Thank you Mr. Hideo Kojima. Your games played a very special role in the person I am today. They brought me closer to my father. And even my mother. I was able to share my love of Metal Gear with MGS4 with my brother and he and I bonded over it as a whole. He and I were waiting with baited breath for The Phantom Pain, but unfortunately he passed away April, 22nd, 2014... So I'll have to play enough for the two of us.
I have so many fun stories of playing the games with my father, or showing the trailers or cutscenes to my mom. Or turning my Brother and close friend into MGS fans with MGS4 and MGO2. Thank you Kojima! Always a hero of gaming!

We saw how clumsily it was moving before it stood up, like a giant block of metal with articulators and motors, but after it stands up it moves like a human with really heavy shoes on. MGS was a series I grew up with, and this game came out a month before I was leaving for University. It felt like a metaphorical turning point, my childhood series ending and me leaving it behind to become an "adult".
The line "Memories, I want to give them too you" really sticks with me, I feel that was Kojima's goal all along. So thank Kojima and thank you Snake!

Completed the game and now I have a better sense of whats going on when Big Boss is walking through the hall way. Especially when he transforms to Skull Face. Venom Snake becomes the Phantom of Big Boss... just like Skull Face is just a Phantom of his former self... they're both erased from history. Venom Snake's hard work will never be known... it's been taken all by Big Boss. I hated the plot twist at first but I appreciate it much more now and actually like it. Damn... Hideo Kojima... thank you for this one last epic game.

This trailer reminds me of my childhood. I didn't have much of a father figure so it's Snake who taught me what a man is supposed to be. Resolute in the face of hardship, never scared, always trying, etc. I guess Kojima remembers those of us who grew up with his story, and that's why he made this trailer.

It's the same for me. Played Metal Gear Solid in Jr High when it was first released and played every game since then. This trailer was essentially growing up all over again for me. Fantastic editing, pacing and a great choice for the song. Right up there with Nuclear.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain:
1. Weakest story in the series.
2. Best gameplay in the series.
3. Made me salty after a certain buddy left and after the surprise ending; thus, felt the true meaning of game's title. (Never felt so salty and sad since the ending of Mass Effect 3.) Major props to Kojima.
4. Incomplete game. Gosh darn it.
5. Runs smooth like butter; "Thanks, FOX engine."

ESS That's the things, the story was pretty much all cassette tapes.
I do appreciate this game for revealing a lot of new info into the lore, but only the hardcore fans who took their time to listen to every cassette tape knew about it.
I'd rather have s shit-ton of cutscenes and length into it than just cassette tapes.
Also, the only very-lengthy cutscene was the ending.
Gameplaywise I personally love MGSV. Storywise it's maybe the worst in the series. There's good storytelling in MGSV but on a whole it doesn't come together.

The story could have shown us how Zero changed from hero to villain. Something that the series so far lacked.
Would have been cool if we could have fultoned Skull Face into an unlikely ally for Chapter 2. I mean why not, worked for Quit and she tried to kill us twice.
Chapter 2 should have been about Zero and/or Liquid and his cut Lord of the Flies stuff.
Then there's the stuff with the Tank Huye build that we never got to use. Felt like a Chekov's gun.

Yep, they tell us Zero became evil. Show, don't tell in visual medium. Being secretive has nothing to do with it since somehow someone keeps recording these things.
Quiet did some fucked up things too in the beginning of the game and when she took revenge on those soldiers. Understandable but still fucked up.
I'd still argue giving the player a choice to save him would have made Chapter 2 loads better dramatically. It would have added tension.
Chapter 2 needed a lot of work anyways, now Venom Snake's memory comes back to him out of the blue. It's very unsatisfyingly put together. Quiet's ending salvages the end game a bit.

He turns someone else into a phantom of himself. He takes the medics life and throws it away to accomplish his own purposes. He does the same thing the US gov. did to The Boss in Snake Eater. So yeah, to me, Big Boss totally fell. That's why I don't mind the Venom Snake plot twist. We got to experience this betrayal firsthand as the players. Props to you Kojima.
I think the reactions to MGSV in the future will probably be like the reactions to MGS2: At release, everyone says its gameplay is great and the story sucks, but over time more people will appreciate the story for what it is.

I think it's meant to represent what you can become when revenge consumes you. Kaz suffered from what I like to call "Revengeance madness", so did Skullface. I think a lot of the game is Venom trying to resist the call of revengeance madness.

Okay i was replaying Metal gear solid 3 (out of hype) just before this trailer came out, I just reached Graniny Gorki. The guy that you meet there, Granin, is drunk and starts talking about his metal gear concept having legs. He speaks of "the missing link between apes and humans' and says that this new metal gear is the missing link between " infantry and artillery". Furthermore the name Salehanthropus comes from an extinct species between apes and human which could be called "the missing link between apes and humans". Basically this metal gear is the same one that Granin was talking to Snake about in MGS 3. Makes sense since the Soviets made this.

Also OMG, this new Metal Gear, Salehanthropus or Metal Gear ST-84 for short, is by far the best damn Metal Gear ever designed IMO, beating even Rex and Ray(which, before seeing this new MG, I couldn't decide which MG I liked more, Rex or Ray?). Now it's the ST-84 OMG... Yoji Shinkawa really outdid himself this time. It's like a mix of Rex and an 80's-style Transformer!!
What I don't understand is how they add all these technological miracles that never existed in games that happened after MGS5 (like even MGS4 was not that over the top and it's DECADES later). Especially that Metal Gear. I mean how did they invent MG that looks like REX but can do shit like morph into humanoid gear, whip out a whip that forms into fire sword that breaks the ground and also shoots double machine gun, and then MANY MANY years later the invented "only" REX and RAY? I mean compared to this shit REX and RAY are useless. I mean it makes sense from game desing side but chronologically not at all.

A reasonable excuse to why this model was never used again was either this design was lost and destroyed along with its prototype, or the data was recovered but the idea was too expensive to realize on a mass scale. *edit* After re-watching this I think that part maybe a hallucination brought on by something in the top right when the Metal Gear Stands up. Theories of Theories only time will tell which of these is right,
maybe they erased all the metal gear concept after this metal gear, and big boss created the new first metal gear remembering the capability of the others. is like the inventions of nikola tesla... sounds more futurists than this present

I know it is fiction, but every story should make sense. You can't just say "FICTION" every time something is flawed, there is a evident plot hole or something. Why would anyone make Metal Gear, the most awesome weapon of them all, that can shoot nuclear missles from anywhere, and then kept downgrading it? Each new model would be less and less effective, powerful and useful. Doesn't make much sense now, does it? Explanation provided by ZeoCobra was what I was looking for, even though it's not the best explanation it is at least tiny bit plausible. But still I don't think that's enough-

Am I the only one who absolutely loved MGS3's story? In my opinion, it's the best in the series.
I wouldn't say the best, in my opinion MGS1 is the best, but it is definitely better than the others. To each their own I guess
+Simon the Husky I love all of the numerical games besides TPP because haven't experienced it myself at 2 am yesterday I killed The Boss it was just so quiet and calm didn't it would be such a peaceful battle that felt very long. I am surprised at MGS3 and really appreciate it a lot MGS 2 a different story that has its own theme and appreciate how weird the series has gotten. MGS 2s history of the games release shows it as well that the game is not what we were shown to believe it is. MGS 1 is just a fun action game that gets laughs but also gave seriousness in times. MGS4 is the more depressing stories to end the SOLID saga it shows our main protagonist weaker and seeing his life diminish in the game is something no game really has ever shown to a protagonist a person would care about. Having all questions answered and even though there is too much cut scenes it was filling in as much answers as possible.
Right now I am playing Peace Walker so hopefully there is something to have a blast at doing

Si, ma guardati dei film decenti sant'iddio ... gran saga MGS ma conoscenze cinematografiche pari a 0. Se si tiene conto di quanto Kojima adori il cinema e non faccia altro che citarlo (Iena Plisken, i dialoghi di MGS3 ecc.) tutto ciò diventa ancor più triste.

I've only played one of the previous metal gears, but this trailer still made me cry AND IM NOT ASHAMED TO SAY IT. Metal Gear Solid for life! This is one of the best game trailers ever and MGS5 is the best game I've ever played. Whoever's brilliant idea it was to fire Kojima needs to get large amounts of cancer and die.

I dont understand why people are hating this game so much. The story you say. Well the story here have some ups and downs, with a villain that i couldnt care less for, but SPOILERS
the fact that there's another big boss makes so much sense. why you ask me? Well in Metal gear 2 ( not metal gear solid 2) solid snake kills big boss l and somehow he appears after all those years in metal gear solid 4, which means that solid snake killed venom snake, the big boss "twin", the main character of mgs v. As you can see this tied up the franchise. i will not lie certain parts were kinda rushed and we still have some questions about certain characters, but given the fact that konami fired kojima, the man still managed to pull a good game . Was it a disappoiment? no. Did i expect more from a metal gear game? yes. But regardless its still one of my favorite games.
Venom Snake is the Big Boss in Metal Gear 1. The real Big Boss is in Metal Gear 2. After Big Boss was severely burned by Solid Snake, in MS2, the Patriots recovered his body (he was just barely alive), put him under a coma and froze his body. EVA rebuilds his body during MGS4 and toward the end of that game Big Boss is able to awaken. (the Metal Gear Wikia is SUPER wordy)
Yeah. That was the real Big Boss in Metal Gear Two. The fake Big Boss is in Metal Gear 1. Hence why Big Boss returned after being blown up in Metal Gear 1. Big Boss in Metal Gear 4 is the real Big Boss. He was just "put back together" by the patriots.
@mercprom finally found one who thinks like me goddamit. is it so hard to understand that this game is at the moment gameplaywise the best mgs in the series, not only for metal gear, for all action and the most for stealth games. okay the story is like you said sometimes better sometimes a little bit boring. but really mgs was not always all about story and bosses, gameplay was always revelutionary too, and this is in this game again revelutionary. it is not the best mgs in my opinion but still better then some other mgs games. overall some of the best games i have ever played.
