You could tell he loved Lou. Even the guy asking him about Lou, he expected him to be real competitive or have a competitive answer but Arnold wanted a nice message back to Lou. Most of the later scenes are with Lou and Lou’s family.
Lou was initially casted as the villain for Pumping Iron but it was not working out because of Lou's underdog background and nice guy personality, so Arnie stepped up to take the arrogant pseudo-villain role to make the movie dynamic and dramatic as the original idea intended, even if for his career being the good guy would have been a better fit. Like him or hate him, you can't deny Arnold is a very remarkable man. He is one of those people who can say he really has seen it all, done it all. Self made millionaire, one of the greatest bodybuilding champions of all time and helped bring lifting weights for exercise into the mainstream, at one time one of the biggest names in Hollywood, built his own political brand and achieved national office. His only real mistake in life was not being able to keep it in his pants.

Same with winning 7 Mr. Olympias and same with becoming governor of California. Each one independently is a one in millions thing. The odds of a single person accomplishing everything arnold did is one in many billions
These times during the 70s seem to had been very nice when people had no social media, smartphones, etc, and yet, they were able to gather with friends and enjoy great meaningful conversations. Never knew he quoted it around Lou Ferrigno.
You could tell he loved Lou. Even the guy asking him about Lou, he expected him to be real competitive or have a competitive answer but Arnold wanted a nice message back to Lou. Most of the later scenes are with Lou and Lou’s family.
Yeah, Lou and Arnold were friends irl. There's a few pictures of them together
This made the audience root for Lou as the underdog good guy challenging the arrogant champion. Arnold was ready to put the success of the movie and his respect for Lou before his own acting career interests in this case, and it paid off.
