Thank you. As a Yank I always wondered how you Brits found enough shells to shoot a double at four. Never occurred to me that you didn't do a station 8. Even though the shots at station 8 in the U.S. (essentially almost under the birds in the middle) are a bit of a trick shot, they are a lot of fun. Good video!!
Those targets drop quickly at times at Bywell, once my goto range. Here in Australia now we do station 8 as in Usa, I believe target speed may be faster too compared to English Skeet. Funny how I actually used to shoot well in windy Bywell weather (Northumberland skeet doubles champion once in the 90s) I put it down to better concentration. Until one day a squad member pointed out why: the other 4 shooters missed the high bird on station 6 pair, I killed it. I simply put it down to my target didnt drop as much as there's. Until the guy pointed out it didn't drop as much because I shot before it started dropping, simply I shot quicker. It never dawned on me until that day.
Having watched this video I gave this ago yesterday....wow really enjoyed it and my shooting as a starter took a big step forward. this will be my training ground going forward. Thanks Lloyd.
Fantastic video, my dad, myself and my 2 girls have all just taken up shooting and we really enjoy heading out to the skeet layout for a shoot, we can all shoot together and have a good laugh over a round or 2, nice and relaxed with great banter. And of course the the person who misses most has to by the teas in the club house after !
Enjoyed that! After 40yrs of shotgunning I’ve recently got into clay shooting. Didn’t really see the appeal but after some coaching I’ve become addicted to Skeet. I’m a lot closer to being 70 than 60 so I’ve come to it a bit late but twice a week I’m at the clay ground. I shoot on my own and find I become totally absorbed in every aspect of the discipline. After 100 cartridges and more focus and attention than I give anything else in my life I’m ready for home - but I’m back 2 days later. I wonder if there’s a cure for this?
Hi Graham, really great to hear your story. As a youngster I used to shoot ISU skeet with Joe Neville in Tansley, Derbyshire. Joe was a left-hander with a mount smooth as silk and he was the English champion. But the book I read that helped me tremendously was "Skeet Shooting" by D Lee Braun. Like you, he came to skeet in his mature years, but became a great champion in USA. Remarkable story which proves the point that it ain't necessarily a young man's sport. I'm 60 now and getting back to skeet after a gap of 45 years or more. Eyesight ain't what it used to be, but the fun remains. Enjoy your sport for many years to come, my friend! ATB. Neil
Thanks Neil. Today back at Clay ground after a 16month lay off because of the pandemic. Tonight looked at YT and found your comment. It was great to be back!! Stay safe.
Perfect timing. I've only shot ESP so far and I'm planning to try my hand at other disciplines in the next fortnight - one of which is Skeet. I didn't know the format other than you move around the stations, so this was very helpful. Thanks Lloyd.
Another excellent video Lloyd, I quite fancied having a go on Skeet however I was put off because I could never figure it out by watching the shooters on the stands but this now makes much more sense. 👍 Many thanks 😁
Nice vid Lloyd, now I understand Skeet! Cheers always a joy to watch. I've just changed my chokes from 1/4 & 1/2 to Full & 3/4 looks like I will change to a more open choke if I go on Skeet.
No, they are singles, you call for the second bird. I shout Mark just out of habit really. High house pull, low house mark. That's what all the skeet guys at my club call, so that's how I've always called for them.
Thanks George, I specifically didn't speak about lead as the way I shoot skeet isn't necessarily the right, or teachable way to shoot it. I shoot skeet as a swing through bird, and as a result I shoot them a good few yards later than most "good" skeet shots and my lead is a function of gun speed and acceleration rather than measured lead.
@@lloydyp thank you Lloyd for you reply!!! 👍👍👍 I think it would be very good and fruitful if you be able to make one or two videos for beginners regarding different methods of shooting and leads from different stations!!!👍👍👍 Thank you a lot again for you presentations!!! I keep watching them!!!🙂🙂
I have ti be honest, I didnt get quite well if this Is a specific english version of skeet but, in Italy we also shoot in the middle central position, right in between the machines. Btw you have to keep the gun wood much more lower when calling, you are almost starting ore aiming
Nice to see. I knew english skeet is shot gun up, but am I correct in that there is no delay after the call, as there is in ISSF skeet ? As always an excellent video, easy to understand
Any recommendations for a Skeet gun. Don’t want to spend a fortune as I only do it for fun now and then. Already have a CG Summit Impact trap but been told I would be better with a lower rib. I average 18-20 kills in a Skeet line. Also, what chokes would you recommend for Skeet.Thank you.
I’ve shot skeet for years with a trap gun choked 1/2 and 3/4. Pretty much any sporter will make a fine skeet gun, chokes are whatever you are comfortable with.
@@richardgraham7133 pairs are either SIM pairs, where both are sent on the shooters call, or report pairs, where the second bird is sent on the sound of the gun or "report".
American skeet has 8 stations. The eighth station is in the middle of the course between the high and low house if you were to walk straight between the two houses. The shooting order is the same as English, except there is no double on station 4. Those two shots are taken on station 8. Also station 8 is two pads connected, on one side you shoot a high house then turn around and shoot a low house. If you finish the round without missing then your last shot (25th) is a low bird on station 8.
In Australia we shoot the American style with singles on station eight instead of the pair on station four. If a shooter is clean after shooting high eight he/she then shoots two low eights to finish. Skeet is generally shot from a gun up position but it is optional. I also shoot sporting which is shot gun down here so I prefer to shoot skeet the same way for consistency of gun mount.
What happened to Station 8? I America, we have 8 stations and therefore you don't shoot a pair at Station 4. Those 2 birds are shot at Station 8 which is center just behind the trap house. If you are prefect 24 at that point, you shoot low house again for bird 25.
If you know the ground and its quiet, sometimes they let you shoot station 8 for fun in practice. 😉
@@lloydyp Oh God, that's funny. Thank you!!!

Thanks for the Video Lloyd, a great insight on how to shoot skeet, I was at Byewell Yesterday and shoot my first skeet round and loved it.
Good shooting Lloyd , and your usual no nonsense video. 👍

The best explained and performed basic introduction to skeet video I've seen. Thank you yet again, Lloyd 👍

Great video Lloyd. Would you lead increase / decrease a lot as you move through the stands.
1-4 lead increases, 5-7 it decreases. How much depends on what method you shoot.
Nice to see. I knew english skeet is shot gun up, but am I correct in that there is no delay after the call, as there is in ISSF skeet ? As always an excellent video, easy to understand
Correct no delay, and there are no regs relating to mounted vs unmounted.
Do you say “mark” for the second bird? I can’t quite work it out. I always thought they were just on report🤷🏼♂️
I did, and no they are not on report. In ESK you call for every bird or pair.

Mark. For whatever reason the high bird and low bird are called with different words to differentiate the 2.

Excellent shooting. Not a skeet shooter but in the U.S. I believe they shoot one pair in the middle between the houses
Skeet 8, 2 singles. American layout does indeed have an extra station, and they don't shoot the simo pair on Skeet 4.

Nope.

Sporting shoot skeet, those that can’t shoot skeet shoot DTL.

Why are we watching you shoot and not the clays?
A little boring compared to Olympic Skeet. But fine for old people I guess 😉😎😇
