I love this era of bikes, just after the wild west period with the marin/'frisco bay boys and girls finished, bold experimentation and even bolder colour schemes. To work on and ride, they exude soul. New bikes are amazing, fantastic and sooo capable but they lack "that". Whatever that is.
Gotta love pink! :) Love your no BS videos, I watch yours because I learn something without listening to fluff and filler. I got a great deal on a KHS Montana Comp because it was pink, dude thought it was a girls bike. it's a 1991 too.
I found a similar MBK all-terrain laying about in my neighbourhood, Fun Rider was the name i believe. Frame was green with lime accents and completely battered. Took it home and soon realised it was destined to be a money pit... now it just sits around in the attic
14:55 whoa I have the STX RC and they have the front and rear stamped in them too... mine are on wrong? lol weird. it's original 1996 equipped but I see it. the rear one will push the pads further back on the opposed mounts and the front does the same. the post being offset opposite. cool I have pads coming so I'll swap them then
Yeah as long as the opening isn’t at the front of the pad holder you should be good. Opening at the front = pads ejecting themselves under heavy braking 😅
Now this one is something I can get my teeth into👍 Must be an age thing as these were the style of bikes and frames I grew up with in my late teens into my twenties so it’s great to see any of them ressurected . I’m hoping at some Point you get a Raleigh Chopper,a Tomahawk and a Grifter in to do your magic on🙏 Oh do I miss 1976 when I was 11yrs old or basically the 70’s onwards🙈
This is a ‘91 ☺️ I’ve looked for those classic Raleigh’s before. It would be cool to build one but for me it’s just be a bit pointless. They’re not something I really want to ride unfortunately
I recently built up a Miyata Elevation 400 very similar but used a bmx bar and stem along with building my own front rack from an old folding chair. I bolted a milk crate to it and use it for storing my backpack on commutes and grocery runs. With semi slick 1.5" tires it rolls so well. The only issue is when the front rack is overloaded it understeers like an EF hatch with an H22 🤣 Haven't fallen yet just need to be mindful on turns. Awesome build.
@@MonkeyShred Yes I've never swapped an H22 into anything but I still have my '78 Civic wagon with a 1.6L DOHC ZC 😎 Also just realized my Miyata is an Elevation 500' not 400'. I have no idea what the differences are haha!
@@layspeed ooft nice. I swapped a ZC of sorts in to my 2nd EG. It was the UK version though, the A9. Snapped the cam belt on that engine too 😅 it lived on with a new belt.
It is prudent to align the dropouts before alogning the derailleur hanger. Many times this, by itself, solves shifter missalignment. Great video as usual! I have a bottom tier version called Performer. Heavy/bombproof weird steel alloy used in submarines due to its welding characteristics... Oh, and lime green 😎
the only mbk bike that i remember was a review of one that was red green and yellow and it had a shoulder strap built onto the frame. this was early 90's also i think (could have been mbuk or mountain bike international magazine reviewing it?) they look nice bikes for sure.
I want to build a commuter, but want modern geo, I hate the old school geometry, but a rack like this would be sweet. But haven't decided on anything yet.
bout the front and back on the brake pads. If you reverse them as you did, when you brake, it will pull out the brake pad from the brake boss (?). Lovely build.
Now I see why it understeered. That’s a lot of weight on the front tire to change direction that quickly. Not sure if a different tire would have affected the outcome.
nice build up mate. I would run a 2x chainwheel though so that you can have a closer ratio cassette for better shifting. You're probably never going to use that 44T cog in the rear in your daily riding. Why not a 13x27 cassette with a 40x32 chainwheel to cover all your riding needs.
@@MonkeyShred I was watching Bikespeeds and his take is just put on rust converter, polish it and leave it. It looks far more charming, many people in resto community over do restorations with cheap repaints etc.
hello, I really like this type of handlebars, I would like to know the specific name, so I can buy it! I'm from Brazil, and I really like your videos. hug !
That frame is fantastic...pure Andre Agassi style hot neon 😅👌🏻. The bottle cage choice is also nineties-tastic!
I had the road bike in this colour scheme years back too. Love the pink/purple fade.

Versatile. That’s what they are. Very versatile.
Very cool colors.
They are!
Yeah, short stem and high rise bars are the funnest, coolest, properest set up !
Pretty comfy was to do things.
very cool mate!! another spill yet again :0 ! glad you're okay. bike looks well cool!!
Cheers Gary. Definitely has a bit of inspiration from your cruisers 😉
Another nice build great patina good colour my kind of bike 😊👌🏾
Cheers Rory.
I remember those dia compe v brakes. So flexy and squishy.
Awful awful brakes.
@@MonkeyShred dia compe really pooped to bed on those one for sure.
Nice job! Looks like a lot of fun. Those tires make me think of the 90’s.
The Tioga XC yeah! Late 90s I reckon. My Kona Chute came with the DH versions.
I’m with you about those bikes from the 1990’s. That pretty much the type I have in my fleet of bikes
They’re just great versatile bikes eh!?
Gotta love pink! :)

nice build! Love the colours - will be picking up a pink string paint kuwahara cougar tomorrow :)
Oh nice! As in the ‘string’ parts are pink or the whole bike?
@@MonkeyShred pink with predominantly yello paint strings on top. Unfortunately the bike was stolen the day I wanted to pick it up... shame

Aren’t all bikes money pits? If not I’m doing something wrong 😂
It sounds like it'd be pretty chill having a build like this with which to make deliveries. Where I am, that sort of thing is done by car.
Yeah it’s great. I’ve started doing all my shopping etc by bike. The front rack is really useful for those runs.
Great video as always. Bike looks fantastic even with tossed together parts .
Thanks 👍 she’ll look even better with the upcoming remodel.

18:44 one of the issues with having a front wheel motor hope you're alight mate, stunning bike, love the front rack.
What’s that issue?

That's quite an engine to jam in to an EF! That takes me back a bit!

Steel used specifically in subs? Interesting! Not heard that one before.

Very nice indeed. It could only be improved by touching up all those little paint chips. And the presence of a certain feline of course.
She must have been a bit sleepy when I was filming all this 😅

Yeah if you put them on backwards. Mine have the tabs on the front so the pads can’t pull out.
18:39 Did the lack grip or was it black ice?
Very cool!
Thanks!
Love this bike. How do you deal with "wheel flop" or the tendancy of the heavy front rack from violently swaying to the side when parked?
I just make sure it’s parked with the rack pinned against something 😅
Now I see why it understeered. That’s a lot of weight on the front tire to change direction that quickly. Not sure if a different tire would have affected the outcome.
I’ve done that more times without a rack on the front. It was a pretty quick turn though.

What? That’s a regular 9 speed cassette… a 32T. Don’t know where you got 44 from.
In 1997 my bike came with those v-brakes! They were garbage!! 😂
Yeah I wasn’t even going to bother with them. Won’t even look at them again in the future 😂
ouch
do you think the driven front wheel contributed to your fall?
It wasn’t ‘driven’ at that point so not in that sense. Maybe the added weight. Definitely the sudden turn and wrong tyres.
Drill a hole in the front rack bracket to get the cantis lower down?
You’ve seen my IG story from a few hours ago then I see 😂
I interested in the front electric hub, Any help please? Thx❤ the build
Check out one of my older videos ;)
@@MonkeyShred will do, thx!
where was the bottle cage from again? not listed in the description. thanks
amzn.to/43CKdvd
Where did you get the handlebars? What size are they?
eBay - MX style scooter bars or something like that. I think they're about 760mm wide
Kudos for keeping the battlescarredpaint and not stripping it down and putting new, looks way cooler
I don’t think I could properly replicate the colour and fade so the original paint stays!

whats that big battery on your front rack
We don’t talk about that company any more 😂
Can you tell me how you got the gear cassette off ? I have a similar bike and need to replace the original cassette but am having difficulty.
Brian!
Ditch the knobby tires, they suck in grip on road!
Those look ancient, too
Ah they were just some old tyres I threw on to try things out. It’s getting slicks.

Hey Fabio. All the bike specs are in the description. They don’t have a specific brand or model name though as far as I know.
