Watch as Havok performs sit, platz (down), hier (come here), Fuss (heel), spin and more. This video was recorded in 2014 when I was a new trainer with a limited skill set. My methods have evolved, as any trainer's should, and now incorporate much more positive reinforcement training for puppies. I focus on communication, motivation and relationship to achieve results, so that training is fun for both the dog and the owner. Comments are welcome, but please be respectful. Enjoy! -Amy Pishner (Owner, Head Trainer)

Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

@@jewelbully3383 the video shows and talks about positive reinforcement. The most well spoken and well behaved kids i met, were trained with positive reinforcement and to understand the importance of communication, they weren't hit. On the rare outburst they'd get hit, it was lightly, and way more effective, cos they knew the line had been more then crossed.
Most kids that were bullies at school turned out to be beaten at home, ignored/had lack of parental attention, or had a very strict parent with high expectations.
There were kids that were in fact beaten at home (or worse) and weren't bullies, but those were either bullied or ya never herd them speak at all.
I was hit at first (rarely, i was well behaved), but my parents switched to punishments involving actively correcting the mistakes I've done, taking accountability, and teaching me about empathy: it's harder to f*ck someone over if you stop to think about their point of view.

@@chloepattie8409 I just re-read my comment and it made zero sense. 🤣 Wth? Yes, pups should all be trained as early as possible to avoid problems. German Shepherds and other dogs like Border Collies were initially bred to be working dogs so they are high energy. They require tasks and can master basic commands at 2 months of age.
Maybe some labs can. But you won't hear many owners refer to their lab as their shadow or wonder why it's circling family members or watching the baby without any training at all. It's Me or The Dog shows that no dog is stupid but many have special needs due to what they were bred for.

When you do training are you supposed to use their dog food or actual treats. if actual treats, what's a good one low on calories. I'm trying to teach my pup currently. 8 weeks may be a tad young for her tho. What do I do about her going absolutely insane over the treats I give her for training? I can't seem to get her to settle down. Any help? She acts like she hasn't ate before.

Hi Josh, it sounds like you have a puppy with high food drive, that's great! Use that to your advantage and just feed her regular kibble (no treats) as a reward for training. If she's too hyper for you, take her for a walk before you train then give her a handful of food to help quell her hunger. I personally love working with a puppy/dog that's hyper and crazy for food, but if you're fairly new to training then a slightly less food-crazed puppy will be better for you. Good luck! If you have additional questions, feel free to contact me via my Facebook page @Valor K9 Academy LLC. I offer virtual training that covers basic obedience, home manners, house breaking and more! Amy

Wonderful trainer. Havok is great, too. What a name! German shepherds are outstanding. My grandmother raised them and we always had one when I was growing up. Intelligent. Loyal. They had a stronger work ethic than I did.

They're truly amazing dogs. Havok has an insane work ethic. Just like in this video, now at five years old he loves to train and is very eager to please. Best dog I've ever had. :)

Hi there. I have a puppy he is about 8 weeks old and he's a german shepherd / husky mix. He's a cutie. He doesn't seem to be interested in any toys at the moment but my mom in law has a dog so I'm hoping her puppy will show my pup how it's done ( monkey see monkey do kinda thing) I also was wondering what are some words that I can use . I hear the lady say "break" to release the dog. What are some other military words similar like that that yuo use ? And any tips and pointers for training.
    Thanks, Tara :)

Awesome thank you so much ! Also. My dog tends to pull on the leash when we are close to home, but when we are around the block, he I fine. It's only when we get close to home. How can I stop that. I'm afraid to use those metal collars with the spikes that dig inside the dogs throat. I don't know what to do. :( !

Tell your dog to heel. Every time he or she pulls. Tug him or her. Don't do it hard, just enough to get the point across. You must say heel every time to get your dog to quit. My GSD was bad at pulling when I moved to an apartment so I kept telling her to heel and she got it after a while. Don't be mean but you have to keep repeating it. Good luck!!!

Which is why I'm so against training. A loving birth home environment until three months old, and similar treatment in the new home, ensures a happy dog who enjoys pleasing his human family and doesn't need to be bribed to learn good manners - just like a human child.

The main thing about training is to always use one word commands. To keep a dog from jumping on you say Off! Don't say Get Down or Down. Down means get into a Sphinx postion.

I want a german shepherd but don't know much about breeds or anything honestly.. I want one really badly. Could y'all give me some good information on getting them, and how much I would spend. Also some good tips on training?

Thankyou Amy, I know much of the basic things about their breeds.. Although that website did help a lot with other questions. Mostly I was wondering what sch3 german shepherd was but recently figured it out with a bit of researching. I feel like it's so hard to find good breeders though.. thanks again for the feedback!

Ronnie Steed You're welcome. If you're looking for a sport dog, I recommend finding a local Schutzhund club. They'll be able to point you in the right direction when it comes to breeders, how to get started with training, etc.
