- Just opened up my brand new Limited Edition Steam Deck OLED, this thing is amazing. So excited to start gaming on it!
Let me know in the comments what you think of the limited edition Steam deck OLED versus the regular Steam deck design or which one you prefer! For me, it’s definitely the limited edition. Always loved orange, and that paired with the smoke-gray it just looks incredible.

Just got my Steam Deck OLED ordered didn’t get the 1tb but still very excited.
Congratulations, that’s awesome!
And don’t worry about not getting the 1TB, you can always upgrade it to a 2TB later for around $150 from ifixit and can always use an SD card (or several SD cards if you want) instead so the storage isn’t as big an issue.
When did you order yours

I totally agree, the Steam Deck OLED is like the perfect current version of the Steam Deck (at least until the tech gets even better and they can upgrade it even more).

L.E looks very nice.. such a shame they didn't realise it in the uk. Although, it wouldn't be hard to replicate it.. a black transparent shell from extreme rate.. and some orange spray paint 😉
Yeah I totally agree. They did say it was a limited edition thing just to test the waters and see if people were actually interested in it, and I know it sold out within a short window of the launch so I'd imagine they saw enough demand to do more drops like that and probably across a larger amount of countries too.
Guess we'll see, but hopefully that's the case!

I know it didn’t break but is the screen super fragile or something?
Not any more fragile than any other glass screen. I put a screen protector on mine when I first got it over a year ago and it’s been completely fine, and I take it with me everywhere in my backpack.

I know, I definitely wish it was a bit more powerful, but at least for now with the OLED model I’m perfectly happy with it, and at least it gives me something to look forward to for future versions.
I never really thought that I would want the upgrade til I found out that it’s a few grams lighter. The OG deck feels like a PS4 Slim in my boney hands and I’m stuck with it now 😫😭
Oh for sure! I definitely cared more about the screen upgrades than the weight, but now that I have it and have been using it a lot, the lighter weight is definitely in my top 5 favorite things about the OLED model.

That’s fair, when I first opened my OLED and fired it up I was immediately kind of disappointed, like “wow it’s basically the same thing”, but after using it for a couple hours I definitely changed my mind and I’m still very happy with it (mainly the OLED screen and 90hz refresh rate was what got me).
It’s like the perfect/premium version of the Steam deck, just with the current chipset we have available, but I definitely will be right there with you getting the Steam deck 2 whenever that eventually does release.
I feel you, but Valve has indicated they don't plan on making a steam deck 2 for a long time. It's not worth waiting 2-3 years for the next possible version when you could be having a blast for the next 2 years with this steam deck. By waiting, you're spending time rather than money. If you have the funds right now, I say go for it. When the next one comes out, you can always sell this one or something. Or maybe you'll even love this one so much and just keep it
Yeah that’s a great point, I agree and that’s why I got the OLED version. It definitely has been an awesome upgrade in my opinion.
Since when does HDR improve battery life? Usually HDR, at least on TVs, is a huge power draw.
Great question! HDR doesn’t improve battery life, but OLED displays are significantly more power efficient than LCD displays, so that gives it the increased battery life (even with support for HDR).
It also gives it several other benefits such as 1) having a much better contrast rate than LCD, 2) being a much thinner design than LCD so it’s much better sized for use in smaller devices (which is partly why the OLED model could fit a bigger battery) and 3) supports always-on functionality. So all of those is why almost all phones now use OLED displays, at least at certain price points.
I had a gut feeling about 2 months back and was able to sell my steam deck for 550

How is it for gaming and what's the battery life like
It’s amazing for gaming and the battery life is great, seriously hours for sure, though more than 2-3 hours can get iffy if you’re playing a really graphically intense game, but I’ve never had it die on me so that’s something!
Honestly the only downside with it at all is that not every game works on it because of anti-cheat software and stuff (for example, Destiny 2 and Hunt Showdown both don’t work on it) and then sometimes (not every time) when games first release they aren’t super well optimized or don’t support Steam deck and they have to put out a software update to add support, so you can’t always preorder a game and just play it day 1.
But honestly the software updates they put out every month make the device better and better and better, and are always adding new features and functionality, so I’m sure some of the most annoying issues like those will be fixed at some point in the future!

Oh really? Interesting! Out of curiosity, why do you want to switch from the ROG Ally?
I prefer the Steam Deck as well (having not tried the ROG Ally yet) because I really like the Proton support and features that Steam has on the Deck vs other platforms, but I’m curious what your reasons are for wanting to switch.
@MTS4K I have used the rog ally for a while. And the battery is really bad. You can only play triple a titles for about an hour before having to recharge it. Even my old steam deck battery was better than that. Other than that, the rog is good. It's just the battery is very bad.
Ahh gotcha, that’s too bad, hopefully in the future they’ll come out with a new ally with a better battery.
But good luck selling your ROG Ally, hopefully you can get your steam deck or steam deck OLED soon!
@@MTS4Kwindows handhelds are terrible at battery. All those things running in the background drives the battery down.
@@emperorbraphomet ahh that totally makes sense. With all the years Window has being the premier gaming operating system, you’d think they’d put some effort into making their OS better for actually gaming (at least for platforms like this).

@@MTS4Kframes per second. The steam deck OLED is capable of 90hz refresh rate in games that are applicable.

Great question, actually not too much!
They just did a limited run of these official Steam Deck OLED models with see-through gray plastic for the whole device and then made some of the accents like the fan areas orange, but outside of that it’s basically exactly the same as a regular Steam Deck OLED, same storage and everything.
Legion go is still better
I’m definitely interested to try it out and see how it compares! They both definitely have their pros and cons compared to each other, but I’d definitely love to have some of the processing power and the bigger screen of the legion go.
