    Lang Lang explains how Czerny’s The School of Velocity is fun to play and practicse. He interprets this work on his new album “Piano Book” and describes his approach to the interpretation. With his new album “Piano Book”, Lang Lang goes back to his first love - to the pieces that made him want to become a musician in the first place; a reflection on the music that influenced him most during his early childhood.

    Lang, one of the few pianists in the world who has reached the Czerny’s metronomic indications.

    • @MiScusi69
      @MiScusi69 2 роки тому +33

      My piano teacher explained me that those crazy metronomic indications are the maximum speed at which the etude is an efficient exercise. When you get to a faster tempo than the indicated one, you're just wasting time getting your fingers to hurt.

    • @metalscholarsreact666

      @@MiScusi69 I had a really interesting talk with my piano teacher and she pointed out that the tempo tells you the character of the piece. You should practice the movement of just the arm in that time and concentrate on the harmonic structure. The fingers should just them use minimal movements to pluck the keys while the arm is moving. You shouldn't even listen to the indivudal fast notes, but the underlying harmony. She said to absolutely not practice them slowly, because you will lose sight (well- hearing I guess) of the underlying harmony. It's been an interesting experience practicing that way. I'm only a week in and by no means 'good', but I am already playing the first two at more or less at tempo with a weighless arm and I can do this for easily an hour without any issues or tiredness. It is completey different from how I used to practice.

    Czerny was a very good composer along with being good at writing studies. Dear teachers! If you have pupils with difficulties in moving fast with or just keeping "horizontal" hand-position and free movements. Do consider, that they may have rotator-cuff syndrome, which is not seldom at all. 4 short, strong muscles control the shoulder joint and may be so tight, that they make rotation very difficult. These pupils should be offered an operation, which is done by removing a bit of bone mass in the shoulder joint. I know so, because, i have "been there" and got the operation. Now I have totally free rotation and more relaxed shoulders while playing.

      Chopin Etudes aren't meant for showing off ! Each one of them has their own particular meaning.Czerny studies are ideal warming up exercises for the many piano works by Beethoven and Mozart.

      @@canman5060 You lack a lot of culture, to say such a thing. you only know Op.849, 299 and 740. those are not even the best works of Czerny and some of the 740 are already more difficult than some Beethoven Sonatas and some etudes of Chopin, Beethoven and Mozart are preparation for Czerny Sonatas , Op. 692, 756, 399, 400, 365, 856 and 822 are great works of art far above any work by Beethoven, Mozart and Chopin

      Czeyner La Mente Musical your fanatism is blinding you. Czerny was a better pianist than Beethoven and Mozart, but he was far below as a composer

    Sorry but it s not well played.
    The sound is poor, and the video cheats. Only the 2 study ( left hand ) is good ( with bad sound ) . You think I criticize him? Listen what he does in Haydn sonata in concert, that was really great!
