In the middle of December, I ran my first half marathon at the age of 14 under 2 hours and got a medal for finishing third in my age group. I'd never ran anything over 10 miles, so running 13 in 20 degree weather was absolute torture, but I loved finishing and being so proud.

Coffee is a no-no before running. It dehydrates you and the buzz from it isn't slow released (like a banana or banana smoothie). Plus, I personally wouldn't run with a sock over my hand, holding a water bottle... wtf? lol :\ You should be able to run for up to 10k without water if you hydrate (without coffee) throughout the day, beforehand.
I can't even go 30 minutes without water, let alone run 10km without water (I can't run more than 3km anyway or I'll die). Yep, recently quit smoker here, who has gained quite some weight :s But I agree that the sock and water bottle thing are rediculous. Usually I just run laps of about 1km and drop a bottle at the starting point (it's in a forest, so no one would steal it).

Actually no. It's been proven that stretching before any work out is bad. It can potentially harm you more than what it would actually help. What you should do is warm up instead.

My family has been involved with track for over 60 years and I've been in track and field for 9 years (Started when I was 9 in club track, currently 18). If I had a nickle for every pulled hamstring I've seen due to not stretching, I'd be a billionaire.
Not sure if anyone said it, but you should never consume caffeine or alcohol before, during, or right after a run. Instead of sweating water out, you'll be urinating every 5 minutes. If you want help running, run with a friend. Guys, running hack: Camelbak, that is all.

The focus trick is my favourite, a thing any runner discovers in grade school. The tennis ball is the next best suggestion(though I do not need it) while the rest are pointless to my situation(and probably any real runner).

All you need for a morning run is yourself. You should have already done the hydration and carbing the day or night before. I don't think you need to carry water with you unless you are going for a really long run. In which case, you just need to take little amounts throughout the run until you are done. For an evening run, you should have hydrated enough throughout the day. For example by taking a glass of water every two hours. P.S: Coffee is a huge no no to running.

The sock as a water bottle holder is something new I learned! I just don't like using it for more than 10 miles because the swishing in the bottle gets annoying. These are neat DIY tricks though
All you need for a morning run is yourself. You should have already done the hydration and carbing the day or night before. I don't think you need to carry water with you unless you are going for a really long run. In which case, you just need to take little amounts throughout the run until you are done. For an evening run, you should have hydrated enough throughout the day. For example by taking a glass of water every two hours.
P.S: Coffee is a huge no no to running.
