      As hard as he was ganking on the throttle he should have been on his back or riding a killer wheelie in 4th and 5th. Have a 95 currently but started out in 89 with a 86 then later a 87.

      If you say the power belt is stuck, and you aren’t hitting the power band it’s because you are shifting that 2 stroke almost like a 4 stroke. 2 strokes need to be kept at high rpm because that’s where the power band is.

  • @harleychannel2158
    @harleychannel2158 5 років тому +94

    There is something definitely wrong with the bike my 500 was a beast. You couldn't give it 2/3 throttle without it lifting. It didn't matter how far I sat on tank it still pulled off the ground with ease. Once a 500 is under load it totally becomes a different animal, and don't always go for high rps.
    To me it sounds like the top end is on it's way out. When you guys were kicking it she looks like my 125 has more compression. When you kick over a 500 with a proper top end you will know it for sure.
    Second I would look into a good set of reeds. Bad reeds can give off some backfires like you had in beginning of vid. Look into a v force 3 Reed system or a boysen rad valve system. I found these both to work excellent on my cr 500.
    Anyway let us know if you fixed it and what the problem was.
    Good luck

    • @bosshogg2852
      @bosshogg2852 2 роки тому +5

      I keep seeing these 500 drag videos recently (I’ve been watching a bunch for a couple days)…seems like most of em aren’t having a hard time keeping the front end down, which to me, is the mark of a 500 not being a real 500. For sure, need new top-ends, plus whatever else.

    New here, found you today from your 2-stroke street trike (yes, I'm from the future and yes you own a 2-stroke trike).
    My riding buddies had a CR500 and Yamaha 490. I was younger and on a XR350 R so I learned to ride hard to keep them from throwing dirt in my face. They could pull away hard from 30-60 MPH but if I kept both carbs at WOT I could stay with them under most desert ride conditions.
    Looking at the type of "2-vintage vehicles" you seem to like you should look for a XR350 R to restore and enjoy. Honda was ahead of the pack with this 4-stroke beast, when everything was still 2-stroke.
    The XR350 R was built to win the Baja 1000 (but never did) by requiring less fuel stops than the competition. 1 cylinder 4 valves 2 carbs and dual exhaust made the 350 strong enough to rip across the desert at 100+MPH.
    I rode the CR500 whenever I could, and it is officially a manly man's bike with insane power.

      Yeah. The last time I was holding onto my dad's Mach Z, I forgot how freaking potent it was from our property to the roads, trails, his friends/previous customers to his powersports business he used to own, etc. He claimed he was going 85 mph when I've seen a vid go 120. Even still from 2006/2008 to 2016 or so, it's been a while since I've been on one, but for *1000cc,* it's the extent of a precursor to a Hellcat in sled form.
      A 220 lbs 500cc 2 stroke bike could be very similar. Just lighter, slimmer, more agile minus the skis, etc. Those things slap, both the sled and the bike. I'm grateful to have been raised to this expectation myself, one with taste for my career. Other then that, props to you.

Saves spark plugs and bikes like running that way much better.

    I used to race back in the old days like around the early 70's as late as the late 90's and I had all kinds of bikes and rode plenty of friend's bikes and I kept alive by being the head mechanic at the largest Suzuki dealer in New Jersey.. My first racing bike was a 1974 Montesa . Not the Kappa but the endure type model which was not a race bike at all.But thenI got wiser and got a Suzuki R?400, I forget all of the designations now but suffice it to say that I learned which was the best. I had another R?400 later on which while fast was also not a race bike and I had to extend the swingers on both to get any worthwhile suspension out of them. Anyway, I've ridden just about everything from a Much 125 to a Bultaco 250 and I owned a Maico 500. Hard kicker that. But I didn't really wake up until later on in 1987 when I got my first CR250and the first thing that impressed me was the power band. Same power all the way up from 2000 rpm right up to 9 or 10000 or wherever the redline was. No crazy bursts of power like the Kawasaki road bikes like the 500, (which was nearly unridable) to the 750 H2 which was pretty bad with its 5000 rpm burst but not as bad as the 500. In any case, the CR500 was powerful but too much really. I found that you'd lug it all the time depending on its power all the way through. The 25 was the best for me being slightly heavy at 220 pounds I was not a light rider but found that if you weighed under 200 and more close to 150 the 125 was the critter to ride, of any brand. I feel sorry for you guys nowadays. It looks like you're all not happy with these dopey 4 strokes and who could blame you?Go get one of yesterdays 125 2 strokes and tell me if you don't feel comfortable with that power and if that's not enough, I'msure you'd be happy with most of the 250's in those days. Long live the 2 strokes...a much better engine.

      Not "rev it" but you need to goose the throttle a tiny bit because if it idles too low it can foul the plug. At least that's how it was with my 250. Just goose it so it's just a couple hundred RPM above idle.

    • @hunterlamb5086
      @hunterlamb5086 5 років тому

      It depends on your fuel mixture/jetting and all that, every bike warms up differently, I see a lot of 2 stroke riders let there bike sit and idle to let it warm up, I have an rmx250 and in order for it to 'wake up' I have to ride it and pin it in every gear to clear it out, and once it wakes up the front wheel comes off the ground

    It's rattling because it meant to be REVED, that bike will easily do 100mph on a straight. Surprised the plug didn't foul

    I’m just saying this because of what happened to me yesterday. PLEASE WEAR PANTS! My leg got a gash three inches across and the depth of your index finger deep because I was in shorts. Had to get a mini surgery in the e.r., and I could’ve severed the tendon behind my knee and completely fucked up my leg. One of the scariest moments of my life, blood pumping out of me like crazy. I don’t want that to happen to anyone else so be careful

    Leaning it over to get fuel into the carb is the only way to start these old girls. Oh and what are you talking about? Those graphics are absolutely mint 👌 hold on and make shore you have good health insurance 😂😂

      DeAndre Clarke well last time I checked that was apart of the starting procedure for the 500, leaning it will make shore the float bowl is full and you will be able to see it instead of guessing, unless i used to bust my arse leaning it over for no real reason, have a look into it mate you mite be surprised!!!

    • @Lowkey_DeAndre
      @Lowkey_DeAndre 6 років тому

      Andrew Selmon of course when you open the choke to get it started, and warm up a little. but you never ever ride with it up or you will blow your bike up.

    Hate to tell you dude, cr500 don't have a power band to get stuck. There just raw power. Either it's not jetted right and the air screw set incorrectly,or the reeds are bad. I had one of these years ago, but if you want a power band hit in 500, get the kx500

    For how much work it is it would be well worth checking your carburetor out and just making sure it's clean and checking your power valve because that thing should be staying in a wheelie in every single gear when you crack into it

    • @bricehale6593
      @bricehale6593 6 років тому +1

      Check your Reeds pull the carburetor off pull your reads out and see what the flaps look like they might need flipped you can take them off and flip them put them back on and put it back in your bike I don't know whole lot about CR500 but it's just basic information when when your bike won't hit in the Power Band

    • @bricehale6593
      @bricehale6593 6 років тому

      The CR500 should stand wheelie in 5th gear just cracking into the throttle at a fast-moving pace

      Brice Hale yeah it just doesn’t sound right. It could be as simple as a plug, but the symptoms kinda look like reeds

    • @bricehale6593
      @bricehale6593 6 років тому +1

      Downwiththegreensman J I've never had a CR500 I wasn't sure if they had power valves or not I do know that there's two strokes out there that don't have them I'd say either the carb needs cleaned maybe somebody tried doing a jetting job on it by drilling out the old Jets and they didn't get anything tuned right or has to be Reed's I've rode a CR500 and I'm sure a lot of people have and if you have and you know what you're doing you know that bike will stand up straight in every single gear that much I do know I see how he rides I know he knows how to ride that's a hundred percent for sure but that don't mean he really knows how to ride he might just be too afraid to get it up and every single gear I wouldn't blame him it's a scary thing I've done it and for the most part I do it every single time I ride anyting if it's running the way it should
