This was a big hit for the Mary Jane Girls in 1985..the single topped Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart in April 1985 and remained atop the chart for two weeks. It also reached the top 10 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, peaking at number seven on the Hot 100 in June 1985 and remained in the top 40 for 12 weeks.
As a young woman in the 80's, I can tell you there has NOT been another decade like it!! This was so sexy in the clubs back then!! What a great trip down memory lane❤❤❤❤
The Mary Jane's Girls were Rick James' answer to Prince's girl group Vanity 6, you should check out their biggest hit, Nasty Girl, written and produced by Prince. Fun fact: The lead singer of Vanity 6 was given the name Vanity by Prince, her real name was Denise Matthews and she was discovered by Rick James. I remember pulling up to my college town trailer in my car with this song playing on the radio. I think that trailer probably dated to the 1950s and vaguely resembled a houseboat. I laughed pretty hard at myself picturing the Mary Jane Girls "in my house."

Love this! Love the Mary Jane Girls album ALL FOUR YOU! Fun fact: Lead singer JoJo is singing all of the backing vocals on this song, not the other MJ Girls.
Y'all talking about the cornrows, um, Stevie Wonder was rocking the look in the late 1970s. (His 1980 album, "Hotter Than July," shows him sporting them.) And, take a look at Peaches & Herb from 1979 to 1982. The "Peaches" of that era--Linda Greene--sported the style (check out performances for songs like "Reunited," "Shake Your Groove Thing" and "Roller-Skatin' Mate"). And, um, then there's always the legendary "10" herself--Bo Derek.
I remember when this song came out on the Mary Jane Girls' "Only Four You" album, which my roommate thought was such a funny play on words. Any time we played this song he would hold up the CD case and say, "only four you, count em!" as he pointed out that there were four Mary Jane Girls.

An absolutely terrific "Sisters" tune to hit sometime for a female Friday: "Nights Over Egypt" by the Jones Girls. Smooth, mysterious, late '70s jazzy disco sound from Gamble-Huff's Philadelphia music empire (although the girls were from Detroit). Recently featured in a major movie ("The Book of Clarence").

Man I remember this one on the radio all day. Spring 85
This group was made up by great talented ladies, and the mind behind. It was Rick James. I’m still waiting for you guys to react to his great song Super Freak.!
The best MJG song, Rick James rulez! BTW the lead singer hair style was on Rick but also on Patrice Rushen, Stevie Wonder and Linda Wells from "Peaches & Herb" (btw you should check out Peaches & Herb - Freeway!), it was quite popular at the time.
Rick James's girl band vs. Prince's girl band Vanity Six. The Prince Rock James war was real.
I love the look on J's face!
THE MARY JANE GIRLS!!! YES!!!
Nothing like the 80’s, baby! 🤙🏼
Oh my goodness Jay's face is so funny.
He looks like a little kid in the candy store.
Jays face the whole
Idea 😳😏🤣😂😅🤣
Haha I see ya blushing😊😊
Too much fun!
