  • The Hagerman Overdrive is a new pedal out of Hawaii from Jim Hagerman of Hagerman Amplification. This overdrive pedal has some of the most dynamic tones I have had the pleasure of testing. The Hagerman Overdrive features a Mullard 12AX7 tube right in the center and it comes complete with an included 9v reverse polarity power supply. This pedal requires 9v 450mA of power and you can not use a regular boss-style 9v DC power supply.
    Features:
    True bypass
    1 x 12AX7, all-analog circuit
    33dB maximum gain
    35mV input, onset of clipping
    180V tube supply
    Non-inverting polarity
    4.0" x 5.0" x 4.5"
    Includes 9V supply, tube, 10-year warranty

    This is going in my favorite pedals of the year list! Let me know what you think. This pedal is a unique circuit and not based on anything else and it sounds fantastic.

      ...yeah...I wouldn't put too much stock in ad copy. There are only so many ways you can drive a valve.
      But that's _great_ news! And here's why: It works, and it works great! This also means that you can substitute a 12_7 tube of different values like a 12 AU7, which is my choice. Or play around with tubes with different gain values. In other words, you can have an entirely different pedal depending on your own tube choices. So that one pedal @ about $200 can give you an added variety of tones and touch response that you wouldn't ordinarily get from your standard ss pedal.
      Pay attention to this one, Shane...you _need_ it. (you know you do...just admit it...go on now...say it!)

    Now that is a pedal that stands out, it added dynamics to the tone Without taking away anything from the guitars
    it really brought out the single coil pickups of the telecaster, I think it would be a perfect match for the tone master, there are countless overdrive’s on the market but this is the one that I will be picking up.
    The opening riffs on the video was exceptional, great feel , Great tone

    I guess it's just something that happens as you get older, but I'd rather hear some light overdrive like at the beginning than too much gain. Light OD just has more character to it and seems to be clearer.

    Cool pedal. Jim has made a lot of cool tube gear over the years. This is nothing new though. There are a handful of tube pedals utilizing basically a nixie tube power supply to generate the high voltage such as Kingsley or Frog Pedals. Frog even sells the bare PCB's if you want to DIY.

    Interesting, but that tube on the outside looks easy to break.

    • @intheblues
      @intheblues  4 роки тому +3

      Easy to break how? It has a roll cage over it for your foot or do you mean some other way?

    • @WonkeyWabbit
      @WonkeyWabbit 4 роки тому +7

      It's only partially protected. It's a foot pedal, not something supposed to sit on a shelf. People trip over on dark stages, and it won't take much to knock and break the expensive Mullard tube. If it had two of the roll bars, one either side so you couldn't get to it at all with a foot, then that would be fine., But as it stands, it's potentially very dangerous IMO. I'd never get one for that reason.

    • @shanewalton8888

      Kinda like SImon here says. I think if I were to use it during the chaos that is a live gig, I might accidentally step on it. Also, being the careless slob I am, I sometimes throw my pedals around and not give them the TLC they deserve.

    • @WonkeyWabbit
      @WonkeyWabbit 4 роки тому

      The Hagerman site says the valve uses a 180v supply. Break the glass and you've got a potentially lethal voltage just sitting there unprotected. I'm surprised it's allowed to be sold like this. I can't see how it could be CE marked for sale in Europe/UK.

  • @guydouglas6094
    @guydouglas6094 4 роки тому

    Just an aside but most important, it is a +ve positive centre power supply NOT -ve centred - don't mix up with your other power supplies or fride 12AX7! Basically, a tube preamp into the front of any amp. It sounds quite good thru the Fender valve amp, what say a digital amp like a Bandit or Champion 100? I give it a thumbs up - good review.

    Great work on the layered track man interesting to see you push your skills. Neat pedal but considering how many gear “infomercial” channels there are seeing an intermediate player pushing forward really gives u a point of diff

    • @Atttuner
      @Atttuner 4 роки тому

      Bloom Tik Bloom fair call... it’s a subjective idea...John Mayer thinks he’s intermediate to Michael Landau go figure?

    • @Atttuner
      @Atttuner 4 роки тому

      I take you point that that’s what intermediate means to you. But you just chose a subjective metric to argue why your point isn’t subjective....if you chose a mean average of the same players based on ability you would find Shane right around the top (maybe just on the downslope ;-) of the bell curve. That’s only one reason why it’s subjective....If we choose expert opinion or certified music school or cross genre versatility standards we’ll get a million more subjective answers. It’s music.... the many perspectives is what makes it so valuable

    • @Atttuner
      @Atttuner 4 роки тому

      Bloom Tik Bloom i see real danger in not giving honest feedback/false praise. If you take your craft seriously you want to know from other craftsman where you’re at. From me from you from many. It provides a check on self delusion and reliable data to base future practice on. If the cost is you feel insulted momentarily that’s a low price for an express route to mastery.

    • @intheblues
      @intheblues  4 роки тому +2

      @Bloom Tik Bloom One thing I have learned is there's a lot of "professionals" in the comment sections that think they have all the answers, yet nothing to show for themselves. No albums, no music, no videos of their amazing talents, nothing. lol. I just do my thing, write songs, make original albums, and make videos.

    • @Atttuner
      @Atttuner 4 роки тому

      intheblues interesting you equate playing ability with “professionalism” and “something to show”....if one chose a monthly jazz set at a lounge bar trio like me another a spray of country gigs at a regional pubs and a third a busker outside a busy subway......no broadcast format no “professionals” right? Would their feedback be genuine? Should they seek to benchmark their craft progression against players of diff outlets? It’s not just a semantic point there’s nobility and real advantages in encouraging each other without hyperbole I understand not everyone agrees. That what makes music great
