I’m 60 and the music I grew up listening to was the best. I wish everyone could have experienced that time in history. People loved eachother, no race problems
God this reminds me of my husband. I put this song on they tape player on our wedding night after we got to our hotel. Married 40 years before I lost him. We would listen to it on our anniversary well into our 60's.
I can still remember riding in the car as a child in the 70's with this song playing on a single dash speaker broadcast over AM..!! Music created back when people still had HOPE that life would be rewarding..!! The overall quality of life was so much better back then..!! I'd gladly give up computers, cell phones, and 24hr shopping to have those times back..!!
“ Good music is good music.” You said it, babe. A lot of us who were around in the 70s are now realizing just how fortunate we were. We just didn’t know it at the time. It was great to be alive and livin’ back then! Keep the vibe going!
Jimmy Stokley, the lead singer and founding member of Exile passed away in 1985 at age 41 from Hepatitis. He was absolutely fabulous! I grew up around them here in Kentucky. They are still making music! You need to listen to their country music!
I live in Richmond, where the band was formed. I have never met any of the current members, but my brother's mother-in-law is friends with J.P. Pennington's sister. We attended one of their concerts with J.P.'s sister. I was a restaurant one night, and Exile's original drummer, Ronnie "Mac" Davenport was in there, so I briefly said hi to him.
Yep, ... which is why the video Thumbnail confused me SO much. 50 years what?! I sadly suppose from a 2024-hyper-current-focus, in a stretch, you COULD sorta say that, BUT for a Gen X viewer that's the difference between a song from when I was 4 to a song from when I was 8. For a music enthusiast, that's a range when MOST of the DISCO era happened from 1974 to that later point of going #1 in early autumn 78. For someone who lived through it, music had evolved so much in those 4 1/2 years. At the same time, the thumbnail worked and got me to watch, so there's that.
Yep, and I guess you classify Exile as a general American music band (all over the place). This is definitely a rock song but they made their career as a Country band. Saw them in the 90s when I was working in radio. A #1 and the 5th biggest song of 1978 in a year dominated by the Bee Gees.
The 70's were great because there were so many styles of music coexisting together and there was something for everyone. Sampling different styles, it just worked
It's fascinating to watch your reaction to this because this at least in my memory was kind of a one-hit wonder but it was during my first girlfriend when I was in 9th grade and she was in 10th grade and we spinned a lot of vinyl but she was always just on fire about this song. It really turned her on. And so I definitely have nostalgic memories about it and it was amazing to see your first reaction to it all these decades later.
I haven't heard this song in years! I need to put in my mp3 player. Back in the late '70s I saw Exile open for Nazareth, what a great night that was. I'll never forget. Great reaction Britt! "His body is here but his mind is on the other side of town". Hahaha. Well said.
This is the most loving song ever. He absolutely loves his lady or wife. He puts her needs above his and knows he would be nothing without her and they are more together than the sum of their parts.
Nice rich full sound. A whole group coming together to make music sounds so nice. The difference in looks between the different band members is wild. It's like the lead singer just dropped in from another planet.
I don't think they got the recognition they deserved coming from a small town in KY . but back in the 70s if you followed them and their music I'd have to say one of the best rock bands I ever heard I use to could name all these on this particular film time has slipped up on I can only remember Jimmy Stokley and JP Pennington. The band at one time was called Jimmy Stokley and the exiles . stokley and Pennington started the band when they was in high school . The Two keyboard players they where different but amusing I don't think they liked each other very much but man could they not punch out some good keys . I always thought their dislike made them better . and they thought Jimmy was eccentric. The one guy always wore everything white with tails . They all had better than average vocal skills very talented.
Jimmy Stokley lead singer from Richmond Ky. Left the band in 1980 and passed away in 1985 from a liver disease. This was by far their biggest hit as it was number 1 on charts for four weeks and was #5 all time for 1978
Generations of people were made due to the hippy love music of the 60's, the rock of the 70's, the rock ballads of the 80's, the R&B of the 90's......... This is a rollerskating song, for a friday night.
A lot of people only know Exile for this one song. You'd never know it but they are actually a country band from here in Kentucky. I was lucky enough to work as the photographer for their 2023 4th of July show and people were blown away thinking that they were more of this pop/disco genre. They still got it, by the way, but the original lead singer sadly passed just a few years after this song was recorded.
This, Baby Come back, the Bee Gees, and others, were the beginnings of the Disco era. Except for Blues and Jazz music began a long slide down in the late 80's, and it's never recovered. It's also the time I quit my music career as a drummer after twenty years.
This, Player, Bee Gees, and Exile were the PEAK of the Disco era. Disco began in late 1973, hit the music charts in 1974, and the New York media considered it a dead cultural FAD by early 1977, BUT THEN the Saturday Night Fever sent DISCO into HYPER-Popularity and overexposure. No SNF movie and the LATE 70s would have been vastly different. Considering this was a September/October 1978 #1, and DIsco DIED in July/August 1979 it's REALLY near the END of the disco era. But the overall spirit of your answer is certainly a cultural expression that matches the opinion of many of us. Peace Out, and have a great weekend.
Many a late night with this in the background back in the day. Love your reaction from a newer generation! Your reactions are the best! Absolutely love your laugh, it is so infectious.
The Midnight Special was the greatest show!!! The Midnight Special (TV series)- The Midnight Special is an American late-night musical variety series originally broadcast on NBC during the 1970s and early 1980s, created and produced by Burt Sugarman.
Exile in the 70's and early 80's was a hit machine with two careers. In America they were mostly a country band but in Europe they were known as a rock band. They left behind a trail of hits but this was their apex.
I was 15 years old when this was released. The 70s were the best time of my life. You young lady are very beautiful, wish you were alive at that time I would have loved to have kissed you all over.. Nothing but respect for you. Fine Dining and loving. 💗🥰🧨❤️
Britt, try the band band Bread(Best of Bread Album). In the "70's", it was the album we put on at the end of the party, when people were "pairing up", and curling up on something warm & soft.(try "Make it with you, or Everything I own, or It don't matter to me, or Baby Im-a want you), either will do the trick. ;)
About to watch. This was a radio-friendly hit that I as a rocker am ashamed to admit I liked back in the day. Edit: Britt, you should have been a child of the 70's. Every day a new banger like this came on the radio and we barely put down our tomato and cheese sandwiches.
The band Exile was formed at Madison Central High School in Richmond, Kentucky in 1963. Richmond is my hometown, and I went to school at Madison Central. I have occasionally run into former band members from Exile. I have attended many of Exiles concerts here in Kentucky. Great band, and great bunch of guys!
I had no business loving this song so much as a 12 y/o when it came out, but this is one of those songs that I can't help but crank if it comes on in the car.
I was a horn-dawg at 6, apparently. And didn't even know it. But I loved this song as a 6 year old. Never stopped. The only songs that inspired my kiddie mind in ANY way like this one: Seals&Crofts Summer Breeze, McCartney's Let 'Em In, Elton's Don't Go Breakin My Heart, & several of the hit songs by Chic. I still got a lot of great music I remember loving in those young, young years, but those ones always struck the child's mind the hardest.
Wow i was 17 when this song came out , i remember going to the high school dance and asking this girl to dance, i can still remember to this day how sweating my hands was from being so nervous lol great memories
OMG! This song is amazing--but this video and your reaction had me howling. "he bent down and got his eagle on". I fell out of my chair. The hair flip, the white coat, the arms swinging around, the blue unitard, and the the voice that you never expected to come out of that man....such a classic in so many ways. Enjoy the day.
I used to drive for a food service company back when this was out and I remember one of the restaurants on my route was a strip club and this song along with Nick Gilder's "Hot Child In the City" was always on when the girls were dancing. So you should do that one next Britt for all those hard working girls out there.😉
I grew up in the seventies and eighties, and this music is always my go to... Never fails to put a smile on my face and takes me back... It's a shameHe passed away, so young 'cause he had such a beautiful voice
This is what a record we took off the turntable in HS, threw it against the wall shattering it, sounded like. Replaced by ELPs Karn Evil 9. Then the party started rocking.
Don't like listening to this song. I was born with parents who both loved top-40 AM radio music. When this tune was constantly played is when they told my sister and me that they were getting divorced. Divorce was looked at much differently in the late-70s than it is today. As a kid, it brought shame - as if I or my sister caused it. To give them credit, they were emphatic in making it clear it wasn't us - and most divorces aren't caused by the kids. I'm one of the lucky ones where my mom & dad still talk to each other regularly. Mom remarried about 4 years later and dad never did. But they grew up as friends, and apparently married out of convenience for the times. But they remain good friends to this day. But yeah - this song just reminds me of what I had to go through as a 12 year old.
Wow I miss the 70’s so bad, Jr High and my High School years the best cars best music ever .I am 63 now and I sat down with a couple of my friends that we went from Grade school Jr.High , High School , and Graduated together and our Senior trip was Marine Bootcamp and had a Lady listening to us and she looked at us and said you guys really miss it don’t you. We laughed and said what the hell happened 😂Oh I forgot the best Clothes as well
I love this song. I heard it when I was young (80s child here) and rediscovered it over a year ago. I think I probably listen to it at least a few times a week. It's pretty killer. Back in those days.. they didn't even have to sing many lyrics.. the music..the sound was just sexy. This song..even if there were no lyrics.. it'd be bringing up all kinds of feelings. Love your reaction!
They were from my hometown here in Kentucky. I got to see them live in concert back in the late 2000's at Lake Reba for the 4th of July. They are AMAZING!!
Parents had a *fit* when this hit the air waves. They considered the lyrics wildly inappropriate at the time.😂 Believe it or not they're known as a country band now. Their genres are listed as R&B/Soul and Country.
This brings back great memories. Walking/and dancing in a ballroom/ with the disco ball over head. I met my hubby in a place like that. Hard to believe all men had hair that long......Women ratted their hair/and wore white lipstick. Excellent song, it was always on the jukebox in these cool ballroom/disco's. Thank you..I so enjoy your personality.
Exile was the only group I've ever managed to see in concert so this brings back a special memory for me. Glad to see the younger generations discovering some good music.
I was 8 yo when I first head it and LOVED it. I never knew what they looked like and last year I saw it and I play it loud ALL THE TIME!. I LOVE the lead singer and also love his vibe!! He does the splits at the end! I can't get enough of it. The lead Jimmy Stokley is awesome!
One of the best records there ever was, my other half was besotted with it and if you listen to it a dozen times you will get to love it also, harmonies are on point throughout the whole record and one that puts the hairs up on my arms every time I listen to it, great to see you understand the music
This is one of my fave videos to watch to make me smile. The singer (I think his name was Jimmy Stokley) in the blue jumpsuit is my fave! His big jumps at the end are my fave. I love this song so much! ♡
They switched over and had success in country music after this. I was born in November 1959, this song was big when it came out when I was 18/19 years old! Those were great times!
Such a great song! Think I may have to put that on my "must plays" for my next DJ gig. Along with King Floyd's Groove Me. I play that song EVERY gig. If you haven't heard it, you must!
I'm 60. I grew up with this..... i love watching these young kids discover great music.
60 here as well. We had the best youth.
54 here. It gives me hope and I love seeing their face when it hits their souls.
56 here. I agree.
62… so glad to have been a teenager/early 20s during the 70’s to early eighties.
61 here - and absolutely agree. The best period for music and its great to see the younger crowd enjoying what we grew up with.
I’m 60 and the music I grew up listening to was the best. I wish everyone could have experienced that time in history. People loved eachother, no race problems
Grew up in the 70s and I get such a kick out of seeing young people dig on real music.
Me too!
This was standard FM radio for us and to see these kids get turned on for the first time is a kick!
God this reminds me of my husband. I put this song on they tape player on our wedding night after we got to our hotel. Married 40 years before I lost him. We would listen to it on our anniversary well into our 60's.
ouch
❤️💔❤️
Please share how you found him. Some of us haven't been able to pick the right one even after 50...
70's ROCKED OUT!!!!! No better decade to grow up in!!!! You would have loved it, Britt!!!!
💯
69s and 70s
This is pure marshmallow soft pappy crap dreck. Go shop at the mall.
YEA!!!!
I concur!
Jimmy Stokely (Blondie) OWNS this song! He sings it like he means it! So incredibly intense and passionate!
❤
The 70's were the best.
I turned 16 in 1970. So I agree!
Hell yeah! ❤️
Best ever nothing like the 70’s music …
70’s and 80’s. BEST time to grow up.
my 20s were the 80s and nothing beats the 1980s :)
The smile on her face says she's hooked on this music and it's great!
The 70's had the BEST music EVER!! SO glad I was a teenager then!!
I agree. I grew up in the 70s and early 80s
I have youthful flashbacks when I hear 70's music... The best!
Me too born in 64 but listened to the radio constantly...no better music that late 60s 70s and early 80s
In a heartbeat! 💓
You betcha!!
Yes!
In the blink of an eye. Click the heels of ruby shoes together 3X...I'm gone!
Me too, get me a time machine!
“ Good music is good music.” You said it, babe. A lot of us who were around in the 70s are now realizing just how fortunate we were. We just didn’t know it at the time. It was great to be alive and livin’ back then! Keep the vibe going!
Good music can only be found in the 70's and 80's (mostly)
What a awesome reaction, the best I have seen in a long time from anyone!!
The 60s had a couple of moments too lol...
1940-1980s, were the best.
Don't forget the 60s as well plus the 90s too anything after that isn't that great
This!!
Jimmy Stokley, the lead singer and founding member of Exile passed away in 1985 at age 41 from Hepatitis. He was absolutely fabulous!

This song was a hit in summer 1978 by Exile...45 1/2 years ago.
Are ya callin' us old...? lol
Yep, ... which is why the video Thumbnail confused me SO much. 50 years what?!
I sadly suppose from a 2024-hyper-current-focus, in a stretch, you COULD sorta say that, BUT for a Gen X viewer that's the difference between a song from when I was 4 to a song from when I was 8. @@jeffreymosher6334Happy to be old lol, we had so much great music the youngsters won't ever discover, and new music, doesn't need discovery.
Ahhh yessss i was a Freshmen in High School when this hit the Radio
46 now. Same age as me! 😊
You are HALARIOUS! I remember when this song was first released. The 70's were awesome!
one of my favorites from back in the day...
The 70s music was the very best. Great rock music, great soft rock music.
Yep, and I guess you classify Exile as a general American music band (all over the place). This is definitely a rock song but they made their career as a Country band. Saw them in the 90s when I was working in radio. A #1 and the 5th biggest song of 1978 in a year dominated by the Bee Gees.
Back in my day..nobody could do you like Exile could do you...hit song
The 70's were great because there were so many styles of music coexisting together and there was something for everyone. Sampling different styles, it just worked
My mom used to rock out to this album at home. I literally grew up hearing this song.
Me too.
Your mom has good taste in music.
I love this girl! She ROCKS!!!!
You rock brother!
In the 80s, Exile had a stint in country music.
I haven't heard this song in years! I need to put in my mp3 player. Back in the late '70s I saw Exile open for Nazareth, what a great night that was. I'll never forget. Great reaction Britt! "His body is here but his mind is on the other side of town". Hahaha. Well said.
The biggest things you need to remember your seeing and hearing them raw with no filters and no voice modulation, and recorded on ancient equipment.
This is the most loving song ever. He absolutely loves his lady or wife. He puts her needs above his and knows he would be nothing without her and they are more together than the sum of their parts.
Yep
Nice rich full sound. A whole group coming together to make music sounds so nice. The difference in looks between the different band members is wild. It's like the lead singer just dropped in from another planet.
He did
😁😁😁
He could drop in on my planet any day!
Yea he dropped in from another planet. I think he was Indian.
This was the only number 1 song on the pop charts but they had 10 on the country charts in the 80's.
The lead singer loves his job More than anyone I've ever seen! He had a right to harm whoever cut his hair!

"Good music is good music", yes it is.
Harmonies like that made '70's music so good. I wish the music writers would work more of that sort of thing back into music today.
Many a late night with this in the background back in the day. Love your reaction from a newer generation! Your reactions are the best! Absolutely love your laugh, it is so infectious.
Another singer from this time you will like and most likely add to the PDC is Eddie Rabbitt.
The Midnight Special was the greatest show!!!

I was around 15 when this song came out. My friends and I would melt at that opening, ending with the "yea-eh." Chills -- every time. lol
I was a 8 YO kid when this came out and I could not understand why all my friends moms got mesmerized when this song came on the radio.
I was about 8 and I got mesmerized even if I didn't know why!
WOW it's great many of the younger generation love our old music I am 78 still listening in Sept 2024
Love this band. Between late 1983 and early 1988, Exile charted ten number-one singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.
The Eagles. “I Can’t tell you why” is a must listen. Much love form the UK
Except everything Eagles gets blocked. 😢
this song was a massive hit! admit it! you didn't think it was a white guy! and that makes it even better!
I'm not certain but I think he was Indian
Sure was
Love your reactions Britt!!! You’ve got an old soul, meaning, you feel good music as we felt it when it came out ❤
I grew up in this era, loved the 70’s here in the UK 😊❤️🇬🇧xxx
I had no business loving this song so much as a 12 y/o when it came out, but this is one of those songs that I can't help but crank if it comes on in the car.
To be fair, hormones are flying at 12.
😁😁😁

You should listen to the extended version. They go back and forth in the second verse.
Forever will be one of my favorite songs.
This song was number a number one hit for a reason! 🔥
You should listen to the extended version. They do some rearranging with some additional lines added. It is chef’s kiss 💋
Thank you so much for the memories...and OH THE MEMORIES ! Lol
I grow up listening to Exile they are from Kentucky
They just celebrated 50 years together the remaining living members
Wow i was 17 when this song came out , i remember going to the high school dance and asking this girl to dance, i can still remember to this day how sweating my hands was from being so nervous lol great memories

So you should do that one next Britt for all those hard working girls out there.😉
Never thought of this as a strip club song, "Hot Child In the City" makes sense. The laid-back strip club song certainly has its place!
I grew up in the seventies and eighties, and this music is always my go to... Never fails to put a smile on my face and takes me back... It's a shameHe passed away, so young 'cause he had such a beautiful voice
I won’t disagree with you Britt, the 70s is the best decade for music Barr none that’s my opinion as well take it or leave it I’m good!
This song played throughout the summer of 1978, reminds me of my college sweetheart.... Some great songs in that era!
1970’s Music Is The Best
A great era for music..
This is what a #1 record sounds like back in the day.
This is what a record we took off the turntable in HS, threw it against the wall shattering it, sounded like. Replaced by ELPs Karn Evil 9. Then the party started rocking.
I love your reviews and your on point and love your attitude and you can reconize great music, thank you.

Britt, YOU LADY, are the BEST at detail, I love your review, GOD BLESS YOU AN FAMILY!!!!!!
Got to give you likes, props and thanks. My mom played this relentlessly when I was a kid so Ty Ty for the relivin’ and… You rock ❤
Absolutely love this song.
Adam Sandler has a great rendition of this song in Happy Gilmore. 😂

I'm so glad you're exploring these wonderful songs. I was a child in the 70s and there are so many memories! You are a treasure!
Great song from a great band. Love Exile’s music. May Jim Stokely the lead singer with long hair RIP. He went thru so much in his life. Sad
They were from my hometown here in Kentucky. I got to see them live in concert back in the late 2000's at Lake Reba for the 4th of July. They are AMAZING!!
One of my favorites..... along the same line of groove....Hot Chocolate-"Everyone's a Winner"
You'll love it
70s was pure vocals and talent...no over the top synthesizers etc...
I was there and loved it,,, have hundreds on my playlist, get on board yall!!!!
Parents had a *fit* when this hit the air waves. They considered the lyrics wildly inappropriate at the time.😂
Believe it or not they're known as a country band now.
No not every male had hair that long but his was below his belt.
One of my husband's and my favorite songs. We were married in 1978 and had 30 years before cancer took him. He used to sing this to me. ❤
Blessings for sharing this beautiful memory of your man and the music you enjoyed together 😊❤ take care !
Exile was the only group I've ever managed to see in concert so this brings back a special memory for me. Glad to see the younger generations discovering some good music.
Girl not only real musicians but outstanding singers great harmony eyeblinding fashion
"the night closes in" refers to the illusion of the night "engulfing" us .... closing in from all sides.
I play their video all the time in my stereo room. Great production and mood setter.
That guy could just about go anywhere on the vocal scale . He was one of the best male vocalist I've ever heard.
Great song and reaction Britt! Exile went on to become a huge COUNTRY music band in the 80's!
I had no business, at 9 years old, to love this song as much as I did!🤦🏼♀️😂 Here I am at 54 still loving it! Nice reaction, Britt!
One of the best records there ever was, my other half was besotted with it and if you listen to it a dozen times you will get to love it also, harmonies are on point throughout the whole record and one that puts the hairs up on my arms every time I listen to it, great to see you understand the music
Saw these guys in an outdoor concert in Greenville SC
1990 outdoor concert w/Ronnie Milsap Ricky Scaggs & a few others
Another great band known for ballads and harmony together is a group RESTLESS HEART
Nothing sweeter than some 70’s & 80’s songs. Happy you went into the rabbit hole with these great songs.
This is one of my fave videos to watch to make me smile. The singer (I think his name was Jimmy Stokley) in the blue jumpsuit is my fave! His big jumps at the end are my fave. I love this song so much! ♡
"Til the night closes in" is an archaic literary device referring to pre-dawn. Just fyi
They switched over and had success in country music after this. I was born in November 1959, this song was big when it came out when I was 18/19 years old! Those were great times!
I remember listening to this back in the 70s, loved it then and still do! These guys can sing sensual.
Im near 60 and loved this song at the Roller Skate Rink especially couples skating.Alot of us girls were saddened deeply when Jimmy Stokes passed away
Such a great song! Think I may have to put that on my "must plays" for my next DJ gig. Along with King Floyd's Groove Me. I play that song EVERY gig. If you haven't heard it, you must!
I looked this song up and saw somebody reacting to it, im glad some wonderful older music is still appreciated. :)
