with alt-firing modes in Infinite, they could combine the stick detonator and the grenade launcher into an amazing versatile weapon. imagine normal fire works like the grenade launcher, with a bouncing projectile, but hold the left trigger to magnetize the projectile to the next surface it contacts (then release LT to detonate)
As you said, nostalgic fans. Though I will admit that bungie halo had great map ideas while halo 4, 5 and now infinite are not that good but they have well designed maps.
I agree, I liked it. I loved that it had a unique melee animation where you backhand the hell out of someone What if, and this is crazy, it was an equipment that was sort of like a trip mine you could remote detonate
You should do a video on the mantis and why it should return. Not only was it cool to have a drivable mech in a Halo game, but it also had a kick@$$ theme that I'd love to hear brought back in a campaign dlc mission with the mantis itself.
Even though it doesn't really translate into gameplay, I also love when I see it recognized as a grenade launcher that you can literally carry like a pistol. In RvB, for instance, a lot of my favorite sequences involve Felix just whipping this thing off his hip to create a huge explosion at the drop of a hat.
Good video! And I agree. I'd love to see the sticky detonator come back, it was such an interesting and unique weapon to see in a Halo game even though similar weapons to it exist elsewhere (TF2's Demoman has a sticky launcher, for example, has differences because it's not the exact same and is in the context of a completely different game). Before we get a new sticky launcher in Infinite, though, I'd really like to see the return of the grenade launcher from Reach as a power weapon. Also, I feel like a good intro for a video could be "Ascend *Espada theme from Bleach*-perion" because that song absolutely _slaps,_ and it could be a fun nod to the new season coming in October
I loved the Sticky Det because of all the fun shit you can pull with it. Like sticking your teammate with it and having him rush at enemies to blow them up XD
Not gonna lie, the sticky detonator is legit one of my favorite weapons in Halo. Ever. I would kill to get this weapon back. Had so much fun with this thing in multiplayer and forge alike. Just imagine the new things we could do with this thing in Halo Infinite's sandbox... Wasp suicides... Weapon pad traps... Vehicle drop traps. That would be epic. :) Thanks for the great video. As always.
Also, I must answer the question. I think well... It's not so black and white, but I'm gonna say rules make things fun, at least in Halo. The golden triangle dictates all! If everything one shot killed, it might be fun to kill everyone, but it would be broken! You need rules to keep things in order and make things fair to create fun. That's why we need government to control some things, but not everything. It makes everything safe, in order. That's why we need rules, maybe not rigid rules. The triangle is flexible, that's what makes it fun. So yes, rules make the game fun. Would having no rules of physics be fun? Okay, you got me there. But it would still be broken.
@@wesleynichols1873 eh sticky detonator is a power weapon? Power weapon one shots most of the time? Its not like the guy above is asking for sidekick to oneshot everyone.
Another thing I loved about the Sticky Det is that I didn't even have to have LOS or camp my trap to get a kill: just keep an eye on the mini radar screen. Loved it.
I remember you could stick the detonator to the front of your teammates vehicle and then drive it up to enemies. When they went to jump over the hood of warthog you could blow up the detonator and get a hilarious kill.
It is very good in clutch moments when you manage to stick someone with it and take out the person dropping your shields and possibly his backup when you fall back
I wish 343 treats the weapon sandbox in Halo Infinite like they did in Halo 5 where no matter if a weapon wasn't balanced, or didn't even exist in pvp, it was still added to the game for custom games, and because why not?
I agree, in terms of benefitting custom games and forge in general, jus throwing more weapons in Infinite would only make custom games more fun. It's always kinda annoyed me when ppl disagree that a weapon can't come back just because it's not fit for casual/comp play, for Ex. the CE Pistol. I completely understand that if the devs spend time on pointless weapons that are solely for custom games, it would take time away from creating actual viable weapons, but to say things like the CE Pistol shouldn't ever return is kinda lame.
@@kapthas59 well not officially really, it was shown within some concept arts as well as cosplay DIYs but never officially stated by them. I only used CE Pistol as an example bc it was busted af in H5 and I also saw some recent comments saying CE Pistol should never come back bc of how much it would mess up the sandbox, which I think you can agree on is a dumb claim lol
here’s a quick input: Rules can “create” fun. Rules can force a challenge, which is always satisfying when beaten. For Example: Me and my friend on SSBU, Hero dittos, One rule: Top Deck only
Totally agree would love to see the sticky det come back. One thing worth noting though is that there are SO many strong explosives in the sandbox atm. One Sticky grenade is a death sentence for pretty much every vehicle. hydras hard counter air and with no effort you can wipe out light vehicles and even warthogs (and good for cleaning up/suppressing people). Cindershot and spanker can melt anything. And that’s not even mentioning the regular halo grenade play and throwable fusion coils. If the sticky det makes a return I would like to see either regular sticky grenades or the hydra get nerfed, at least against vehicles
I think fun is when you can manipulate all the different factors in the sandbox of a given map and scenario to pull of some unseen plays. The repulsor is perfect for creating unexpected elevation and the sticky det would no doubt be a fun addition
I still stand by this and have people that will vouch I made 343 patch this gun back in the day. I learned flags were physical entities, meaning well the sticky detonator could be attached to them. The second you picked it up tho it was no longer an entity but part of your hitbox. Meaning when I stuck a sticky to the flag it was an instant kill if someone picked it up. I showed a few peeps in the clan 3 weeks later everyone online is doing it, a week after that they dropped a patch to fix it 😂😂😂 it was fun while it lasted
Having it rotate in on the power weapon spawn would be cool for sure. I’d only weary on BTB because vehicles already have such low health and ways to be destroyed. I’d probably just never board vehicles at that point lol. Very fun weapon though for sure.
Could you imagine putting a sticky det on an oddball or flag. The modes already stressful enough sometimes but that would make it hectic as hell and I'm all for it
Didn't know this was ever a weapon in Halo, but was thinking just the other day that infinite could use a detonation-type weapon. It would be cool to make a spike grenade detonator version imo.
I think what makes a gun "fun" is reliability. Both guns mentioned here put a lot of control in the player's hands, making the gun only as reliable as the user makes it.
I personally would fuze the grenade launcher and the sticky launcher together. I would take from destiny for that: when you hold the button down it sticks to any surface and stays planted until you stop holding your fire button. It puts a natural limit on it because inevitably, you will stop holding your left mouse button. And you can't use anything else while doing so.
I'd like to see it come back as a form of equipment. Working the same way as the motion sensor with one input to launch and second to detonate. Balancing would be a problem but it would be an interesting addition to the sandbox.
We need more weapons like the sticky detonator, where it's simple enough for people to use in various circumstances/wacky antics, skilled enough for people to use it and it'll actually do some lethal damage with its blast radius if it doesn't stick. I also wouldn't mind if other weapons were brought back albeit with minor tweaks, and for someone who's favorite game type is fiesta makes the weapon variety more expanded (and not have someone constantly spawning with rocket launchers and getting free kills that's BS). For what we do have is doable for the time being nonetheless.
Sticky detonator is on the top of the list of weapons that need to brought back. Infinte weapons are way to similar so much that the bulldog plays the same role as the assault rifle but just a little better. Sticky detonator is such a unique weapon to use that it would help the sandbox alot and won't back it as much as the halo reach grenade launch does in halo 5 on small maps.
I believe that we need to focus on fun. Unfortunately, as we know, and as this community displays, "Fun" is subjective. But there has been a lot of focus on pure competitiveness recently, that you are correct about, and we need more...silly stuff. Rules can, however, create fun.
Knowing that 343 likes weapons with a unique sandbox function or purpose, the Sticky Detonator would definitely belong and could pair well with all types of equipment.
It ought to be in infinite since it was the first weapon to have an electric emp blast when you time the explosion. Maybe it could lean on that aspect since a high blast AOE would cover cindershot territory so a small controlled EMP as opposed to the random unpredictable EMP field of the electric nades would fit well in the meta
I don’t even need to watch the video. I agree cold heartedly. I have play H4 on MCC a few times, and I find the sticky detonators awesome and funny to use. Just looking at the reaction of your opponent getting sticky by you moments before you detonate it is awesome. Mechanic wise it would make since for the UNSC to have it because of the large vehicle force the Banished have. So it would be another “anti vehicle weapon” but more in the classification where the hydra is at, so it is deadly to vehicles and spartans. Now let’s hop 343 actually looks at this and takes the advice.
Honestly if 343 made a new pro-pipe grenade launcher that had a secondary sticky det function that would fill the niche here and also avoid the overlap/redundance of having both grenade launchers separately.
> But none of that is to say a weapon sandbox can simply be a wacky collection of do-dads and toys. Me going into a FFA Covenant only match on CE's Chiron TL-34: You dare oppose me mortal?
My brother and I used to do this thing with the sticky detonator in Halo 4 forge. While we were building bases with friends, I'd stick him with the sticky detonator while he was a spartan. Then, he'd switch to editor mode, I'd hit the detonate button, and he'd fly over to our friends' base and switch back into a spartan, and blow up in their faces.
FUNction 100% Part of my dream for Halo Infinite becoming the best game in the series is giving the sticky detonator an alt fire. I know that some hate how the alt fire of the hydra changed the identity of the weapon drastically, but to me it is a prime example of adding a feature to improve both usability and variety and I think that the sticky detonator is a prime candidate for such a face lift. In my ideal, the primary fire would be what we are all used to (but with the radar screen always flipped on), you shoot the detonator and trigger when it explodes. With the altfire, I think it would be awesome to load a different grenade that would bounce similar to Reach's grenade launcher. Or perhaps instead have an incendiary grenade that doesn't necessarily outshine the ravager's AoE (that in this ideal scenario would be buffed, perhaps with more range or better damage to compete) but provides another weapon to function in that niche. There are so many ways they could make the weapon really shine, but hopefully some day it makes its glorious return with a fresh alt fire that will ensure plenty more shenanigans.
Damn, I had so much fun playing with this weapon in Halo 4. Although H4' Multiplayer is vilified by the community as the worst of all, I can't deny I had so much fun playing it back in 2012.
To answer the question posited by the video: the end goal of creating fun is the most important _goal,_ but the means to creating that fun needs a set of _rules_ that allow for flexibility in design, and for weapons of similar function to stand out on their own merits i.e. the Carbine vs the Battle Rifle, or the Assault Rifle vs the Combat Evolved iteration of the Plasma Rifle.
I loved the Sticky Detonator in Halo 4. I accidentally discovered a trick to using it, by accidentally sticking my cousin with it when he was running towards an enemy, which then turned into a group of 3 enemies. He was almost melted by them when I detonated it, and the explosion killed all 3 enemies, but saved my cousin. I got a triple kill, and he got 3 assists. They really need to bring it back.
I LOVE the sticky det and I'd love to have it in infinite with a bit of a caveat in the "sticky" department. We've already got 2 grenades - spike and plasma - with a main gimmick that involves adhesion to enemies and reward the player's cleverness with instant kills. As fun as the gun can be, it was kind of necessitated by the context of Halo 4 where there was only one sticky grenade variant and the detonator pistol could shift the power dynamic the plasma grenade can grant. I dunno what a revamped sticky detonator looks like in the context of infinite, but I think it needs to do more than what the 2 adhesive grenades already do aside from remote detonation.
I believe that the rules and function of the weapon make it fun. Like the disrupter is in sense a group denial weapon make the gun interesting and fun to use. But functionally should be a fun experience unlike the function of the ravager where it’s cool but not effective and fun to use. If a weapons job is to fulfill one thing as long as it’s fairly effective and fun to use it belongs in the sandbox.
I really hope they add it into Infinite. Such a fun lil gun. Not everything needs to be a gun designed to fit in competitive and/or balanced for the sandbox. Some weapons can just simply be fun. Period. Sticky Det is easily one of the most fun weapons to have ever been added to Halo. So I hope one day we see it’d return alongside the classic shottie.
Rules can be broken so long as doing so doesn't upset the game balance, and is best done with the idea that you cannot break the same rule twice without changing the rules.

Sticky detonator is such a unique weapon to use that it would help the sandbox alot and won't back it as much as the halo reach grenade launch does in halo 5 on small maps.
I honestly never thought about bringing the Sticky Detonator back until now. Definitely on my Halo Infinite DLC wishlist!
damn early bird to this one, keep up the good vids
I believe that we need to focus on fun. Unfortunately, as we know, and as this community displays, "Fun" is subjective. But there has been a lot of focus on pure competitiveness recently, that you are correct about, and we need more...silly stuff. Rules can, however, create fun.
I miss this gun. I finally started to get used to how to use it last year while playing MCC.
One of the few things I loved from 343i and they don’t bring the Sticky Detonator back…
My brother and I used to do this thing with the sticky detonator in Halo 4 forge. While we were building bases with friends, I'd stick him with the sticky detonator while he was a spartan. Then, he'd switch to editor mode, I'd hit the detonate button, and he'd fly over to our friends' base and switch back into a spartan, and blow up in their faces.
FUNction 100%
Part of my dream for Halo Infinite becoming the best game in the series is giving the sticky detonator an alt fire.
4:20 best part of the video
Tbh maybe my favorite weapon from the 343 era. At least Tammy favorite halo 4 weapon. Would be a great add to infinite
The sticky det and the railgun was always fun to use in 4.
I’d like to see that back as well as the CE Plasma Rifle
I want the plasma caster back, that thing was fun!
Rules can be broken so long as doing so doesn't upset the game balance, and is best done with the idea that you cannot break the same rule twice without changing the rules.
Someone had to say it. I unironically actually really enjoyed this weapon! Good show 🤌🏾
I would always hang on to it, after it ran out of ammo. Always had high hopes of pick'n up more.
