty fast way for me to learn, it's great! haha
cool vid, man. bumper looks killer!
Looks awesome! Great videos buddy!
These 4 Runners are growing on me especially that bumper.
The amount of time and effort you put into these video cuts is noticeable. Great video, as usual. Also, I've been looking into the same bumper for my Tacoma, nice to have this video to refer to!
Samuel White thanks!!
Great vid. I recommend rinsing/washing your synthetic winch line after using it in sand. After a while the sand can wear down the synthetic line and cut the strands.
Great video. Btw don't use a torque wrench as a breaker bar. You can damage it like that. Harbor freight sells breaker bars for 15 bucks. Love the truck!
Jason, I appreciate you putting up your videos, tutorials and around clips of other owners. Keep up the great work!
Great video and DIY mod! I wanted to do the same Modification and now I’ve seen it done. Great work....
That bumper setup looks awesome!
Lets not over react , that bumper winch, light combo is FANTASTIC:) DAM!
Cool Dragon fly at 7:31. Or was it. Coulda been one of those super cool nano-drones. LOL. C4's competition pulling out all the stops. BAHAHAA
That is a nice looking bumper.
Great job, I like your 4Runner!!
Sweet ride and great video!
The most honest video I've ever seen
If you find yourself removing plastic rivets often, go down to a parts store and get a tool they have for it. It is around 10 bucks and it is nuts how much easier it is with that silly cheap tool.
Love your videos.
i really dig your videos. i have a 2012 limited 4runner and you're giving me some inspiration!
Great video. Awesome 4runner,bumper, and Glock:-) I’m now a subscriber 👍🏼
Love the vids!
As mentioned, glad you show the rawness (is that a word?) of 4 wheeling and learning.
Keep up the work!
awesome video as always. love the fact that you filmed all the "hicks-ups" so that other people can learn from it too.
Great video and truthfull too 👍
I’ll be honest..
i don’t overland, I just go on trips a few times a year, I like the 4Runner for the snow, I like the aggressive look. Put some better shocks to make it a smoother ride and tints 5%.. Ditch lights because I think they’re helpful when driving at night in back roads.
Done..
Awesome, greetings from Chile !
Looks awesome!! Good job.
Cool rig , great footage
Love that bumper!!! Saving for one for my Tacoma. I love the look on that 4Runner
Nice Install and it looks great.
Go to your local Harbor Freight and get a few magnetic catch-all bowls for keeping track of all loose hardware.
I’m more impressed at this guys amazing video editing skills.
Awesome video man! Great editing!
also its good to see people that are not very mechanically inclined do projects themselves, I think its great to show people that with a little time and dedication you can accomplish a lot!
Great Glock also!
P.S. It may be just a pet peeve of mine because it is a very common thing here on youtube but next time you work on stuff i would recommend closed toe shoes. dropping that bumper or winch on a barefoot would not be enjoyable.
Keep up the good content and enjoy the ride!
Enjoyed your video, thank you. Just bought a 2018 getting ideas
Good choice on the Smittybilt winch, I have a 12k X20 on my F150 and it is kick ass. Oh and the bumper set up looks amazing!
It does look awesome.
great looking bumper but the best part for me was your mistake... Had I not seen you do it and talk about it I would have been the idiot to not think and keep driving!! Thank you for being a real enthusiast and teaching some real lessons along the way.
Great DIY installation
Looks great!
Cudos to you for taking on the job yourself looks awesome!!
Also hope you and the family are safe.
The silver handle on the right side of the winch will allow you to free spool your line out
Great job on the vlog. Great editing.
I dont know if it's a midlife crisis or if you are just finally trying to enjoy the things you find interesting. But it's kinda cool to watch. Just try to involve your kids even more. Not that I care to see them but you never get that time back with them.
That kid is hilarious 😂!
Great vid. I'm gonna try to do my own install.
