  • In this episode, we have the second part to our Chinatown Food Tour episode.
If you have not seen the Part 1, check out the episode here:
▶️ Chinatown Food Tour Part One: • Chinatown Street Food ...
We had an amazing time at Jalan Petaling Street, trying some wonderful street food. But beyond the food there is also a lot of things you can buy, such as purses, shoes, hats, sunglasses and shirts. This is a great street to visit when looking to buy some souvenirs and knock off brand items.
In part two of the food tour, we had an opportunity to try some famous Peanut Pancakes. This gentleman has been making these pancakes for over 30 years and was still having a crazy demand for these fluffy peanuty treats.
I also got a chance to try Popiah for the first time. These were Malaysian fresh spring rolls and was a refreshing snack to eat. This was followed by me trying Hokkien Mee for the first time. Man, I wish I would have had more room in my stomach for the large order. This noodle dish was a great find and will eat this again.
And the final item was something I wanted to try when coming to this Chinatown. I got a chance to try Tau Fu Fah, a tofu pudding. The silky tofu was warm and smooth. A little simple syrup to add a little sweetness and this tofu snack was a perfect way to end the Chinatown Food Tour.

I am half Australian and half Malay-Chinese. Although I have spent limited time in the country of my latter heritage, I have such fond memories of the food I tried when I was there in my younger years. Your Malaysia series has inspired me to go back with my mum and further explore the flavours she enjoyed when growing up and the dishes she loves. She was so happy when I suggested it! Thank you for always delivering such insightful, informative content in the most genuine of ways. ❤

Wow, that is simply amazing. I'm so glad to hear you'll be taking an adventure back to Malaysia. Food is very nostalgic and a wonderful way to relive our past. Have a wonderful time going down memory lane and please send a message back and let us know what your favorite foods were on your trip.

something crispy in popiah hmm i know most of them have jicama/mexican yam (altho a lot of locals call it turnips but i don't think turnips grow there) anyways jicama is crispy vegetable doesn't have a lot of taste they usually seasoned it with dried shrimp for a savory flavor.

9:00 In Kuala Lumpur, you get this fried noodle in a dark sauce if you order Hokkien Mee. If you go to Penang and order Hokkien Mee, you get a prawn soup noodle instead. This same prawn soup noodle is called prawn mee in KL.

Thanks so much for the additional information. Started to understand the differences while traveling KL/Penang/Singapore. I think I've become more of a fan of prawn mee versus hokkien mee. 😋

@@grifsfoodandtravel To me, they're both incredibly delicious if done right. As with most foods, the same food done by different persons can mean the difference between an average meal and an amazing one.
