In The Phantom Pain, players take the role of Punished/Venom Snake (also known by his alias Big Boss) in a massive collection of open-world environments. The gameplay elements were largely unchanged from Ground Zeroes, meaning that players will have to sneak from several points in the game world, avoiding enemy guards, and remaining undetected. Included in Snake's repertoire are binoculars, maps, pistols, assault rifles and explosives. Following one of the series traditions, The Phantom Pain encourages players to progress through the game without killing, using non-lethal weapons such as tranquilizer darts to subdue enemies. Players may traverse the game world with vehicles such as cars and tanks, in addition to traveling on foot or on horseback, and as certain locations are mountainous, players can opt to scale a rock face as a short cut. They may also call for friendly helicopter support against enemy soldiers in a combat alert or send commandos to scout a target area. Snake can also call on AI companions-including Quiet, a silent female sniper with supernatural abilities; D-Horse, a horse with a customizable saddle for carrying more equipment in the field; D-Walker, a manned, highly agile mobile weapons platform that can provide heavy weapons support; and DD, a trained wolf acquired on the battlefield of war-torn Africa as a pup and trained on the new Mother Base-to assist him in the field. The companions' abilities and their effectiveness will depend on the player's relationship with them.
As in Peace Walker, The Phantom Pain will offer a base-building feature that allows players to develop weapons and items from their home base. Recruitment of enemy soldiers and prisoners has also returned for this purpose, allowing the base to grow through organization. The player is given the option to access their base from their real-life smartphones and other devices via a companion app. Unlike in Peace Walker where players can only see Mother Base from the air, they can control Snake as he explores the complex on foot. The Fulton surface-to-air recovery system, an item introduced into gameplay in Peace Walker, returns as well, with players now able to transport captured soldiers and other objects such as animals and vehicles back to Mother Base. Money for upgrading Mother Base's defences and technology can be collected from objects found all over the map, such as diamonds, shipping containers, and special blueprint boxes. The income is invested on upgrades to the appearance and abilities, weapons and equipment of Snake, his AI companions, and vehicles. For example, Snake's prosthetic arm can be modified with a taser, echolocation function, or remote controls that allow it to fly as a drone.
The enemy AI has also improved in terms of situational awareness. If players frequently use particular weapons or tactics to subdue enemy soldiers, repeats of the mission will see the enemy increase in numbers and be outfitted with better equipment; for example, the frequent use of headshots will see enemy soldiers don metal helmets to make targeting the head harder.
Series director Hideo Kojima revealed that the game has a new day-and-night cycle that runs in real-time, and that the time taken to travel from one location to another will affect the time of day when the player arrives at their destination. The cycle also fasts-forwards when Snake lights a "Phantom Cigar", a type of electronic cigar; a digital silver Seiko watch panel appears on screen to denote time. The passage of time enables players to analyze the movement of marked enemy forces in the area, such as shifts in sentry patrols and individual patrol routes. Weather effects, such as sandstorms and rain, will also affect the gameplay environment.

IKR; this is SO STUPID. A better excuse would be that it's a psychological tactic she came up with, because he's so dehydrated that she's probably going loopy. "Breathing through her skin" doesn't even make any sense; I've just read why she does so, and I don't see why they didn't just make her wear a sleeveless Vest & Combat Shorts (as that'd be more sensible and still give her enough exposed flesh to not make her come off like a slutty porn character).

Although, and I fully submit to appearing like a total imbecile but, what exactly was the deal with Quiet's spasming towards the end?
I mean if she hadn't been squirming so much then the snake's attention likely wouldn't have been attracted, and thus Big Boss wouldn't have been poisoned, and thus been in a state to at least answer the radio.
So what happened? It can't have been from the pain of her injuries, because in my experience people in pain don't tend to move MORE, and failing that, Quiet's been through HELLA worse by this point, no way she has such a low pain threshhold.
And I did not see it as her being delirious from a combo of her injuries and dehydration/sun deprivation, because again, people in such a state tend to either cause a great ruckus, or be very subdued, but not both.
So what happened?

They are not bad guys, there isn't bad guys in metal gear, everyone has a different point of view, but yeah, they are "the bad guys" except for miller that doesn't work for big boss anymore in metal gear 1 and 2, and the diamond dogs doesn't exist in metal gear 1 and 2, they were split into outer heaven commanded by venom snake, and zanzibar land commanded by naked snake

Quick tip: if You have have Quiet as a buddy you can tell when to use the kill command (Quiet kills a target) by Quiet’s humming. So basically if Quiet is humming into the radio then Quiet has locked on to a target to kill

I'm here, 6 years after I've finished the game, to remember Quiet, one of the best and more emotional characters in games history.
Usually I don't don't fall for love stories, the romantic ones, i simply don't get caught by them, but that bond she and Venom grow, her sacrifice, and the heartbreaking ending made me more emotional than any movie or book that I have watched or read.
They don't make characters like this anymore man. Such an awesome game. It stills holds up after 6 years, graphics, gameplay, and story. Hideo Kojima made a masterpiece.

I really miss sniping/scouting with Quiet. Hearing her giggle every time she pops a headshot puts a smile across my face. The most fun I've had sniping in a long time. Now i'm just replaying her boss battle every so often, messing around and throwing decoys all over the place, breaking her A.I to the point where she doesn't even care that I sit right next to her shooting the same targets pretending its just like old times ;)

She cuda lied on her belly the whole time until she got tired and then snuck aboard a chopper. But she didn't. She could have stopped coming out to the missions or turned on BB at any time. But she didn't. She was there because she care. Eva had a mission to fulfill.

A good man, a man who believed in helping others, who constantly put himself on the line to save lives, who cared for his soldiers like a father, who were loyal to Big Boss to the very end, played the part of a pawn, coming so close to finding love, only to lose it all to the cruel hand of fate.
A man who deserved better.
I can't see Big Boss as a hero. His long standing quest just cost those around him too much. Quiet deserved better too, her dialogue reveals she was basically empty inside, void of fulfillment and joy, until... yeah, it's really sad. Maybe they deserved each other. Maybe they deserved better than to be dogs of wars, pieces to be used on a board of lies and then thrown away...
For a short time, life tasted sweet for them both. Then they lost everything and had nothing but to act out the designs of others.
It's a crying shame, but such is life. To me, Venom is the real Big Boss.

Just finished her story, and I'm sitting here. Crying. She was such an interesting and fleshed out character, and I love how there was no cliché love story between Big Boss and her, the love story was intriguing instead. She is honestly one of my absolute favorite characters in this series. Damn, I miss her.

arda çetin No, shes dead. Because of the english strain of the vocal cord parasites, her speaking meant her death. She told Code Talker she would never speak English. At first i misunderstood how the parasite worked, i thought her speaking would spread the disease to everyone, but i guess she just didn't want to die, after all, she'd gotten so close to Boss. But she made that sacrifice, for Big Boss. Whether it was loyalty or love, or both even, she saved him because she believed in him. And its gutwrenching to even imagine her, dying, all by herself somewhere.
Truly an amazing character arc.

+McSireson from what I get from one of Code Talker's tapes, the parasite's main method of attack is to destroy the victim's lungs. Hard to do when Quiet's lungs are dead tissue. She is also listed as MIA, making her the only staff member with that status. I'm not sure if that's significant or not. But from what I get, Kojima was resolute on establishing the theme of sacrifice and the pain from the absence of friends, limbs, words, and in this case, Quiet, but he decided not to completely flood us with tears and gave us some evidence pointing to her survival.
+HalfBaked Code Talker also reveals that Wolbachia is a cure that turned the male parasites into females, preventing their reproduction and rendering them ineffective. The only downside from wolbachia treatment was infertility. It's never quite explained why Quiet refused the cure. Miller and Code Talker even ponder about it in Mission 45. sorry if I'm spoiling this or if I'm gettin ranty. Just trying to cope and get my thoughts together. The feels bruh

Favorite character in any Metal Gear game, ever... She starts out as a stereotypical hot quiet Sniper, but becomes one of the most emotionally gutwrenching characters I've ever encountered in a video game... I'm a grown ass man and I cried when I watched the rain scene. Still do. What an incredibly developed character.
quiet is honestly in my top 10 video game characters of all time. shes such a simple character but such a good one.
I think in the end, snake fell in love with her and she was the only one to do this to him. He never felt the same way about anybody and if you look at their relationship from that angle it's quite a good love story. A man with no emotion fell in love with the girl who couldn't speak. And throughout the game we also learn that she loves him. This being said I haven't completed this game yet, watched this full video yet and unfortunately never played any of the other metal gear games but it's my theory for now anyway 😂😂

Quiet's Exit made me really really sad because she's the best battle buddy, and she leaves us after all the combat we've been through together with her. Sure there is a way to get her back, but it's stupid because there is no cutscene or anything showing our character persuading her to come back or she comes back with Code Talker or whatever. At that point imo anything would satisfy me. Don't just make us play the same mission 6 or 7 times and then suddenly she's back to being a battle buddy without any sort of cutscene as to how or why she's back. "reunion my ass"
well, she is officially gone in the story.
but the reason why she can be added back is because this is a game. and freeroam side missions don't have anything to add to the story or other side characters.
you can play with her because she is a weapon. a game mechanic.
Two missing cutscenes, the Shower Scene and Birthday Scene.
If the game plays past your birthday set at the start, then you get a cutscene involving the Mother Base crew, and if you have Quiet, a second one involving her (she shoots at a crate behind Snake and leaves the mark H.B.D, revealing the crate to also hold tons of cigars. When Snake puts one in his mouth, a bullet flies past it igniting it)
The second cutscene is what happens if you haven't washed in ages, you have max bond with Quiet and you return back to base.
(You arrive back at base and everyone is gagging from the stench while trying bravely to salute Snake. Ocelot then walks up with a bucket and prepares to douse you with it. (I think if bond is not max or you don't have Quiet, Snake gets the bucket upturned on him). However, with max bond, Quiet stops him, then drags Snake off elsewhere. Next scene is 1st person view (controllable), your obviously in her cell and both under the shower, albeit with Mother Base personal gawking between the bars.)

I mean if she hadn't been squirming so much then the snake's attention likely wouldn't have been attracted, and thus Big Boss wouldn't have been poisoned, and thus been in a state to at least answer the radio.
It can't have been from the pain of her injuries, because in my experience people in pain don't tend to move MORE, and failing that, Quiet's been through HELLA worse by this point, no way she has such a low pain threshhold.
And I did not see it as her being delirious from a combo of her injuries and dehydration/sun deprivation, because again, people in such a state tend to either cause a great ruckus, or be very subdued, but not both.
So what happened?

To all future players. Please do her mission last. Trust me, I loved the enter series, and i know the complaints of this game, but doing her final mission will give you a better finale to this game. So just do her mission last and you'll feel that true Kojima touch :)

I remember playing this game when it first came out and still to this day she’s still my favorite character of all time, even from all the games I’ve played.

I mean yeah it is really forced how she just leaves out of the fucking blue to initiate the end of her storyline, and it is a bit goofy how this somehow was deemed necessary, but the logic of this scene in particular is just so fucking bad. It was so hard to react the way the scene was trying to make me react when the circumstances are so poorly thought out. This scene really exemplifies just how bad Kojima can get as a writer sometimes, because this was clearly something he designed to be a big payoff but there are so many plot holes involved in this that were caused by sheer laziness that the whole thing is basically irredeemable imo. Like seriously, Kojima is this big fucking military nerd, and kojipro has always made a big deal out of how they get military advisors to assist in the production, but somehow no one stopped Kojima from writing a plot point wherein a character imperils herself by giving a helicopter literal directions on a map, something which I sincerely believe no one with any knowledge of military tactics would ever fucking do, and on top of that the character has to speak English, despite the fact that mother base has a 24/7 real time interpretation service for several languages that most characters can speak at least one of. I hope Kojima has a real editor forced on him the next time he works on a game because Jesus this shit is unacceptable.

Sure she could be dead. Didn't code talker have a cure though? If he wants to return to this character there's plenty of canonically viable room to do so. I just hope Kojima gets to return to her story somehow, there's so much we don't know about her and I believe (hope) that was intentional to make room for a future appearance.
Similarly to how we got a Raiden game, we could get a Quiet game, where you get to experience some of her mercenary work before she's hired to kill boss. Then at the end of that game you get a flash forward where she's still alive as a sequel hook.

I think in the end, snake fell in love with her and she was the only one to do this to him. He never felt the same way about anybody and if you look at their relationship from that angle it's quite a good love story. A man with no emotion fell in love with the girl who couldn't speak. And throughout the game we also learn that she loves him. This being said I haven't completed this game yet, watched this full video yet and unfortunately never played any of the other metal gear games

The game felt so empty after Quiet disappears. It kinda feels like the Witcher 3 where after you finish the story, Ciri, Yen, and Triss all disappear and you can't visit them anywhere even thought they're still alive. They're just gone and the game feels so empty and lonely. Moments like these just break the immersion.
