Leupold HD2 Thermal Tracker is much cheaper (got my for 650 bucks brand new) and in 60 bucks in mounting hardware, and adding 10 bucks for recoil dampening material. Outcome is helmet/weapon mountable monocular with great detection range and all for under $800.
The Armasight Q14-B 320 or 640 was way better in that it was essentially the same thing as a Breach but could also be mounted to a weapon with different reticles and could also have an external batter source. Sadly when Flir took over Armasight they discontinued the Q14-B models and made the Breach in the same casing!! Bad move on their part because the combination of being helmet mounted AND weapons mountable was the winning ticket...the Breach is cool and all but not weapons mountable cool like the Q14's! Flir needs to bring the Q14's back to the market! They were the go between for a heavy scope and a wearable / hand held Thermal optic! Armasight had it right and Flir is jacking it up!
Let's be honest.....FLIR has squandered a lot of the optics, benefits and technology that Armasight had. But think about how common it is for a Fortune 500 company to buy up a small competitor that is really making waves in the industry and then basically do nothing with the company. Sadly that's what we've seen from the Armasight buy out.
@@outdoorlegacy I agree! They are screwing us over the that merger! Don't get me wrong, it's a good Thermal but the Q14B 320 and 640 had better consumer options than the one Flir is putting out in its place! Give us back the helmet AND weapons mountable Thermal optic!!

Vey useful video - thankyou. What was the ambient temperature? Does Outdoor Alert work at the longest distance?
Michael P When those videos were shot the temps were in the low 60’s and the relative humidity was in the 70-80’s. I can’t specifically answer if Outdoor alert works at the longest distance because I didn’t test it that night but I can say that outdoor alert doesn’t pick up well at long distances on small animals, say 200+ yards away. To be quite honest, I use nothing but white hot/black hot because I find it most useful and the most natural. The other palettes are fun to play with but I personally see no real benefit. With that said, I have many customers who love outdoor alert and would disagree with me.ha! It really is a personal preference.
Hey, Thanks for the video. What is this like in comparing to NVG for navigation? Could you walk through woods using thermal like you could with nvg during the night (assuming nvg has optimal conditions)?
unclewillywow Great question. Officially FLIR says this unit should not be used for navigation. I agree with that because, while it is 1x (no magnification) thermal does not provide enough depth of field or definition of objects/obstacles etc to safely navigate with it. I know guys who are helmet mounting and taking some steps in wide open fields but even then it’s not advised to be walking and using it as your sole navigation aid. However, I walk around in fields in total darkness with no light or NV and that’s not extremely safe either.ha!

Hey mate,Good info - My lid setup is changing to gen 2+ NVG mono and this thermal unit using the bracket mount to use both.
I have a FLIR Scout TK. Not quite the same unit as seen here but similar. If has been a hot day then all the trees ect will give off heat after it has got dark so yes but most of the time here in the UK at least no you can't. I tried this once and ended up cutting my head open.

Does thermal scope have a limited life time like the regular night vision ?
Michael mike No sir a thermal core has the potential to last essentially “forever”. Also, unlike traditional night vision, thermal optics can be used during the daylight with no ill effects on the thermal core.

But the size of the flir ptq136 make me hesitate . And the price obviously ....
Michael mike Yes sir the XP38 is a great thermal rifle scope and it’s at a whole other level of image quality compared to this Breach. If your looking for a good and tiny handheld the Breach is a great choice but it won’t compare to the quality of the XP38 rifle scope but it’s almost half the price too.
So could u essentially use this as a plus 1 to say a elcan specter scope. with a quick detach. Infront. Would be a pritty sweet set up if the eye relf is done correctly. Or would this unit be more fragile to gun shocks

could you mount it onto a picatinny rail via a specialized mount ? can it be used behind or in front of an Eotech?
No sir. FLIR says it is not recoil rated and you will damage it by putting it on a rifle. Also, since it’s thermal you couldn’t put it behind the Eotech and see the crosshairs. But either way, I would not try it.
if you mount this to a rifle in front of your scope you can look right through this thing and still have a fantastic view and picture!! so..... my next question can it handle recoil? I need some rich dude to put it to the test? mount it to a 5.56 and shoot a couple 100 rounds and see if it breaks? thankyou!
Living_in_Oblivion Lol well I’m not sure if it helps but FLIR told us it is absolutely not rated for recoil and putting it on a firearm would definitely destroy it. So....you aren’t going to see me gambling that kind of money with those odds.haha

Hi, can flir breach be used for walking? As I can see it is helmet mounted?
No, it cannot be used for safely walking. You're looking at a black and white video display screen with no depth perception. I'm sure you can take a few steps with it but it is not designed for, nor is it safe to attempt to use it for navigation.

Kyle Cutrell Unfortunately no. It’s not weapon mountable and it’s not rated for recoil. It’s handheld and helmet mountable only. Thanks for the question.

Jus Ta No it will not work that way. Also it is not built to withstand recoil and would likely be damaged if mounted to a rifle.
How does the breach compare to the ASP MICRO 384?
Breach is a better all-around unit, it is helmet mountable and ghetto rigged to a pvs14 weapon mount in front of a red dot if you so choose. The 384 is a great handheld but helmet mounting it is horrible was never meant for alot of the applications that some put it into. Really depends what your looking for because the 384 is cheaper if your only hand helding it is absolutely the buy to make. A gen 3 white phosphor pvs14 mounted on a pano bridge with a breach is probably the best solution for the money over all for a fusion system. Will it compare to say a set of duals with an ecoti I am not sure but as a solution to get into a fusion system at around 4500-5000$ not bad

SUPAFREAK thanks for the questions. There is no shock rating for this device because it is not recoil rated since it’s not weapons mountable. The waterproof rating is fully submersible up to 3ft for 30 mins.

@@johntitor9817 Considering FLIR unexpectedly closed up their Outdoor Tactical Systems division and fired everyone 1 year ago and no longer makes or sells thermal scopes for consumers.....I'm going to go with probably not covered under warranty.lol Actually they are still making this particular unit I'm told but I wouldn't advise anyone buy it and while they are technically honoring warranties, current ETA for repairs is over 3 months. Everyone is always worried about the smaller companies going out of business but FLIR is a $2 Billion dollar Fortune 500 company and they exited the market with no warning on a Friday in January and left everyone standing around wondering what happened. Crazy.

Scott Schneider There have been no changes to the Breach since it was first made and we created this review. However in January 2020 FLIR suddenly quit selling their thermal scopes to hunters and restricted all weapon mounted devices to the military and law enforcement. They said they would continue to sell their handheld thermals to consumers but they’ve been so difficult to deal with and so unenthusiastic about it that most dealers including us, washed our hands of them. They for the most part shut down their end user support and the warranty dept seems to do nothing but replace defective items with refurbs without even attempting to repair the unit. At this point, FLIR has told hunters they don’t want our business so that pretty much ended their handheld sales with us as well. Very sad but that’s the way it is.

I have a Leupold LTO Tracker HD and yes, you CAN see the moon.
This or Scout III?
It totally depends on what you are looking for and also which Scout III you are considering; they range from $1,500 to $3,000 for the 640 model. I would chose the III 640 over this model because of the better image quality but I honestly wouldn't buy a Scout at all. I would spend that same money and get a Pulsar Helion with a better image quality, optical magnification, video recording, smart phone app and a removable/rechargeable battery. The Breach is a great unit because of its tiny size and weight and it definitely serves a purpose. But before I bought a Scout I'd spend a long time looking at the Helions, they are a much newer and better unit than the aging Scout product line.

Wacky TV Sorry, I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking... the Helions are handheld monoculars and the PTS736 is a riflescope.
@@outdoorlegacy You can use the PTS736 like a moncular but also get the benefit of mounting it to a rifle
@@jesussaves4989 Gotcha. Yes you could in theory but the PTS736 is huge with a 75mm objective lens and weighs over 2lbs, where as a the Helions weigh around 1lb and are made to be handheld. Not saying you can't use the PTS736 in your hand but it would be one of the most cumbersome scopes for that because of the objective lens and size.
Can this be mounted on a rifle?
No. It is not rated for recoil and can be damaged, there are no crosshairs and also no way to attach it to a rifle. I went the thermal route instead of NV. You cant hide from flir and you dont have to worry about a 5$ flashlight destroying 3000$ NVs to each thier own

For this price, the resolution is not good. I expected it to be 640. You can get a Pulsar Axion at the same resolution for much cheaper price
The least expensive 640 resolution Pulsar handheld is $3,799. The Pulsar Axion is a great little unit but it's not made to be helmet mounted and it also came out a year after this FLIR unit was released.
While I personally like the Axion much better for a handheld and I believe it's a better value, the Breach isn't really that over priced for it's size, weight and the fact it's made to be helmet mounted. The Breach was made with a main specific purpose and it serves that job well. Also, a lot of search and rescue crews prefer the Breach for handheld use since it requires (1) 123A battery rather than the rechargeable Pulsar battery. But at the end of the day, I like the Axion better as well, however, the guys who are helmet guys LOVE the Breach.

If you can not use a IR laser with the thermal it makes the PVS systems a better choice for helmet mounted, thermal spotting scopes are the way to go, not big on helmet mounting them , they would serve a great purpose for search and rescue for sure though. Not if you wanted to target hogs with a IR lasers

We don't have them here n nc piedmont but they r south of us. I don't think u guys will run out of them anytime soon. Got coyotes but they r hard to get even with thurmals and nv.
