- Christians actually say this stuff to atheists! Today, I'll be ranking bad Christian arguments and misconceptions about atheists in a tier list. Want to learn how to talk to an atheist? Avoid these cringe-worthy Christian comments. Want to avoid bad arguments for God? Well, here's why these arguments against atheism will earn you nothing but dumbfounded stares and face-palms.
My goal with this video isn't to mock Christians (aside from John Hagee). I'm sharing this, because I think they/you can do better and I want to elevate the discourse.

Hell was my very first heretical position. I didn’t find it at all in the Old Testament, and Jews have NO concept of hell even to this day.
I found it completely horrific, and completely unjust and tossed it out. I tossed out a whole lot more before I realized it was ALL nonsense.
If one throws out the bad and the nonsensical, there isn’t very much left.

@@jjphank You've made a lot of assumptions in that one comment. On the note of "what happened to make you lose your faith" I personally don't know Holy Kool-Aid's story but mine was not from a singular event but more so a slow and steady drift away as I held the values of truth and honesty utmost from my Christian upbringing (not the only way to hold those values) and continued seeking truth honestly regardless of where it lead. Turns out evidence is the most reliable thing to base your views on and if you're entirely honest with yourself it leads to agnosticism which realistically is the view of all Christians (insert any other religion here) too only for they use the word 'know' incorrectly a lot.

I always reply, heaven for the climate, hell for the company.
'Do not take the Lord's Name in vain' doesn't mean saying 'Oh God' randomly. It means you can't dictate God's actions. A Christian telling you you'll go to hell for X reason is, on some level, telling God what to do and therefore is sinning on some basic level. So, screw what those Not-Christians think.

Jesus taught that there are no good people, that only God is good. So yeah, I'm not a good person and neither are you. We're just people. We are the candles, not the flame. So yeah, your favorite quote is egregiously uninformed.

A couple of years ago I opened my front door to a man and a young girl who asked if I had found Jesus. I told them I wasn't looking for him and closed the door.

@@TheMountainMan-wz8xf It is not valid. Marriage is stupid and many a man or woman have shipwrecked their lives in following the cultural requirement/expectation to get married.
Marriage was perpetrated by religious corporations controlled by wealthy men who needed some 'legitimate' way to have their vast wealth and amassed possession (usually from theft from native peoples or exploitation of poor people) to live on in perpetuity, via inheritances and not go to some bastard child.
Women needed protection and support, because women were 3rd rate not even citizens, who could not owe property, vote, be educated, were not free to move as they pleased or anything else, due to the very low view of women in those times. They HAD to get married just to survive.
Marriage, helped the churches grow and solidify their power.
Marriage created the family unit, and the married couple, being bound together, were expected to have lots of kids. As a unit, the family would go to church with the kids to ensure that the churches would never be short of stock to stoke the fires of their power and wealth.
As a Christian myself, I cant help but agree with you with this whole thing. It's literally bonkers to me how some Christians can't wrap their heads around other people having different belief systems or lack thereof. Christianity isn't the default for anyone, its one of many belief systems, so it's so bizarre to me how so many Christians clutch their pearls when encountering someone who believes something different
@owenallen5733 bro I believe all that, and others don't. It is not YOUR responsibility to "convert" others. Your job as a Christian is to live the example as a follower of Christ, but if someone doesn't believe in God or Jesus than that's that. I'm not loosing sleep over the concept of other beliefs. Atheists literally say telling the "Christ is the only way to the Father" means nothing to them. I read the Bible, I believe in God and Christ's sacrifice, but, GASP, other people don't, and that's just how it is

I see your point, and especially why you want to voice it, after watching such a well done, thoughtful video.
However, this isn't completely intellectually honest. If you are a bible believing Christian, than you by nature have beliefs, that don't just let you be completely cool with other beliefs.
As a Christian, I believe that Jesus is the only way to Everlasting life. I deeply want all my friends and family to get saved

As a depressed and nihilistic atheist, this kind of positivity is actually really refreshing. Thank you for taking on a lot of these genuinely, because I know so many atheists and agnostics who are just bitter and sad, myself among them. It takes strength to keep going in the face of eternal nothingness, and more to turn around and find meaning in the world around you despite all the horrors around every corner.
I highly recommend looking into optimistic nihilism if you are depressed about nothing having meaning or purpose, because if nothing matters, our purpose is whatever we make it.

eternal nothingness? there are generations that come after you. my positivity comes from 1. surviving my traumatic childhood and witnessing the kindness of basic strangers 2. that there are future generations who need our help to fight for a better more equitable life. I truly feel my purpose in life is to help others and found that when i was lost and the most negative i have ever been in life it was volunteering to help those who had it even worse or equally as bad as i did through this service and witnessing this kindness that wasn't for pr or because god told them to do it really changed my life it showed me that the kindest people were still out there for me to meet and i could donate the only thing i had which was time to helping them help others. Do i still get depressed and discouraged of course i do i'm human and world leaders/mega corporations are oppressive and kill people everyday but if i can help one person or do something to fight against that oppression then i know i will have contributed in a positive way. I hope this helps you in any way.

I'm frankly more than a little perturbed by all these Christians who are only held back from being monsters by their belief in a God
Just like with atheists who were once Christians, and atheists that were born and raised atheists; it works the same with Christians...
It's not that a bunch of Christians have a deep seeded desire to rape and murder, it's just a lack of understanding the atheist perspective.
I've been an atheist/agnostic most of my life, and only somewhat recently converted to Christianity, so it DOES give me a much better understanding of the atheist's perspective. But now being a Christian, I can see the their side too, and yeah, it's just a lack of understanding. The Christians that say what you're talking about, are the Christians that born and raised in Christian homes, and never left the faith. They simply don't understand what it's like to be atheist.
It's such a HUGE shift in perspective of life, that I'm just not surprised that there's big misunderstanding on both sides, ESPECIALLY amongst the people that have never changed from religious to atheist or vise versa.
I just say, "Jail." (It's so much simpler.)

Religion doesnt make people moral, it makes people obedient.
One of the reasons religion is so widespread today is because a lot of the most powerful groups in history used it. Unite the people under a common belief, and it makes it easier to get them to work towards your goals. It's a practical way to run a society, but now that we don't really go around conquering cities quite so much anymore, atheism is starting to grow.

One of the arguments that religious people have frequently accused me of (which was covered in this UA-cam), was that without religion, I have no morality, that we may as well go out and rápe and murder, because we have no moral compass.
The flip side of this is that if you are saying the only reason you have a moral compass, and don't want to rápe and murder people is because a book told you you would go to hell if you do, that isn't morality is it? It's obedience.
I am not saying religious people have no personal morals, I'm very specifically commenting on the claim from some religious folk (and unfortunately it is a common enough belief that people have accused me of having no morals purely because I don't believe in their god numerous times, which is very sad for them). They aren't offending me, they are telling on themselves.

Should have added the argument that, "You'll become religious again when you're older or near death." Everytime I've heard that I've assumed it means all the old people praying in church are just cramming for the final exam. 😆

I’m a current Christain, I found this video pretty informative. It was well put together and educated me quite a bit. I learned a lot about this video on how to have real and genuine conversations with atheists.

I walked away from Christianity the moment someone told me that, because I have Epilepsy, my seizures were me "being possessed by the spirit of Satan," and that I was being punished for "contributing to the evil in our world" by refusing to believe. I’m from Germany and it’s kind of weird that “being an Atheist “ is such a big thing in the USA. Here people would normally just assume that you are not religious or believing. Being an atheist is totally normal here.
That is how it should be in a sane society.
I think god being printed on our money have convinced ppl this is a nation based on Christianity. So patriotic =Christianity.
Similar here in the UK. I am a struggling Christian in a crisis of faith, or perhaps I’m not at all now, certainly, I think a lot of American Christians seem to be a lot more extreme though. There seems to be more hate preached by Christians there. Strangely I converted to Christianity about 2 to 3 years ago but I have been learning about the history of it all and I have realised there are a lot of inerrancies in the bible and tons of different versions. Also there are unethical charlatan faith healers in America who use stooges and mind tricks to ‘heal’ people and loads of desperate and vulnerable people end up losing their lives and money because of it.

I think that part of the problem here in the US is, perhaps counterintuitively, that we dont have any state sanctioned church as many other nations do. Our officially secular government, which does not officially endorse any religious group, has created a sort of free-market approach to religion. Religious sects have learned that in order to compete for parishioners they need to be increasingly extreme, which seems to be why each new religious group/movement is a bit nuttier than the last one.

I remember reading a quote somewhere on the internet years ago saying "getting mad at someone for something because its against your religion is like getting mad as someone for eating a donut because you're on a diet". I don't know why, but it has stuck with me ever since.

I would argue that statement in actuality is reversed. Religion causes violent atrocities and atheism tries to prevent these atrocities through secular humanism and trying to make us all aware that we're more similar than different.
I always found the argument that "If you're an Atheist than rape and murder is okay" to honestly be disturbing and unnerving. If the only reason that you're a good person is because of a fear of some sort of eternal damnation, that is extremely unsettling. So you're essentially saying that you would gladly engage in immoral and depraved acts but, don't because of fear of divine punishment. You should be a good person regardless of your religion.

If there is no supreme moral figure, than it is rational to do whatever you please irregardless of the morality of it.
You and I won't do so because general society has conditioned us to behave a certain way, and you and I will, later in our lives condition other people to behave a certain way, to repeat the general retuning of society moral code. And we won't do so probably because of some genetic predisposition I am too illinformed to know, but the logic is still there.
Just because society tells us so doesn't mean it's objectively moral.

Moral compass is good, it is not very different from saying Christian values. I do not think that any mainstream Christian denomination consider heaven and hell as places. Go to hell is street talk.
I have been an atheist for about 60 years with one temporary lapse. My wife’s father was (by any definition) a truly good person and also a good Christian and I truly loved and respected him. At his funeral I offered a prayer to his god. That god did not exist for me, but was real for him. It seemed the right thing to do at the time.
I could have never brought myself to do that.
At one funeral i was asked to say a prayer, i refused.

My late fater was in home hospice & actually posed the "what if you're wrong" question to me. I flat out told him that was fear mongering, he kinda snarled at me, but we went on about other things. A few minutes after he actually passed, I picked up the hymnal on the piano & started singing "The Old Rugged Cross", which was his favorite hymn, & I sang it again at his funeral. I'm a Christian who watches your content. I like to hear other people's perspectives. You have a funny personality and make me laugh sometimes. I wish we could get together and talk about these things. I'm not a member of any church or organization and simply study the Bible in Greek and Hebrew. I have many reasons for my faith in God and Jesus and am confident in my beliefs, so I don't mind when others challenge it.

I feel like if one is confident in their beliefs and truly believe them, the need to force their viewpoint on others dissipates. The assurance within one's self when they are confident in their belief causes peace and rest. It's almost as if some force their teachings on others to win people over to their POV for their own validation needs.

I'm Catholic and I don't want to force my beliefs on other people. Maybe it's because of my country's culture of religious tolerance but frankly I don't think it's a good thing to force a religion on people who don't want it. After all from an atheist perspective the only evidence of Jesus Christ is a book. I believe in Jesus but I understand others don't.
As a Catholic, the ‘What’s stopping you from rape and murder’ one really gets me. Like, I don’t do those things not out of a fear of God, but because I can’t even begin to imagine the pain that it would cause other people. When people act like atheists should do it because they fear no God, it’s implying that there is only one thing stopping them from rape and murder: their religion. It makes them sound like they would do it if they were an atheist.
My father considered himself a devout Catholic yet he cheated on his family, had multiple affairs, had an illegitimate child, forced his mistress to have a home birth so there would be no hospital records, lied every day to his wife, deprived us of a genuine father figure, yet insisted that we go to church every Sunday. What raging hypocrisy in the name of religion. And that's not even everything he did.

Kinda weird because I feel like more people have been abused by religious people than atheists, in fact they justify their abuse with religion. “God made women subservient to men” people of Islam make women cover up because men can’t control themselves, or that’s what many of them believe. The religions of Abraham were made by straight men for straight men. I’m not a straight man, nor a man in general, why should I follow a religion that was used to justify hatred of my sex? Why would I follow a religion that was forced on my ancestors with murder and war? For religions that loves to follow the Ten Commandments none of them know how to follow them. I was raised Christian and I’m done with it. I’ll find my own path.

In my case, I honestly was never a true Christian. I was dragged to church every Sunday as a child, but I never thought I was supposed to take any of it seriously. I stopped going to church the moment I was given the option to, and it wasn't so I could go out and sin. When people say I just wanted to sin, I ask them "Which sin?" and they never have a good answer.
If you were good people, then you would like the Bible. Good people like good rules. But cheat and lye, you like to. And not work hard and waste time on silly amusements. I used to have a Christian friend in high school. She knew I was an atheist. One time, I was stressed and talking to her about my day. And then randomly, she said “Yea, I don’t really care about you, or want to help you. But God told me to, so I have to.”

Loved the video, but it also reminded me of my worst encounter with such a..devout person.
I was an atheist before I even knew what the word meant, since my parents were never religious and always taught me to question these things.
Fast forward to the end of middle school- start of high school: I was r@ped at 14 and it resulted in pregnancy; might I add it was a hidden one and I didn't find out until it was too late for abortion. Anyway, stuff happened and I and my family ultimately decided to keep the baby (initially I wanted to opt for adoption but when I held him for the first time, I just couldn't do it and to this day it was the best decision I've made).
HS started in Sept, but I didn't go as I was around 7 months in; gave birth at the end of Oct; started going partially to classes Mid-november and full-time in January.
Now here it comes: Around February we found out that my baby has cerebral palsy and I was already devastated. I was on very good terms with my homeroom teacher, she helped me a lot through everything and of course told her about it. All my teachers were very supportive and empathic and the news of my baby's condition spread.
The religion teacher (female to boot, with 1 kid and another on the way right at that time) knew I was atheist from the previous year, and out of the blue one day, she came to class, then straight to me and said "Your baby's illness is god's punishment to you for not believing".
Wholeheartedly, I can say that I've never broken down crying so fast in my entire life, before that or since (and it's been almost 10 years already).
Since the whole class witnessed it, the moment my homeroom teacher heard about it, she did everything in her power to get that woman fired as fast as possible. Unfortunately, she still teaches to this day.
I'm sorry for the long rant and perhaps some unrelated or unimportant babbling. I just felt I needed to get it out of my chest.

Pick any christian and ask them if they are going to hell - then ask them why not. I always find the answer amusing. They either back themselves into a corner with 'faith' or debunk themselves with 'good person'.
I also find there seems to be a similarity between how extreme your view is and how much 'faith' is invoked. The more moderate a religious person is the more they seem to prioritise being a good person. This is of course just my personal view from my own interactions.

What we taste like will depend upon what we've mostly eaten while alive, and of course how we're cooked, what herbs and spices go best with human cuisine, and the expertise of the chef.
After a 'plane crash in the Andes some years ago, the survivors were reduced to eating the corpses of those who didn't survive. They overcame their natural repulsion by treating it as a religious and spiritual act. This may be one of the subconscious driving forces behind the Christian eucharist. In olden days when famine was always a possibility, society needed a context which legitimized cannibalism in these circumstances.
The other not-so-acceptable driver of anthroposophagism was the Roman practice of eating a piece of the corpse of a greatly admired person, in the belief that one somehow "took on their spirit" and became like them. This was fairly common with military people who had defeated a very brave enemy. It's no different to some indigenous tribes who practiced a similar limited symbolic cannibalism.
It's quite possible both these factors lie behind the Christian eucharist, because Jesus as a Jew would not have eaten human flesh or drank the blood of any creature. All cattle beasts were drained of blood in Jewish ceremonies because they believed the life-spirit was in the blood. My own opinion is that the cannibalistic communion can only have been a Roman addition to his teachings. I hope this hasn't bored you.

Prior to Christianisation murder and rape were much more prevalent in societies and the abundance of village raiding campaigns, by Pagans, all round. But sure if that’s what you want to believe.
@@mattymate so the argument may have worked then, but today our society tells us what is right and wrong (mostly coming from the Bible). So I don't need to go to church every week or read the Bible every day to know that murder, rape and theft are wrong.
Additionally, being Christian in no way insures that you choose the right from wrong you are taught. Josh Duggar is a great example. He was raised in an ultra Christian home, and he's a convicted pedophile. (That's not too say that he is one because he's Christian, or that Christianity teaches you should be one-it clearly doesn't.)
The argument that without religion there is no way to have a sense of right from wrong just didn't hold up today.

But there are plenty moral deviations in the present era that have emerged from being unknowledgeable of the scriptures, all of which are taught against in the bible that are advocated for today. I’m not simply talking about murder, rape or theft but deviations of other points, including the sin of lust which destroys many and is largely promoted. Or the murder of unborn children out of convenience for that matter. There seems to have grown a moral grey area and subjectivism as times of church abandonment went on which are beyond justification in most instances.

But the point here is that atheists don't need religion to tell them what is right or wrong. Society does that for them.

I'm not one of those atheists who say all religion needs to go away. If your Christian beliefs make you happy, that's great. One theory states that natural forces over time eventually eroded that beach exactly perfectly for the sand to form an image that happens to appear as a castle. The other theory states that someone that we can't see, don't know, and can't ever prove came along and made the castle. Case one is evolution, case two is design. So as I stated, nobody is arguing that humans evolved from dust. The dust was shaped into a human form by an entity with deliberate creative intent (just as was the sand castle and just as was every organism with its own distinct genetic code).

I wholeheartedly agree that the "You were never a Christian line" is extremely frustrating, but as you alluded to, it's a way for Christians to shield themselves from considering that maybe I left for legitimate reasons.

If you are correct, I wasn't as gullible as I thought I was - what with time, money, earnest prayer, hours of study, and assistance provided to the church and community. Those around me admired that I was on fire for the Lord as I was bold and confident in my witnessing because I always relied on the scripture. I have never heard that compliment before, and I appreciate your kindness.

I was never a christian, was born an atheist, and have always been an atheist, now 40yrs old, still atheist.
It could be that You saying they are Shielding themselves is a way to Shield Yourself. You Act as if there is No Reason a Christian would say this other than to protect themselves. But lets Face Reality, Most Militant Atheists, and None that I've spoken to, have Legitimate Reasons to become Atheists, and Most of You O'd say Were never Truly Christian, and its not to Shield Myself and My Religion from Valid Critisism, or having to Admit People can Leave it for legitimate Reasons. its because You Listen to Holy Koolaid, and Think His Arguments make sense, and won't even Admit he has No Arguments since he simply repeats what he read on Atheist Websites or in Books or saw in Videos.
You even Shield Yourself from People saying You are Ignorant of what Christianity Teaches by invoking Your own Silly Excuses, such as "There are 45 Thousand Denominations, they don;t all Teach what Your Pastor told You in Your denomination. Why not Learn about them?" As if that somehow Proves what You said is Believed in by Any Christian.
I really don;t Think saying "Because You do not Understand what Christianity Actually Teaches, You were not Really a Christian in any meaningful sense of the term" is a No True Scotsman Fallacy.

I ended a friendship a few years ago over "you were never really a Christian." Even after I explained my experiences growing up religious and made it clear that negating my experiences like that was hurting me, he still doubled down and insisted that he was right and I was wrong about my own life. I really tried to maintain that friendship even as he became more radical in his religious beliefs, but once I realized that he refused to believe me when I talked about my own life I couldn't do it anymore.
That was never really a friend.
Atheists who were true and sincere Christians in their heart-of-hearts (etc.) are a huge threat to believers because if that's true, then the thought arises: "If they were really as much a Christian as I am, and they fell away, then I could fall away too." Which to a believer is terrifying. So I understand the emotional reasons (not logic) behind taking that position. They very likely can't even countenance that you were a "true" Christian. The thought is so threatening it can gain no foothold in their mind.
I can easily relate. In fact: I was forced to believe in the Christian God even though I've NEVER EVER really believe it. Didn't make any sense, even when I when I was very little.
I don't blame you at all. Anyone who presumes to tell you what you think/feel/believe etc is not worth associating with. It's horrible losing friends, but when the relationship is too toxic, it's safest to leave it.

I grew up going to church and even as a child I never understood why people had to go to church to prove their loyalty. If god was all knowing he already truly knew if you were worthy of heaven and what intentions you held in your heart. I could not wait to stop going to church, it always felt uncomfortable to me. Everyone sitting and watching the same thing, singing the same songs, just felt creepy.
I don't like going to church. These days I feel like I am walking into a kindergarten or pre-school. It seems so immature and naive.

Actually, the only way to get to Heaven is by accepting Jesus as your Savior. Going to church is just something Christians do because they want to praise and worship God, and also have fellowship with other Christians. The Bible also says that Christians should go to church. God does know everything, but if you are a Christian, you would want to go to church. Although there are many good churches out there, there definitely are some not so good ones, so if you do ever decide to go to church again, avoid those (not so good churches).

I am a Christian and it really gets me when the "church ladies" tell me if I was a full or true Christian I wouldn't do certain things like play video games or watch any movie with over a PG rating. They dont know my journey or level of faith.

I hate that this has to be a frustrating discussion sometimes even today. Exhausting sometimes repeating ourselves.
I'm 75 years old. My deconversion from evangelical Christianity took about 30 years. I asked Jesus into my heart at age 7, was raised in an evangelical home, attended bible school, picked up hitchhikers in the 70s and 80s, and witnessed and gave out the 4 spiritual laws wherever I could. When I could no longer believe in god I cautiously mentioned to a long-time Christian friend that I no longer believed in god, his only remark was "You just think you Don't." What amazes me is that no evangelical friend or family has ever asked me 'why?'. I'm glad I'm out. Better late than never.

When I was a believer, I often quoted scripture or something from a daily devotional much like this. That is because I took the words of Jesus seriously to 'not lean upon my own understanding' and simply believe. Now I think for myself and accept that extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence. This is so liberating to be free of religious dogma and I wish this for all those I care about.

(It stated - 1/ God loves you. 2/ Man is sinful and separated from God. 3/ Jesus Christ is God’s only provision for man’s sin.4/ We must individually receive Jesus as Savior and Lord) I believed and lived by these principles and shared them with everyone I met. Peter, after my many decades of being a true believer I can now declare that I am not and have no desire to go back to my former ways. The biblical promises of freedom, joy and contentment were fulfilled ironically when I left the faith. It is called faith because it is not knowledge. I have no desire to argue about one's beliefs But I do desire to see those I love come out of superstition and live life in reality. It is good to realize that the Gods, including the god of the Bible, the Quran, Bhagavad Gita and other holy books are the creation of man and not the other way around. I am now sorry I spent so many years trying to be a soul winner for christ rather than loving and respecting those people. They were good, kind and compassionate people. I only wish I could apologize

Living in Florida as an athiest with crippling anxiety I rarely open up about my athiesm around people. I've had people in high school try to convert me, and when I refused to say the pledge of alligence because of "One nation under god" that really stirred the pot with people so to speak. Every once in a while things get brought up and I just try to avoid it knowing that a lot of people will try and convert me or just talk down to me. However, I have heard about five these used against me in an argument or said directly to me.

There's one you didn't mention here that I've been hearing and it actually makes me laugh. It goes like this: "You're just indoctrinated by..." The silly thing is that I was literally indoctrinated as a Christian since early childhood and only cast away religious belief by reading various works by scientists, philosophers, other religions and so forth. Is it possible to indoctrinate oneself? Maybe, but I would take that over being force fed religion from birth.
Indoctrination is a zero sum game. Everyone is indoctrinated. Yes, this includes atheists. A surefire sign that you have been indoctrinated is being convinced that you haven't.

Yes, exactly. I was raised in a sort of half-arsed Roman Catholic household (I went to Catholic schools but we eventually became one of those twice-a-year Catholics, only going to church at Christmas and Easter.)
I think that this claim is even one that is made by a member of one christian sect about another.
One that always gets me is, “how will you ever meet a good Christian girl if you don’t go to church?” Who says that only Christians are good, and as an atheist, why would the spiritual beliefs of a potential partner be my priority?
I believe that it is good for a couple to be on the same commun ground for beliefs cause at least you are on the same page, whenever you will have an issue you will both know how to solve it and how to talk it out.
Pretty much every 'good Christian girl' I've ever known has been a seriously dirty, kinky, prolifically sexually active (but hiding it well) 'freak in the sheets'. (90%) OR so completely clueless, uninformed, and MISinformed about sex that they don't know *anything* about anything! (10%)

I witness Christian married couple seeth over non believer couple who aren't married having a good life together. As an atheist you get a free trail on relationship like seeing if both of you got good chemistry with each other and don't forget Sexual compatibility.
If things doesn't work out at least you both know and gave it a shot.
For Christian they rush into marriage and become unhappy once they found out they aren't compatible with each other divorcing is frown upon in that culture. There are many horror stories on how some kids grew up in a Christian family seeing their parents dislike each other for 30 years. It sucks putting kids into this kind of situation because some Christian couple thought that having kids would solve their issues.

Once a Christian asked me if I was an athiest, how I coped with hardships without relying on God. I think the question was asked in good faith, but I wasnt really sure how to answer because I cope in a lot of different ways depending on the nature of the situation. However in almost all difficult situations, I ask for help from people who care about me which is what I told her.

@@Kocicimejdan she asked me what I do when the people who cared about me couldnt help me. That has happened before, and its hard to describe how I survived, but I did.
After a few long-distance solo treks and some tremendous growing experiences in college, I slowly came to realize that I myself was a pretty good person to rely on in hardship. I discovered that I had a lot of strengths and internal resources I had never developed before.

"Theres no such thing as an Atheist in a fox hole." Meaning when the bullets come flying, you'll beleive there is a god. Imagine being so alone that the only comfort you have is God. When you lay down your life, you don't think of your family? Your friends? Your fellow soldiers fighting alongside you?...where are they in your mind? The people who had and still have a tangible affect on your life.
Only in the sense that I would want a god to exist. I won’t change a thing about what I actually believe.
I remember being little and going to church with my parents, I also went to a Protestant preschool. But little me would always think it was funny how the stories would go. Like the one with I think Moses talking to that firey bush. Little me was like “Oh my mans must have gotten dehydrated in the DESERT and is now hallucinating ‘god’ talking to him”. I also found it demeaning when they would try to get us to sing the songs like “my god is an awesome god” etc.
When I got into middle school we’d moved states and my parents hadn’t found a church they liked, the closest one was a mega church which said “woman should be seen and not heard” which my mother did not appreciate. I think that is one of the times I’ve been proud to be her daughter because he apparently very publicly dressed down the pastor. But yeah by the time I was in middle school the scars of religion in my life reared their heads. Because guess what I’m a aroace demi-girl, which was not a great revelation if you were me and had internalized phobias against those particular groups. So that was a whole thing which led me to loathe christianity. Seeing how I treated myself and how other treated me afterwards due to its influence was an eye opener.
I’m now getting ready for college and while I don’t claim to be an atheist (probably agnostic or something) I still feel uncomfy around religious gatherings. I recently went to a christening for my cousins daughter and the panic attack I had realizing I’d be going wether I liked it or not had me freaking out. I’ve now realized that I haven’t healed from what was done to me, and what I’ve seen done to others for the sake of “religious self righteousness”.
All this to say that I’ve gotten the “well if you don’t believe in god why aren’t you murdering and raping people” or the “we only have morals because of religion”. Those are the kinds of conversations I’ve had stuck in a car with my dad unable to escape. I’ve found that I personally feel more safe around atheists and agnostics when it comes to my identity. It doesn’t help that the oldest and sweetest woman in my life (my granny) is an uber religious catholic. She knows I’m gay where the rest of her spawn don’t. I don’t want to break her 87 year old heart and tell her that I don’t believe in her god or anyone else’s. She still slips up when shes drunk or buzzed, “oh when you settle down with a husband” like O-O.
When people accuse me of never having not been a true Christian I say, "You're right, I never bought it, child indoctrination just had me scared shitless."

I wish I had never bought it, but they had me good. I WAS scared, especially when I started realizing I was gay, but I also believed real hard.
I had a similar experience as a child made to go to services. I always knew at a young age that religion and religious doctrine felt fake to me, like I had to put on an act to please my mother and other "believers".

As for question about where I live, it is a country where people from a lot of different countries live, the locals aren't necessarily religious but there are people who follow religion closely because that how they grew up. They are also very reactive and vocal about it. Hence why I'm curious about reactions in general since child indoctrination is similar to a religious upbringing and would bring a good discussion and reaction.

My parents are roman catholic, while they both practice they make me and my siblings practice as well. Religious schools, sunday school and mass. I don't know my brothers real thoughts on religion but my sister she believes. And the way they treat the whole subject I can't have an honest conversation about it and the few times I mention it my mother gives a lot of back lash.
I live in another country so they can't really force me to practice and I haven't told them I'm agnostic. And I don't think I will until I'm comfortable with it because the last thing my mom told me was "you're going to hell, bye". It just turns my stomach when people say things like that, because I live my life as honest and kind as possible.

Autocrats whether its Communism or Right Wingers who are anti Democracy, is Autocracy leads to oppression, whether religious or secular its all bad. My ideal government is Denmark (Social Democracy + Decentralized government) oh yeah, multiparty system voting in Democracy
@@matrix91234 I generally agree (a few quibbles not worth elaborating). I’d add that a defining characteristic is that criticism of the institution is _always_ and _only_ addressable from within. When all challenges from outside the system are considered pathologies explicable within the system, totalitarianism has entered the chat.
The question "if we came from monkeys why are there still monkeys" is very easily answered. Darwin never said that we came from monkeys, he said we had a common ancestor with them which is not the same thing.

Man, I would love to speak with you. I’ve recently deconverted. For 13 years I was a full time minister in one of Americas main stream denominations. This has been a lonely tough journey to navigate. Deconverting has not been pretty. I gave my entire life up to this point to ministry, and walking away from all of it is really hard. It’s what I did to provide for my family, and all of our needs. My entire circle of friends and family are Christians. However, I couldn’t stand behind a pulpit and shout unproven claims at people anymore. Your channel has helped me so much. I just want to say thank you.

The first, and still ongoing, part of my healing from religion is to realise that I'm not inherently evil. It's been hard.

You might want to read the book "godless" by Dan Barker, who was a fundamentalist christian minister for 17 years. I, too, was a fundamentalist christian, who attended christian schools my whole life and christian college as well, and went on a mission to Central America. I was a true believer, but finally after reading and studying the bible for so long, it became perfectly clear to me that it was absolutely, totally false, and nonsense. Accepting that christianity was not true was REALLY HARD -- but you have to grow up. I used to wake up in the morning and go to my first job after (christian) college thinking "I don't know HOW to be a non-christian." You might also want to read Dr. Bart Ehrman's book "How Jesus Became God". Dr. Ehrman was a super fundamentalist who went to Moody Bible Institute and then to Wheaton College and finally to Princeton Theological Seminary, where he got his Ph.D.. The more he learned about the bible the more it became clear to HIM that it was not true.
Now that I'm free of the virus of religion, I'm so much happier. But it took awhile to make the transition.
Very interesting video, would be insightful to see a video out there with the opposing perspective because as im scrolling through these comments there seems to be a lot of misconceptions on what it means to be Christian and Christ like. So sorry for everyone's negative experiences.
