      I been in it only 3 years an can do it with my eyes closed, I'm in a fleet though, he did very good though most can't do it at all, I would have done a reversed half hitch though

    Ayy good job mate! The only question i have is why so many parts? With a lock like 4 should be enough right? 😊

    Four part all you need

      It depends on the river conditions.
      I worked for one company twice about 19 years apart & their policy changed from 4 parts being good enough to not less than 6 parts using a thicker line.
      I wasn't apprised of the change until the boss' son got me a written reprimand for using 4 instead of 6 parts.

    "If you wanna get fancy with it" and throws it 5 ft lmao

    • @gwalker173
      @gwalker173 4 роки тому +2

      That was easily a 10 maybe 15 ft throw and doubled up like that is generally harder to throw for some people so that was kinda “fancy”. Plus those lines depending on what line it is can be hard to throw.

    • @brennacanale3731
      @brennacanale3731 4 роки тому +2

      @@gwalker173 negative that throw is simple.

    • @southerngentleman2516
      @southerngentleman2516 3 роки тому

      Lol it was a good throw and not simple for anyone of course if you been out there a while it should be do able I would hope any way. Now it can be tough in the winter with a line that's a little wet and it's cold as shit and your using a line that been pulled tight tight tight several times and you done made lock after lock

    It amuses me when a new deckhand makes a backing or towing lead around the timberheads by going around the back head & then around the front head to get the lead.
    I have to demonstrate that you can get the front head - have the boat fall back into the line to get the lead, using as many parts for the line as needed for local conditions, current & the like.

    • @8dollars276
      @8dollars276 11 місяців тому +1

      Assuming the boat will be shoving/backing into your line, you should wrap up on the head closest to the fitting on the opposite barge, so you don't have to worry about your leads fouling your dogs bc they're running across that head.

  • @timothyboone5003

    Was acceptable until the end. A clove hitch around a timber head is not acceptable. If he had circle the head and clove hitched to the standing part of the line, it would have been better. I believe his best option would have been to use a tugboat hitch.
    It seems in the inland towing industry tie offs to timberhead(s) is the most encountered tie off that’s done incorrectly. This is a product of improper training/ teaching or lack there of. Just like in this video. The deckhand believes he has done a good job as does the camera man. And what he has done may work 100s of times. But the Clove Hitch (2 half hitches = clove hitch) can be prone to spinning around the timber head until it comes loose. Or just the opposite, fouling down so hard that it requires to be cut to be removed. There are much better methods.

      That's just two underhand turns I believe. They'll work just as well as a half hitch from what I've been taught.

    • @GerOffYeWeeBastard
      @GerOffYeWeeBastard 3 роки тому +1

      That last one he threw was a clove hitch.
