    I use MT Trail for more than 1 year on my hardcore hardtail and they work perfect. I would say that this is perfect brakes for aggressive hardtail as you don't need a lot of stopping power for your rear wheel but you need good modulation for better control.

    Had these on my hardtail for 18months now - awesome. Had to downgrade my rear rotor from 180 to 160, to stop it instantly licking up, works well - more modulation. Be careful with tightening clamps, you must tighten the top bolt first then the bottom. Great brakes overall for my hardtail. Peace

      @@sinterior2626 I am riding a short travel full suspension bike designed for marathon rides and came stock with 180/160 and SRAM G2 R brakes which are very weak. I only weight about 68 kg, 150 lbs. With your 180/160 setup, do both brake levers feel the same or is there any distinguishable difference? My other option is going with 4 pot Shimano XT brakes. Thanks

      @@paulv8453 I'm weighing around 74kgs. On my full suspension 150/140 it came stock with SRAM guideR 203f/180r. I wish they would break so I can put Magura Trails on that. I have found on my hardtail which I use for light trail and cross country the Magura's are leaps and bounds ahead of the SRAM. Regarding feel, when I had the 180 on the rear the brakes felt terribly balanced, just instantly wanted to lock up. Changed back down to 160 with my original Avid brake disc, and the balance is beautiful. The lever feel is really light when cruising on the brake and provides loads of feedback when pulling hard applying the anchors but in an easy too judge modulated way. I'd stick with the 160 on the rear and upgrade if needed. Unless your dragging your rear brake down long descents (overheating) I think you'll find the 160 will be great. Peace

      Thanx for the comments mate... Really appreciate the support... :D
      On my enduro I run some "el Cheapo" rotors. I don't even know the make of the front one (I just liked the way it looked - 203mm) and a tiny 160mm Nano on the back (I also just liked the way it looked) and there is still enough power there. The HT runs a 180mm XT rotor on the back and a 203mm Avid on the front. The HT has better stopping power than the Enduro to be fair.
      I am going to replace the rotors on the enduro in the next few weeks to Magura rotors (203mm up front and a 180mm on the back) as I have a big trip planned for the middle of the year. So I'll do a review on those once they've been run for a bit...

      Given the option... I'd stay on the MT's... Although it depends on which MT's you have. The 5's (?) are a bit binary - or at least from what I've heard... But the 7's and Trail sports are a smidge better... IMHO.

    • @TrailTales
      @TrailTales  2 роки тому

      Cheers mate... I run 203's up front on both bikes (el-cheapo light weight on the enduro and avic on the HT) and on the rear 160mm dartmoore nano on the enduro and 180mm shimano XT on the HT. The pads last longer on the HT and it stops a bit better. Both also stop really "smoothly". I noticed on my mate's bike (He has MT5's with magura rotors) that he has a bit of "shudder" on the front under heavy braking. My brother also has this bit of "shudder" on the front and he's running 180mm Shimano Deore rotors. So there's that to consider as well...

I’m currently running Shimano Deore BL-MT506 brake set that came with my bike. This summer I upgraded rotors to both XT (203 and 180mm from 180 and 160mm). That improved them but it’s not enough stopping power that I’m looking for. I’ve been looking into getting the Magura MT Trail and I’m glad I saw your great review. That really helps. It's always a tough one trying to eek out the best on a budget... 've not had a good go on the codes so I'd not like to put my hat on the table as to which is the more powerful... But these MT Trails do a good job at stopping a person. The ability to "add" a bit of extra stop through using the "race" pads is also nice...
      Also... Thanx for watching and the comments...

    Do you think these will work well with a super73?

    • @TrailTales
      @TrailTales  10 місяців тому

      I don't know anything about a super73... Had a quick look online, but couldn't (easily) find the brake specs for it. From the pictures it looks like they use a very different lever to standard MTB brakes... So I really wouldn't be sure mate...

      I do... I am in fact planning on swapping a set I have onto my new bike as I much prefer these to the brakes the new bike came with.

      @@TrailTales that’s good, I have the budget Shimano 4 pots, they stop okay but I’m not a fan of the brake levers, I assume the plastic mounts on the Magura haven’t been a problem for you?

    • @TrailTales
      @TrailTales  Рік тому +1

      @@molley17 No... Haven't have any issues with them. They don't have "connectors" on them though. So you will need additional connectors for your dropper and shifter... They don't cost much though. Around €12 or so...
