Well at least we have a video of Eddie in the studio that no one knew even existed! I was too young and had no way of ensuring that the history of them recording would've been like to preserve for all time. I'm glad that someone did. This was very well done! I bought this hook, like, and sinker thinking it was all original. It's OK. It is still Van Halen history that we all get to share!
I wouldn’t say no one, this footage has been on youtube for more than a decade! I do wish that there was audio for some of it, but it makes sense why there wouldn’t be, being that they would have replaced it with the Jump audio.
Eddie's riffs are so unconventional, only he could have figured out what came next. This opening could easily have just been noise or an exercise for any other musician but Eddie took those scraps from fooling around and turned them into hooks. He had this magic as a musician where he drew you in with unique sounds in the opening before dropping you on your head with the main riff (Hot For Teacher, Mean Streets, Top Jimmy, Drop Dead Legs, Girl Gone Bad, Loss of Control, Little Guitars, The Full Bug, Dirty Movies, Hear About it Later, Cathedral, Intruder/Pretty Woman, Runnin With the Devil, Atomic Punk, Ice Cream Man, Light Up the Sky, Outta Love Again, DOA, etc.) OR he would start be hitting you in the face with a sledgehammer (Eruption, I'm the One, On Fire, Panama, House of Pain, Unchained, Sinner's Swing). It makes everything so much more exciting than your typical rock band. If there's anything to take away from Eddie, it's that you should do things your own way and fully commit without second guessing yourself. If Eddie wanted to be conventional then he wouldn't have had nearly the same success or legacy.
thanks! I had nothing to work with really… basically just opened a few guitar tracks and played piece by piece until it lined up. Luckily I have a video-viewer in my DAW so I could get it super close
All of this footage and lots of other footage have all been available on youtube for a long time. They are outtakes from the original Jump video, all silent unfortunately. You just gotta do some simple google searching… m.ua-cam.com/video/5M5dZoKfGro/v-deo.html&pp=ygUSdmFuIGhhbGVuIG91dHRha2Vz
@@Kylemuaythai47-y3q the song wasn’t recorded on the guitar from this footage regardless. it was recorded on his Ripley telecaster guitar with the stereo splitting capabilities.
also, I'm not sure what you mean by the pick grip. He's holding it exactly like he always does; with the thumb and middle finger, and the index sort of on top for support. that's how he played until hand surgery when he started using thumb-index more
this isn’t up for debate. it’s part of dozens of minutes of footage recorded for the original Jump video. I would delete your comment but I would rather inform you
@tanneryordan Well, if it's authentic then where's Eddie's trademark impish mouth shape, slight overbite and cleft chin? Why is this kid wearing sunshades? Most of all, this kid sounds nothing like Ed. This is OBVIOUSLY NOT EVH and just CLICKBAIT to get you hits. Pathetic. Kinda like homeless bums claiming they're military vets and that's called stolen valor to garner sympathy to make money.

Great job! Thanks for sharing
Wow that's fantastic! Eddie looks Cool AF here!
Very cool !!! A song that I always wished that Van Halen would have played on the 1984 tour.

You do know this is fake right?
You did a phenomenal job lining the audio and video together. cheers

Same comment from me!!! I always imagined what this looked like. Total badass!!
How the hell did you find this stuff??...sick!!
Word bruh
He's in the illuminati.
Excellent work my friend, replacing the lost!!
Can’t say you sound like Ed but really accurate on what he’s playing
Not the original audio but still GOLD!!
eddie always said they recorded dry and added the effects in later.....
one of VH's best songs
Incredible
Great job:)

@tanneryordan thanks 🎸👍
Makes it look so easy
Oh wow!
Amazing job! 💪😁
Where is the rest???
this 30 seconds took an hour to make. it would take forever to figure out what else he was playing
Wow! 👏🏽
Where is the rest of this video!!!???
And others???
Someone has a stash!!!

Thx!!!
I think he never did this one live at shows because the solo was in a different tuning and didn't feel like lugging around that double trouble guitar

He looks a lot like Richard Ramirez in this clip
Top Eddie!!!
What’s the name of the footage file?
@@AnalyFuentes-ln6po just look up “van halen jump outtakes” and there is about an hour of extra footage from the Panama video
How about the audio
Holy shit Tanner!! Whaaat? Kick ass!
They can put all that kind of stuff on a blu ray and I’d buy it
well no red light syndrome for the guitar dub, haha- cool
That's not Eddie. Look at the way he holds his pick...
sorry, you are wrong. this is part of a large collection of videos recorded for the original Jump video. it’s not really up for debate

Top Jimmy is the precursor to finish what ya started
same amps on both of those tracks!
Lol no kidding? Huh. So I'm not crazy. Well, I still could be crazy, but not in thinking Top Jimmy and Finish sound like siblings or at least cousins.
Was that a clip of him recording the studio tracks for that song?
He did not use this guitar for that track, so no
Hell No !
what is this song called please?
Top Jimmy.. it’s in the title of the video lol
@@tanneryordan cheeky, ask a dum question i spoz lol
That looks like a Fernandes head stock
both are kramer necks/headstocks. one was an aluminum neck, and the other was a pretty standard beak headstock kramer
That's Tom Weber's guitar!
May have been built for him initially, but the paint job was obviously designed for Ed. I guess I don't really get how that makes it Tom's
Top Jimmy. Way better than Panama or Jump.
Is this really EVH?
the video yes, but not any of the audio
Killer
Read the description people
it’s amazing how you can put it in the title and they still don’t look 😂
This is not Eddie. Eddie would have played it correctly and feeling
did you miss the (read description) in the title of the video? feel free to take a stab at this premise if you want to do it better!
Unless he was drunk
Look closer. it ain't ED.
