jestermike133 very true. I must admit I do workout with an i-pod but I do bust my tail at the gym. you don't see this type of environment at most gyms these days...Planet Fitness anyone? haha
Arnold is a shit talker. they used to have slack days. I've heard reports that sometimes they would all be in there just talking crap for hours. Arnold would never admit it though. those reports come from Ric Drasin. used to train with Arnold.
the sound of the 44lbs iron plates shaking is music to my ears. today most gyms have plastic coated plates people have headphones on while working dont talk to each other damn i miss the old days when every body friendly and helping each other in the gym.
Toyobusa And what's with the throwing down of weights after a lifting now days?? My daughter started doing this in our garage gym and i told her,if your here to workout then use your muscles to lay the bar/weights down, that is part of a workout,do not cheat yourself, also the guys that kick around dumbells with their feet to the spot where they will lift them..WTF..pick it up and carry it,it is called lifting for a reason!!
Tbh i find it quite annoying when random people start talking to me in the gym. Like im working out, not in a café seeking a conversation. I want to go in, work my ass off and go out.
JSDaniel 451 Not York, paramount. They are most certainly deep dish 45s you can see them in some of the side shots and they sound like them. Deep dish 45s sound entirely different than 100s. Earlier in the movie Franco is seen benching for reps with FOUR of these plates on each side. They are without doubt 100% 45 lb plates.
I still hear the "get serious" in my head when I think about leaving some reps on the table. 😄 Also love how he corrects the rack of the weights for him before seeing to his lifting partner. 😂
The most impressive part of this video isn't the squats, it's when Arnold casually re-racks around 150lbs worth of plates without even flinching right at the end hahaha
the way he talk to his partner- almost impatient, like "your weak, come on, I don't have time for this!" That must be how he talked to himself to achieve greatness
I had the honor of hanging out with Ed Corney in 1999 at a Jan Tana Booth in Arnold Classics. One of the most humble down the Earth people I've ever talked to. I was 21 and felt like I was talking about war stories with my Uncle. We talked about this scene. Really cool hearing the stories of the old days.
@@kurtvonfricken6829 he is pretty much my length and its indeed hard to go straight without a lot of ankle mobility. Weightlifting shoes are pretty much required
My favorite scene from the movie. I love how he collapses, I know the feeling and it's good to see bodybuilders hitting low squats til they're about to puke. Arnold killing it with the narrow stance 315s
I saw Ed Corney a few years ago at the Europa show in Dallas. He told me he has had a heart attack and stroke. I still remember him though like he was in the video. Another thing these guys actually would break parallel in the squat. I love that being a powerlifter.
When i was in 9th grade a classmate brought this movie into class. The teacher let us watch it, this scene is one of my fav's for over 40 yr's now. Been working out since i got my first weight set in 10th grade.Never looked back, been working out ever since. Thank you Arnold, Ed and Franco for setting my life on a trajectory of health and fitness....The golden age of bodybuilding will never be equaled,If i have to explain why then bodybuilding isn't your thing,,,,class dismissed
I did a similar thing. I had pumping iron on a bootleg vhs tape in the early 1980's. I used to play the last pose scene down between Arnold, Serge, and Lou full blast through the tv and i actually wore out that part of the vhs tape as i had played it so many times whilst i was in the bathroom. The funny thing is that i wasnt even watching it - i just like the music hence why i used to be blaring out through the tv whilst i was in the bathroom just listening to the music in that scene.
Yep. I just started that routine and It gets me super winded. I'm still breathing hard 10 minutes after finishing the 20 reps..good luck man...Hope you are still going strong.
@Fred Tedason Yeah steroids will make your legs grow easier for sure. However, all the bodybuilders in the 70's and 80's were on steroids too. However, only Tom Platz had Tom Platz's legs, nobody else. Nobody else even came close. What was the difference between him and the other guys that gave him such incredible leg development? Well it probably wasn't genetics, as can be seen if you look at his legs in his earlier lifting years. And it definitely wasn't just because of drugs, because his legs are arguably better than any bodybuilder's since, despite the fact that modern bodybuilder's are now on ludicrous amounts of drugs and of a much larger variety than compared to the 70's and 80's. So the conclusion we can draw is that it must have been due to his training style, and more importantly, the utterly insane amount of training intensity that very few people on Earth can probably match.
i lifted all thru high school without doing deadlifts and squats, i started lifting 2 months ago and i do deadlifts and squats now. no one should work out without dead lifting and squats. you just feel raw power walking around during the day time when you do real lifting.
Lmao, so true.. And they're never doing 5 sets of free weight squats.. Either they're sitting on a bicep preacher curl machine or doing endless cable work while looking in the mirror.. Modern gyms today are a joke!
ITs because he had a very long femur, and yet he wanted to squat narrow, it is IMPOSSIBLE to go deeper , he would need to lean so much foward it would look atrocious, and he was barefoot, not even using olly shoes at that time.
Your right Arnold was not even going parallel ,he used to go Deep Ass to the grass when he was younger . Look at pics of him training with Dave Draper he was all the way down which of course Builds Mass all over your Body and is a Natural Testosterone Booster
+Bryan Barnes yes it is said that compound movements increase testosterone levels. I.e. Bench press, deadlifts, squats, even military press and back exercises. But I don't think squatting ass to grass will increase the benefits any more than just below parallel
Wrong. Ass-to-grass is much more effective because it is the natural sitting position of humans. Half squats put too much tension on the hips and knees.
im gonna do legs tomm, just came here to watch arnold do them and its pumping me up and motivating me to do legs bigtime... I cant wait till tomm. Thanks Arnold!
Too true, Arnold wouldn't even be considered that big by today's standards. He basically used just a little bit of test and dianabol, not a huge cycle.
The best day is when you work on your legs, because you need basically workout but very strong: front squat, back squat, Deadlift, Romanian Deadlift, leg curls, lunges.
Deadlifts should NOT incorporate the legs unless you're testing out how strong you're becoming and they are NOT a leg builder because you only get 1/4 to 1/2 of a squat out of them. Keep them for the day that you work your back
